Nice repottng session! I'm also not the biggest fan of wooden chopsticks for Bonsai, so I'm using metal chopsticks 😃(or the other side of my root rake) It's also nice to see you working on a Gingko again. I hope it'll grow well and stay healthy!
Nice job Nigel you got lucky with all of these beautiful trees and the roots being so much nicer than some of the other trees that you have worked on in the past. Great video keep that green thumb thriving.😊
I've been watching you for years and finally really started posting on my own channel (thanks to you) - hopefully my channel does well like yours over the next few years!
Great show Nigel! Sometimes it's nice to have a few good roots! You just happened to have them all on the same video LOL I love watching little trees develop.
Hello, Nigel! By this video you remind me to take a closer look to my fir roots. It was a long time of add new soil to bottom only. Some years has passed i should say. Like
I favor the Catalpa tree. Mine has withstood the tuff winter weather outside in the microclimate. Mine was grown from seed also from my nieces friend when I was given it in a pot. A super cool tree.
You stuffed a lot of trees into this video, much to my enjoyment! The greenhouse really extends re-potting season on the front end, which gives you more styling time as the trees develop in summer. Excellent video.
That Redwood will grow like crazy this year with so much new space :D And this Yew is just perfect little tree! Ow, and by the way Nigel, few videos back I notised that your french lilak is probably also starting vegetation.
Great repots! I have a very similar gingko that I recently repotted that looks to be maybe just a year or so older than this one. I was scared that I root pruned it to hard, but after seeing what you took off here I feel much better. I think all your trees will be much happier in their new soil!
i got a nice little female hicksi yew last fall. waiting on the cold weather to break. having no green house to protect them i do most repots in late spring just to be safe. always great work nigel. thank you!
20:28 To confirm this. In knitting wooden needles are for folk who prefer more grip, and metal needles are for people who prefer more speed and movement.
There is a few things to say about this. I think I have seen something like 6 different Catalpa starting videos on this channel. I haven't seen an update yet on any of thme. Then there is the yew. It is almost sad that it has pollen cones. The tree has pollen and seeds on separate plants. the little red barries add a nice touch. Then there is the ginko. I was excited at first as I remember you had a larger ginko you were working with. All at once about two years ago, there was nothing more said about it. Do you still have that tree?
This is a tale of not being successful. All my Catalpa trees have died so far. I think the heated glass greenhouse will help them out in the future. The Yew also slowly died over the summer after digging it up. I took too many of the roots off on that one. The larger Gingko got attacked by borers. It had about 10 tiny holes with sawdust coming out and the tree died quickly after. I try to keep all the trees alive, but sometimes you just have to keep trying and learning!
Hey Nigel what do u do with ur used bonsai soil ? Like the on from the ginko tree .. may i please know how u processed that soil with all the weeds or when u have some roots in the soil ?
I always learn something
Really great work and very easy to follow description 🎉🎉

Nice repot of the catalpa and redwood. Cool yew. The weeds love your potting mix for the Gingko. Nice little tree.
...and the difference is yew!
@@t3dwards13 Excellent!!!
@@t3dwards13 What a difference a day makes. Now I have the song stuck in my head.
Great work as usual :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Your videos like a fresh air in the morning!!!
I often use my paintbrush handles instead of a chopstick. I have thick ones and thin ones, and the handles are lacquered and smooth
A busy day for you potting all these trees. They are off to a nice spring start.

Sounds great Tom!
Great video Nigel, a true inspiration to me.
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks Steve, it's nice to get these little trees repotted finally!

55 degrees F here...I missed the live because I was out hiking trails...❤
Nice Dave, keep on hiking!!
Nigel, you are so informative . At first, I was afraid of my root trimming ; but now I’m seeing happier trees
Hey there Nigel!

@@TheBonsaiZone thanks! I’m hoping for some branching this year! 😁

The Yew reminds me of that Rush Hour 3 scene, "Who are you?" "Yew." "No, not me, you" "Yes, I am Yew."
👍👌👌
Howdy. At some point would you talk about air pockets when repotting? You seem to take a more relaxed, but judicious, approach. Thank you.
1:58 so that's how those cheap ramens are made xD look at that pack of noodle
Lol!!

Yes I understand that one well. I myself have killed many a tree.@@TheBonsaiZone

If i remember correctly, Nigel just ads it to their compost pile.
P. S. One more question: why no larvae today? Have theses trees had a very different environment or are their roots less desirable? Thank you.
I'm not sure, maybe because they didn't have moss on the surface of the soil?
Foist
i'm second?
Wouldn't no major root work be unlucky for you? Lol
Feb 2025?
Whoops! Thanks I fixed it!!!!
Not foist
I wish I had your luck for roots. My roots over the last couple of trees I've worked on haven't been the best 🫣 but we work with what we have 😁
Thanks!!!!
