I remember that game being totally unbalanced in general. Characters having either pathetic defense and godly offense or vice versa with not much in between.
When it comes to Yuna, after she learns the same spells as Lulu, the latter is very much relegated to never used, this is because Yuna's magic capacity is far superior to Lulu's in every way possible, and considering the fact that she has summons, there is zero chance of Lulu ever competing.
They all end up being relatively the same (outside of overdrives and unique actions like summoning, swimming, and built in range attacks) at the end with Yuna being the only character worth a damn outside of Rikku, Tidus, and Wakka.
About Alakazam The reason why he us so strong is because Psychic type is incredibly overpowered in gen 1 It's pm have no weaknesses (Ghost type is bugged due to oversight, and it have no effect instead of being super effective and Bug type have no good moves, except maybe Pin Misale on Jolteon, which still sucks) This was somewhat balanced in Gen 2 by adding Steel which resist Psychic and Dark with complete immunity to it Also the Special stat being both special attack and special defence being one stat isn't an oversight (they dis split them in Gen 2 tho) Also crits it's that useful, since in Gen one crits ingore both yours and your enemy stat buffs Also i advise you to watch some gen 1 speedrunes vids You can learn a lot aboit the game this way and it's pretty interesting

6:45 It isn't the Magus Sisters who have the highest damage attack, it is Mindy (one of the sisters). The Delta Attack only hits 6 times, whereas Mindy's Passado hits 15 times. That is more hits than any other attack in the game.

I think Aht from Radiant Historia had some insane things and insane damage output if you play her right with the other team members. I think without her I wouldn't be able to do something funny like one shotting the final boss's last phase in 1 turn
Two honorable mentions from the tactical rpg side, Calculators from Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea Mages. Calcs take awhile to unlock, but can insta kill entire maps when setup. Disgaea mages can be reborn to the point where they're lvl 1 with every high level spell unlocked and an absurd magic stat. Getting a mage going early in Disgaea makes the game ezpz.
Saturn is scarier than Pluto. Saturn's power is she can kill anything if she is willing to die and be reincarnated. Yes, Sailor Saturn could have single handedly killed Thanos.
Honorable mention: Rydia from Final Fantasy 4. A mage who can cast any level of black magic and summon Bahamut? Yeah, broken. She and Yuna would be besties.
One mage I found broken was the sprite from Secret of Mana. When recruited, he's next to useless. But once you start learning magic by finding the elemental spirits, that's when he becomes a walking nuclear bomb. And the strength of the spells aren't only determined by the level of the character. The more you use them, the stronger they become.
I took an interest in Mages in the 16 bit era. Phantasy Star 4: End of the Millenium Rune from the moment he shows up, he is powerful and he really never stops being that way
Okay, couple of things you got wrong about Fina from Skies of Arcadia; her special moves are supportive, yes, but in terms of magic, everyone can learn the same spells and all supportive spells don't rely on a stat for effectiveness. So everyone can be a support in terms of spell casting, but Fina stands apart from her special moves being head and shoulders higher than the rest, due to moves like Lunar Light. MP cost is low because all spells cost one MP; however, special moves require none. There's a third resource, SP or spirit points, which is shared among the party. Fina is also the most powerful spell caster; so she's far more than a support.
I'd say Zerase from Suikoden V is a good contender too. Her default Star rune is amazing combined with her high magic and ability to absorb MP by attacking. She also has two free rune slots in addition to the Star.
Not even an honorable mention for Terra from FFVI? Her ability to transform to Esper form makes her an absolute powerhouse, even before you start giving her good equipment.
There are two other things about Melia that actually make her broken: First is that while physical damage accuracy is dependent on level differences (meaning you'll completely whiff physical hits on enemies that are more than 5 levels higher than you, and vice versa), ether attacks do not have that drawback--they will always hit. And the other thing is that all of her attacks do damage over time, the damage stacks, and it's also compounded with gems and her "Burst Mode" (which is a super mode that builds up over time). If you set her up right, you can kill superbosses in literal seconds with just one use of her attacks.
Bleu/Deis is broken because her stat growth table uses the first enemy formation table in the game's code since there are only eight stat growth tables in the game for the main characters and Bleu is the ninth character. Bleu uses Nina's equipment as well. It explain why the stat growth increases are huge even after reaching level 50 when the rest of the characters begin to wane. Bleu/Deis was likely an extremely late addition when Breath Of Fire 2 was in development.
And the best part is that _you don't even have to get to Alakazam to make the game a cakewalk_, even the base form Abra can already lay waste to almost anything that isn't Psychic type (or a Chansey!) the second you can get a hold of special moves via TMs
Honorable mention: Meru from Legend of the Dragoon. Highest speed stat combined with high magic Stat and some of the best spells in the game (best healing spell easily) makes her handily the most broken character in the game
Ill always love when Rita is mentioned. I was also delightfully pleased with number 1! I wont say who it is so that people can watch but I LOVE that game and how crazy that character is!
Ah Melia. Few things are more satisfying than Chain Attacking a superboss once, unequipping, and watching that gigantic health bar just melt away like it's nothing.

I just stocked up on a ton of those colognes or perfumes or whatever in the area they dropped a lot and used it every turn. I know it's a legendary, but I still think Mew is the most broken in Red and Blue with how early you can catch it even before getting the second gym badge.
Sad thing is Alakazam was busted till gen 4 with its coverage as the elemental punches were special till then and even with the special split it retained a high special attack.
Grubb from _Septerra Core_ is also broken af. He is faster than pretty much every enemy in the game and is your 2nd fastest party member. Once you get more spell cards, he can wipe whole groups of trash before they move. To make it even better, he has the highest single-target damage output against robotic enemies and bosses. Robots were a sizable portion of enemies in the last 35% or so of the game.
