Great to hear a comparison of P90 equipped guitars. I've always been a P90 fan and started to look for a P90 equipped guitar back in 2015. Not having deep pockets, I had my eye on an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top but at the time Epiphone had stopped making them and I couldn't find a secondhand one for love nor money. Then out of the blue I went into a local guitar shop to buy some strings for my Strat and there on the wall was an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top. Trying to conceal my amazement, I casually asked the owner how much he wanted for it. He said the list price was 500€ but that as it had been hanging on the wall for five years and no-one had shown any interest in it, he'd let me have it for 350€. He even threw in a gig bag. I got it home, cleaned it up, oiled the fretboard and put on a new set of strings and it came alive. The neck pickup is sweet and warm and the bridge pickup has plenty of growl and screams through a Blues Driver. An absolute bargain!
I had a 56 pro and it was amazing. I only sold it to pay for my Gibson LP special tribute with P90s. The neck on the 56 was huge but the sound was amazing. You got a great guitar there. I’d say my epiphone was slightly more bassy overall and mellow and the Gibson has a fraction more bite and clarity. My next purchase will be a R4 one day.
Just picked up a Reverend Charger 290 from a guy, locally. He raved about the guitar and I feel the vibe on it so far. Great playing instrument. Looking forward to trying a few others here you have covered! Great video!
Jack could play a Marlin Sidewinder that had been half buried in a ditch since the late 80’s and make it sound incredible. Absolute beast of a player 🔥
Absolutely agree. I think when they think budget, it’s in the sub-$1k range (or the pound equivalent). I would’ve loved to see the 2020 TV yellow Epi LP Special in there, too.
Well, that Rivolta is well over $1k, and the Pacifica looks to be sub $500? Quite a spread. Probably left the Epi out because the LP was already covered by the Gibson (or maybe he didn’t have an Epi in stock?).
I own a Reverend guitar and it’s an awesome playing guitar and that roasted maple neck is butter. IMO It’s the best guitar with the most features for your money. A very underrated guitar, definitely recommend people to take a minute and give them a try.
Awesome vid, Jack. Personally, I had a Gibson Soapbar P90 Neck Pickup installed in my LP Standard. I left the Humbucker Bridge as is. It has 3 distinct tones now, my fav is middle, cuz the 2 different pickups have an out of phase sound together.

Definitely stealing that riff at 8:56
Ooooooh Matron that Rivolta is not revolting.
I’d dare say, these aren’t budget guitars
Agreed.
What prices roughly are these?

@@jamesoli89 only 2 out of the 5 are over £1000. None of the others are above £900, with the Revered and especially the Yamaha being quite a lot cheaper than that. But I agree they’re not budget... I’d describe them as mid range, in some cases lower mid range.
P90's FOREVER!!!
Turns out I’m a crappy player, so on the basis that "if you can’t play, build", I’m going on a guitar building course to make my own instrument. I’m going to put P90s in it.
Lp special tribute's neck is maple
"budget"?! what? had no idea just how relative that word was until now 🤔

What am I a joke to you?
Disappointed by the Fender, blown away by the Reverend
Budget? Well, that's not what I would define as budget guitars, but nice video anyways.
In my limited and humble opinion....P90 is the best pick up ever....
If the Fender Offset Tele has Jazzmaster pickups, they are very different from P90s, in both building and sound.
No it doesn’t.
