    I’m so stoked to have found this channel. Something that goes through the HOW of building. Bought to binge this whole video backlog.

      Thanks for the kind words! I hope you find some of what I've put together here useful!

    I've been converting my central Texas outdoor 'dive bar' into a tiki bar for past few months and just came across your channel. Looks like a wealth of information on materials and techniques although you're a much more patient and Zenlike builder than I. Fortunately, tiki forgives and when I make a construction mistake, I don't necessarily have to fix it. I can make it look worse and it becomes a feature, not a bug! I'll be bingeing the rest of your episodes soonest! Aloha and mahalo!

      Glad to be of assistance, David! Remember that progress, no matter how incremental, is still progress. It adds up more quickly than you might think. I've chronicled my build since day one on one of those old-fashioned blogs. If that interests you, you may find it at this URL: jlbgibberish.blogspot.com/search/label/build-along

    Just found you and will be starting the journey. This is the first time I found a Tiki build video that doesn't make me hate my life because the builds are too over the top for my budget. I have not skipped ahead in episodes, but suspect that this series will be great for my budget.

      Glad to be an enabler, Glenn! There are some budgetary issues that can't be avoided, but I'm not someone who can drop $5,000 on my build at a time. The great thing I've discovered about tiki is that incremental progress really *is* progress, and adds up quickly over time.

    I’m dying at how much you’re calling David out! You guys had a stellar episode of Marooned: A Texas Tiki Podcast. Aloha from FamineTiki. I have one of my tiki builds up here on my channel, my tiki horror skull build!

      David's awesome! We've been trying to do a follow-up episode for something like a year now and just can't get our schedules to match up. But we will! Maybe it'll be a swapcast thing, because I'm lazy and content takes effort!

    This was very informative, I planted giant bamboo 3 years ago before I got swept away with the tiki movement and it is finally setting huge poles, however, I love them so much I can't cull them...this is awesome to note for when I do find them in the wild...COOL...!

      It's my understanding that bamboo culms, on average, have a 5 year-lifespan. This may vary with species, but their existence is finite. If you look at it that way, you need to harvest to prevent dead culms from becoming a problem. :-)

    Do carving next!

    • @LagoonofMystery
      @LagoonofMystery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carving's on the agenda, if you consider power carving (Dremel, router) actual carving. I'm still trying to figure out the whole chisel-and-gouges thing, so that may be a while.

      @@LagoonofMystery I guess I was specifically talking about using a router for trim. It's a simple thing to do but I guess a lot of people would not know where to start. Once you get the hang of it you can do large lengths and really make a difference to the bar!

    • @LagoonofMystery

      @@leevigraham5559 Oh, yes. I have a trim project I'll be starting in a couple of weeks. Rest assured that will be in an upcoming episode!
