Or keep cold weather gear on board. My old wj jeep grand timing chain slipped while coming home from snowboarding and tow truck took 40min to show up. I ended up putting all my snowboard gear on to stay warm because the engine would not turn over. I had more problems with x4 jeeps with less miles and zero problems with the ridgeline with double the miles. Ridgeline got stuck once because i high centered, jeeps have gotten stuck on numerous occasions without being high centered. Open diff on jeep are crap like in this video. I also have the low tire indicator on, it goes off after some highway miles. I also have that hum or squealing sound with the initial start up. I love my truck, I have driven her through 3 feet of snow during a snow storm - great truck.

Alaskan here, hello southern neighbor. How does it do going up steep inclines that are snow covered? Can you put a winch on the bumper?
Where I live in a very mountainous area with hills that are a thousand feet up and down, so a winch and recovery hooks are critical, especially if you don't want to end up as a meal for the local wildlife if you get stranded in -55f weather. Often I find myself pulling other drivers out of ditches on sharp inclines, a locking dif with a 4wd low transfer case seems to help a lot, along with a heavy duty winch, that has to be mounted to a steel bumper of course.
Anywho, just curious as to your thoughts on this.
Also driving over boulders on the highway in spring is very common here due to earthquake(we have 52 active volcanoes) and spring thaw landslides, plus all the road calving that happens as the permafrost recedes in springtime, so I was also curious on your thoughts on ground clearance.
I currently have a 2012 Suzuki RMZ 4, with all the offroad bells and whistles, plus the steel bumper(aftermarket) with the heavy duty winch, tow hooks, and moose lights, but its getting old, and was looking at upgrading.
The Taco is uncomfy to drive, it is very capable, but is smaller than my truck with very little cargo or bed capacity. The latest GM trucks are built poorly and you have to pay a subscription to use the glitchy dashboard. Ford Rangers just do not drive well but are bigger, but I don't feel safe in them. I don't want a big truck, so I was looking at the Ridgeline.
If you read that, sorry for the long message, I just have some serious specs I need covered. Thanks and have an awesome day.

I bought my 2019 Ridgeline AWD RTL-T for the tri-zone climate control at the back seats, since I have three kids back there. I also selected it for the largest in-class cabin, which makes long distance traveling very comfortable. When I buy mulch and compost in bulk, the landscaping company uses a 1.5 cubic yard bucket to dump diagonally and all of the product fills evenly without spillover (oversized short bed). I use the in-bed trunk for routine groceries, Costco, Sam’s Club, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Pike Nursery, and etc... I missed out on the longer door stops (back doors), paddle shifters, wireless cell charger, and 9-speed transmission for 2020. I wish the Elite Edition trim was available as seen on Pilot and Passport. After traveling a lot with a bed-cover, the side-panel lamps are too far forward to illuminate the in-bed trunk (while bed cover is fastened). An over the bed lamp would be nice (brake lamp only). An auto-locking dampened tailgate would be nice (only trunk auto-locks). I bought the $360 lockable tailgate upgrade. An in-trunk lamp under mounted in the lid would be nice, shining into the trunk space. An upgrade option for a full-sized spare would be nice. This vehicle meets or exceeds all of my needs. I attempted to buy the Colorado on a 90+ F degree day, but the lack of tri-zone climate control in the back seat was unbearable. I looked into the Gladiator (tri-zone climate control worked great), but couldn’t justify paying $20k more (basically Rubicon) to achieve the same trim-level features (leather and infotainment) that’s already on the Ridgeline RTL-T. The Gladiator’s gas-line into the bed space is horrifyingly inefficient and looks unpleasant (needs to be behind the tire-well like Wrangler). Swing-arm spare on gate is needed to complete the Gladiator (like the Wrangler). I’m too tall for the Tacoma and my kids complained of freezing in their uncle’s Tacoma during winter (no tri-zone climate control available). The Ranger seemed too pricey and impractical for the available options and cheaply designed interior.

Daniel, thanks for the updated comparisons! It verified everything I've been seeing so far. I've been considering replacing our 2nd car for a bit and would like something practical like a mid-size pickup. Everything I see points toward the RL as being the best choice with apples-to-apples comparisons. It cracks me up when I hear people say the RL is more expensive than the others, but when the comparisons are made with equal perks involved, the Honda comes out on top every time. And THEN there's that in-bed trunk!!!

Mark Johnson with COVID-19 affecting sales, Honda Finance has some exceptional 0 down with 0.9% and 1.9% financing options. My advice is to wait on late September to early December for Honda to move their 2020 Ridgeline inventory with specials to make room for the 2021 Ridgeline release. By then, pricing will drop enough on the 2020 models to purchase a better equipped model, like the RTL-E or Black Edition, for the same pricing that you’d pay now for a Sport or RTL. The RTL-E will gain you a much larger 8” touch screen with Android Auto & Apple Car Play. The RTL-E also gains you the 400 watt power receptacle in the back bed and the tailgating speakers inside the back bed. RTL-E also has the seat warmers and exterior defrost on the side mirrors and rear window. After I added the Tonneau cover (solid tri-folding panels), I occasionally hit 30MPG on the freeway and the locking tailgate upgrade is a must to really get the most out of the bed cover. The Tonneau has four latches (one in each corner) that internally disconnect for easy removal and two quick connect straps that keep it folded for storage until your ready to cover the back bed again. Tell Honda you want to keep the old tie downs as spares, the Tonneau cover replaces these with a modified tie down and liner brackets combined as one component.

The RL is perfect for most people, they just won't admit it. They'd rather have the huge, macho, "I'm a badass!" kind of truck. And this latest RL is so nice on every level. My RTL-E is quieter, smoother and has more tech than my wife's 2014 Lexus GS. I normally trade vehicles every few years but I imagine that I will keep this truck 10+ years.

I have been in -20 degree weather there and even the vehicles there with Arctic seals and fluids can have difficulty starting in that cold weather. So, I have a 2020 Ridgeline, and love it. ONly been in 10 degree weather and a snow storm with about 6-10 inches of snow and the Ridgeline did flawless. Only issue was a frozen part of a road on a slight hill where i had to stop while a stuck vehicle was pulled out. But, a quick yank with another truck got me off the ice.

This would have been the truck I would have gotten if I had not had plans on doing a lot of off-roading with the family on camping trips.
Having 4Low, a locking T-case, and locking rear differential, and a much higher cooling capacity for the transmission/and T-case was pretty important to me. At least the T-case on my 18' Chevy Colorado actually unlocks when in "Auto" mode and I can make tight turns on dry pavement without binding the transmission (4WD is actually engaged though). So it acts like an AWD when in that mode.
However, I like the functionality of the Honda bed a lot more! These Hondas are some pretty cool little trucks.

I'm not sure if this will work, but try Sand Mode. It puts more power to the rear, less to the front and gives a more sensitive throttle. I think it's actually designed for playing on the beach, so it should be good for playing in the snow. If I was on a sandy beach and worried about getting stuck I would probably select Snow Mode. I really think Sand Mode is setup to play and to not kick in the traction control as much as you slip in and out of sandy ruts.
I wish there was an in-depth video of someone that has owned a Ridgeline for a while and understands all the traction settings and how they behave in different conditions. Most videos are 'test drive channels' and they only drive the truck for a few days and never read the owner's manual.

Also we count snow depth in feet, not uncommon to get several hundred inches of snow throughout the winter. I wonder how it would work out here up steep mountain passes that have several feet of snow on them. 🤔

You seem pretty new to driving in snow because you were so surprised that simply backing out along your own tire tracks after stopping at the front edge of that deep spot was all that was necessary to get "unstuck". You were not even close to being stuck there, and in fresh snow on as cold day as that, I would have been shocked if you could have found a way to get stuck in a place like that. Have you noticed how "crunchy" the snow feels and sounds under your tires at that temperature and how excellent the grip of your tires is when it's that cold compared to traction on a warmer day? I have been driving in the upper Midwest with small trucks with rear-wheel drive since the mid 1970s, and none of the snow you drove through for this video would worry me very much in a two-wheel-drive truck that has a bit of weight in the back. I greatly appreciate what four-wheel drive or AWD can do in snow, but nowadays where hardly anyone learns how to get the most from two-wheel drive, they tend to think that the conditions they get through with 4wd or AWD are much worse than they really are.
Oh, and I agree with the other commenters that any modern vehicle SHOULD start just fine at that temperature. Decades ago, there were a lot of cars for which you had to learn unique idiosyncrasies of the vehicle before you could start it reliably at such temperatures (but even back then, some cars just started right up no matter how cold it got), but nowadays the car's computer does all the thinking for you.

Eric, you'll notice that there was a slight cut at that point in the video. Indeed I was stuck for a good few mins before I inched out slowly. Yes not used to driving in deep snow like that, first time for everything.
The point of these videos is to showcase what the Ridgeline can do first hand. I didn't test out any of the things I did ahead of time. So of course there will be hiccups along the way.

Hey, I have the Ridgeline and my pussy has the Odyssey lol at 6:49min both has the same engine tuned differently....
It seems like Honda can't shake the Odyssey...it is great for business as well as family and we many times used it as a pick up truck to move furniture and other stuff and also as a camper... yes the Odyssey as a camper, just remove the middle seats put a full size inflatable mattress in and still room for a cooler and bags, so much that can be done with it to say the least. The Ridgeline I'm finding to be more of a "go getter" Driver pickup. It drives and handles great even at high speeds and many terrains. Remainds me of my 2008 Acura MDX which I also LOVED.
I average 22.8 mpg in eco mode 70% of the time. I have done over 446 miles avg 26.2 mpg in eco mode... YES! 26 mpg. in New England January weather with the heater on at 75*F. Love my 2019 Ridgeline Now over 2k miles.

Great video! You almost got stuck but that Ridge did its job. What do you think of the New Ranger? I know its body on frame but what are your thoughts about it vs. your Ridgeline. I’m going to be purchasing soon and I’m torn between the Ridgeline and the Ranger Lariat.. I don’t tow I just need a vehicle for trips to homedepot and recycling center on occasion. Also, the Ranger is available now and I read the new 2020 Ridgeline is going to have a refresh but what exactly no one knows and it may not be released until late 2019, I’d like to purchase by March-April. Do I purchase a 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E now a 2019 Ranger Lariat or wait for the 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E. Do you know anything about the 2020 Ridgeline or release date etc? I’d like your input and anyone else who’d like to chime in. I got to say your videos make me want a Ridgeline, especially when you did your rear door mod. I didn’t like how little the rear door opened.. I’d also like to add I’m in my early 50’s coming from an F150 and wanting to settle down to something smaller and comfortable. Thanks you for making these videos, keep making them.

Thanks, I will! I would love to test out the new Ranger especially the raptor version. I think the Ridgeline is going to force the other manufacturers to make bigger midsize trucks. Ridgeline is vastly bigger than a Tacoma or Colorado and make better for people with families without stepping up to a full-size truck. I'm going to make a video about the 5 things i dislike about the Ridgeline in the near future.

I’m just wondering what the 2020 Ridgeline is going to look like and when it will be released.. I’m guessing few of your five dislikes are no stereo volume control, back door doesn’t open wide enough, low ground clearance, no e locker and curious what else.. i did read about some with bad panel fitment too.. The 1 thing Honda needs to do with these trucks. More ground clearance. Also the big thing. Put a timing chain in them. I will just stick with my 2015 Toyota Tacoma trd, rear locker. 4x4. Best track ever. Not knocking your truck. Just Honda needs to put timing chain's not belts.

Same with the wife's Acura with the 3.7 V6. Sorry to here about your oil burning problem but this engine has been a reliable mainstay for Honda for a very long time. Both cruise controls work perfectly. I know several people whose vehicles have these engines and I have not heard of any problems. In fact, when Saturn was still produced by GM you could order a Honda 3.5 liter for the Saturn SUV. It was a sought after selling feature because Honda has always been known as a top notch engine manufacturer. Honda 3.5 litre engines have been a mainstay in formula one racing for years (I'm not sure if it's the same 3.5 litre engine as in their cars trucks and mini vans).
