    He's always nailed that SRV Texas style blues.

    when he first came out, he played with with 12's. Just like when Stevie at first played 13's. When Renee Martinez started being Stevie's tech, he switched Stevie to 11's because his hands were getting chewed up.

    It's so funny every time I hear him riffing around he always seems to play something out of "While We Cry" which just so happens to be in my opinion one of the best guitar instrumentals ever. Every guitarist has that Idol guitarist that just does it for them and he is definitely mine. When I hear him play I'm constantly thinking damn it why didn't I think of that LOL

    Have mercy! Who can complain about that demo and his playing? Strings sound great ... But, I want to know what the dickens he was playing through. That's a great sounding amp.

      What I was thinking... tone for days!!! kept hoping they'd pan over to it... sure was sweet though...

      +Tonetwisters If you know what to look for here, you'll see the fraud straight up. The Cobalts are grey blue in color. Different than the others. Now, look at KW's strings close as you can and you will notice that only the six is a Cobalt. Really. I actually did that too. I strung up my 6 and left Slinkys on the other five. The appearance difference is totally noticable. So, it really looks like he's playing with just the 6 being the cobalt. Just look.

      Guessing one of his stage blackface fenders.most are modified by Dumble. maybe through a tube screamer or just the amp cranked.

    He clearly meant to say 48 and not 58 on the low E . That would be a 5 gauge jump from the standard 48-50's that are on the Cobalt Power Slinkys. Great tone though and definitely nice and heavy & punchy. Love em and plan and switching from GHS from here on out.

    These strings feel "weird", like Steve Vai said. But I quickly decided how much I like them. Maybe it's just because a change from the norm is more interesting. But, I don't think they are better OR worse, just different from regular strings. After compensating for the different tone of these strings on your amp, and adjusting playing style (attack, touch dynamics), I think they sound very rich, warm and alive.

    My notes (especially high notes) have an issue with sustaining the sound, will these strings help improve this?

    • @vanillebudding
      @vanillebudding 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe... But your guitar should be able to sustain without these strings. Maybe it's because of your guitar(wood)? Old strings? Bad amp?

    is it a myth or is true about the cobalt strings can get bended easier than other strings? If that is true then you could use the cobalt on the plain upper strings

  • @HarrisonIsBeatles

    Maybe he did mean 58... Some guitarists play custom gauges, some make there own custom gauges. Not everybody plays stock gauges given to us... It's called "experimentation".

    I kinda dont agree. And ill be honest i play the blues very similar style to what kws does. But i do not like these strings. He has enough money to change them everyday. They dont last if played everyday and especially not for more than one gig. They feel like rust the next day and are dead.

      If you like his playing then you should listen to his cd’s. A good proportion of his songs do not really sound like srv at all. Although I love srv’s tunes and style, I think kenny does so much more with adding so much more by bringing in a tone of variety. Blues, rock, country, and more. Here in this video he only showcased a tiny bit of his style. Later ;-)

      completely agree. For a fender they lack top end definition compressing the sound to metallic rattle and woolly punch. Sure they are easy to play but it comes at the cost of string tension and consequently relevant highs, which, no you can't just compensate for with some stupid eq device. I really think they would be better suited for buckers, if what you are looking for is punch, sustain and easy bending, but if you've got a good single coil guitar which deserves proper definition in and of itself, fuck the cobalts. I've been a happy ernie ball player for years, they are real dynamic and live strings, but those dynamics already come with a loss of high end tightness. I love that acoustic feel they have, but for a singing long note tha does not drop off I'd go with the GHS actually. Recent discovery. They don't have those dynamics, but they sure cut and sing. Cobalts - if you are mostly doing humbucker, low resistance, metal type playing, favouring ease of movement and sustain over tone I guess they are fine. I have a real instrument and I don't like them,
