Great reaction. Tuomas is a true musical and lyrical genius who takes you on an emotional journey. He could have no better voice for his words than Floor. I love how Floor just effortlessly shows that she is simply not human on a resgular basis.

Annette's best song with Nightwish is: "Meadows of Heaven". Unfortunately, not any real good live performances, (couple poor fan cams). But good to watch a video that has on screen lyrics to follow along better. Couple good ones put up by YT folks.
Thank you for great reactions to Nightwish! To be honest forget about the other former singers. They both are two divas who forgot about the band and only want it for themself. Stick with Floor who sings better and are loyal to the band. There is so much left for you to discover with Floor as leadsinger, there are more harmonising, more ueilian bagpipes and you still havn´t come to the two big great songs "Poet and the pendelum" ( read up on the backstory and use lyrics to the video) live from Wembley and "The greatest show on earth" live at Tampere. Tuomas's lyrics are sometimes rather intricate but this one is one of the best to understand his thought. The "dead boy" is the adult who has lost his/her innocence, among other things. As for Anette, only some streams because she was much better at studio. One of the best ballads. If you should play Anette songs from Nightwish, then only studio versions, please. Please not the live performances. She doesn't sound really good live. To run away actually. However, after assessing all 3 singers, one advantage is that you can appreciate Floors variability even more. Tarya only knows opera, but that is extremely good. Good choices. I would add (also Anette): ‘Meadows of Heaven’ and ‘Scaretale’. But beside those female vocalists I would also recommend Marko: ‘The Islander’ and ‘High Hopes’. Also Troy: ‘Harvest’ and ‘Kiss When Your Lips Are Still Red’.
Like 'The Poet and the Pendulum', 'Dead Boy's Poem' are means in which Tuomas processed his damaged emotions as a result of everything related to the break between NW and their 1st female vocalist by writing it off. While the 1st song was build in 5 parts conform the five stages of grief, this song speaks of forgiveness and resignation. He can look back on it without blame and on again. Love again. I think this song is about Tuomas (as figurehead of Nightwish before, during, and after the break with Tarja in 2005) who is abused, or at least misunderstood (by almost every Tarja fan and even the mayor of their hometown). He never had anyone to talk to (a shoulder to cry on, he’s the whore of the cold world), so he puts all his thoughts and feelings down in song. The song becomes his best friend, and he puts all his strength into it, so it can give him the strength he needs to get through life. The song shows all the parts of his soul. Eventually, he tries to make his life better, but no matter what he does, he could never get back to the childlike innocence he and Tarja used to have before the break. So he tries to learn and he reaches for wisdom (see also the meaning of ‘Ghost River’ you have to go through struggles of life to reach the other side of adulthood, cross that river) but things are just too much, and the right choice unclear. He is not infallible, isn’t God. And he says that people shouldn't sigh and wish for a better world, because the world's song, with all its different parts, has already been written and done. He is doing much the same thing, only for himself (and the band’s future). During the spoken part (in quotation marks), he tells people not to remember "him", the silent, misunderstood boy, but the song that as his (and Nightwish) soul. Deep down, he wants to be loved, to sit on his mother's lap and feel his heart has a home. He could live forever in that. But instead, he wrote his life and soul on the piano. Since he can't get his wish, and can't fix the problems in (between Tarja and the band) life and the (the outside) world, he has no passion for anything. He cares about the world, and people, but feels he is wasting air since he has no love, no passion, and nothing to give. He is like the ocean -- necessary but often abused and misunderstood, and terribly, terribly lonely. In ‘The Poet and the Pendulum) he musically (literally) kills himself, was giving up, in ‘Dead Boy’s Poem’ he rises from the dead again.
This song was written when Tarja was still in the band. Tarja sings this too. Tuomas has said it's about what he would like to say to his friends and family if he died today.
Dead Boy's Poem was written with Tarja in the band, the original studio recorded song is with Tarja singing and is not related in any way to the break up of the band.
One of my favourites Mat & Chels. @Tarmo Tyyri - a brilliant job of encapsulating exactly what this song is about, I have always seen it as Tuomas' self-written epitaph/obituary. Do remember, Tuomas is speaking of himself whenever the terms, boy, poet, writer or dreamer occur. Tarmo Tyyr can put me right if needed as ISTR that in Finnish folk culture it is the swans that carry you off to the afterlife and with the boy also in the back-drop, this makes sense to me. You might also look at The Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius. I find the impressive orchestral and band section with Floor standing arms out to be a very powerful musically reinforced image.

As for previous singer recommendations, tarja doesn't I don't think perform as well live as Floor, so anything recorded will sound good - different but good. Annette-- if I'm being honest, don't bother, she sounds dreadful live, recorded -barely passable. Floor just is the peak of their performance
I don't get the purpose of reaction videos like this I guess. You play the song, tell us you liked the last high note and give the song a score of 10 (maybe hoping the NW army will appreciate it?). It is a masterpiece with deep meaning but I expect a reaction to give some perspective on what is happening.
OMG. You asked us to pick a former singer. You just heard the best out of the best. It's all personal and a matter of taste, I suppose. Tarja is a fantastic operatic singer, but more one dimensional and a less storytelling. Anette is more poppy and IMHO not so good in live concerts. More a studio singer. Floor's got it all, a storytelling singer, versatile and she embodies the sings.... Always a nice reaction!

Thank you for great reactions to Nightwish! To be honest forget about the other former singers. They both are two divas who forgot about the band and only want it for themself. Stick with Floor who sings better and are loyal to the band. There is so much left for you to discover with Floor as leadsinger, there are more harmonising, more ueilian bagpipes and you still havn´t come to the two big great songs "Poet and the pendelum" ( read up on the backstory and use lyrics to the video) live from Wembley and "The greatest show on earth" live at Tampere. Tuomas's lyrics are sometimes rather intricate but this one is one of the best to understand his thought. The "dead boy" is the adult who has lost his/her innocence, among other things. If you should play Anette songs from Nightwish, then only studio versions, please. Please not the live performances. She doesn't sound really good live. To run away actually. However, after assessing all 3 singers, one advantage is that you can appreciate Floors variability even more. Tarya only knows opera, but that is extremely good. Anette has a pop voice, if you want to speak of a voice at all.

Like 'The Poet and the Pendulum', 'Dead Boy's Poem' are means in which Tuomas processed his damaged emotions as a result of everything related to the break between NW and their 1st female vocalist by writing it off.
While the 1st song was build in 5 parts conform the five stages of grief, this song speaks of forgiveness and resignation. He can look back on it without blame and on again. Love again.
I think this song is about Tuomas (as figurehead of Nightwish before, during, and after the break with Tarja in 2005) who is abused, or at least misunderstood (by almost every Tarja fan and even the mayor of their hometown). He never had anyone to talk to (a shoulder to cry on, he’s the whore of the cold world), so he puts all his thoughts and feelings down in song. The song becomes his best friend, and he puts all his strength into it, so it can give him the strength he needs to get through life. The song shows all the parts of his soul. Eventually, he tries to make his life better, but no matter what he does, he could never get back to the childlike innocence he and Tarja used to have before the break. So he tries to learn and he reaches for wisdom (see also the meaning of ‘Ghost River’ you have to go through struggles of life to reach the other side of adulthood, cross that river) but things are just too much, and the right choice unclear. He is not infallible, isn’t God. And he says that people shouldn't sigh and wish for a better world, because the world's song, with all its different parts, has already been written and done. He is doing much the same thing, only for himself (and the band’s future). During the spoken part (in quotation marks), he tells people not to remember "him", the silent, misunderstood boy, but the song that as his (and Nightwish) soul. Deep down, he wants to be loved, to sit on his mother's lap and feel his heart has a home. He could live forever in that. But instead, he wrote his life and soul on the piano. Since he can't get his wish, and can't fix the problems in (between Tarja and the band) life and the (the outside) world, he has no passion for anything. He cares about the world, and people, but feels he is wasting air since he has no love, no passion, and nothing to give. He is like the ocean -- necessary but often abused and misunderstood, and terribly, terribly lonely. In ‘The Poet and the Pendulum) he musically (literally) kills himself, was giving up, in ‘Dead Boy’s Poem’ he rises from the dead again.

This song was written when Tarja was still in the band. Tarja sings this too. Tuomas has said it's about what he would like to say to his friends and family if he died today.
Dead Boy's Poem was written with Tarja in the band, the original studio recorded song is with Tarja singing and is not related in any way to the break up of the band.

- a brilliant job of encapsulating exactly what this song is about, I have always seen it as Tuomas' self-written epitaph/obituary. Do remember, Tuomas is speaking of himself whenever the terms, boy, poet, writer or dreamer occur. Tarmo Tyyr can put me right if needed as ISTR that in Finnish folk culture it is the swans that carry you off to the afterlife and with the boy also in the back-drop, this makes sense to me. You might also look at The Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius.
I find the impressive orchestral and band section with Floor standing arms out to be a very powerful musically reinforced image.
I really like Tarja singing Gethsemene back in the day when they were so young. Bye Bye Beautiful by Annete (Official video) is entertaining. Love you guys reactions.

Yeah, another great Nightwish song, with deep lyrics. A great performance by Floor, but I think on this one Tarja is even better. Not wanting to start a Tarja v Floor battle; they are both great with different styles of song.

As for previous singer recommendations, tarja doesn't I don't think perform as well live as Floor, so anything recorded will sound good - different but good. Annette-- if I'm being honest, don't bother, she sounds dreadful live, recorded -barely passable. Floor just is the peak of their performance
I don't get the purpose of reaction videos like this I guess. You play the song, tell us you liked the last high note and give the song a score of 10 (maybe hoping the NW army will appreciate it?). It is a masterpiece with deep meaning but I expect a reaction to give some perspective on what is happening.

OMG. You asked us to pick a former singer. You just heard the best out of the best. It's all personal and a matter of taste, I suppose. Tarja is a fantastic operatic singer, but more one dimensional and a less storytelling. Anette is more poppy and IMHO not so good in live concerts. More a studio singer. Floor's got it all, a storytelling singer, versatile and she embodies the sings.... Always a nice reaction!
