I met the guy twice....He was super-cool, generous, with his time, and extremely humble on both occasions. Not to mention he is one hell of an amazing guitar player. I Would love to see a Dregs reunion tour!
I used Blue Steel's as well, but Cobalts are my favs. Before that, I mostly used Super Slinky 9s or 10s, and Blue Steels were a backup brand, like D'Addario. Cobalts are the best strings I've ever used. They feel as great as they sound, stay in tune better, and I haven't broken one yet.
I have a set on my strat and after I got use to the feel I think they are a keeper!! Now I need to change over my PRS and check out how they sound on it!!
@BOOLsheet no i dont, i was pointing out the flaw in one comment that said steve was a clone of petrucci, petrucci is one of my fav guitarist and I was pointing out that he had strong influence from steve. So really i think that the two are completley different but some of their playing (stacatto runs.....) is similiar
I guess I’m late to the Colbalt party. I just could’nt see spending 10 bucks for a set of strings. But I decided to give them a try. They sure sounded awesome! But I hated the feel. They caused a bit of finger drag for me and they felt very rough. I’ve heard Petrucci say they feel like butter. I didn’t feel that at all. Quite the opposite. But man, did they sound good! Now if they only made a string that sounds and responds like these but felt smoother like nickel plated steel or pure nickel.
EB just try to copy that coating, but the fact is, its sucks hard... They are at the same price, and Eb lasts for about 2-3 weeks for me till it completly dies, and the Elixir (only the POLYWEB, the nanoweb sucks too) last for months, and it still has that bright ringig, like a new set of strings.
They once had Jordon Ruddess ( from Dream Theater ) fill in for T Lavitz back in 1998. DT is not doing anything next year. . .so Steve ( HINT HINT, WINK WINK ). . .new Dregs tour, maybe?????
Mr. Morse is really good player, but I never liked his guitar sounds. These strings didn´t make him sound any better. I think these strings is just a lousy gimmick that don´t work. Thats my opinion, so don´t get angry.
No, I haven´t. but I just watched and listened that and couple other videos and I dont´hear anything that make me believe that those strings are any better. Maybe they lasts longer. I must try them, but I´m so lousy player that these strings surely are gonna sound as bad as every other strings.
I don't know which albums you've heard of Steve's, but I don't think I've ever heard a bad guitar tone from him. His tones on the Dixie Dregs and Steve Morse Band album's are fantastic imo.
Okay! I have not heard much Dixie Dregs or Steve Morse Band songs. What i have heard is Deep Purple and that´s what i don´t like. And as i said, i don´t like his sounds, but it is only my opinion.
lapinmaki Yeah his Deep Purple material is on the weaker side of his discography. If you're interested I'd suggest you listen to the Dixie Dregs album "What If." Definitely worth your time.

Mr. Morse you can play with rusty old cloth hangar wires and still sound like a God!
I've been using Blue Steel strings for many years, I recently bought some of the Cobalt strings and I'm very impressed.

I use em and there aint no goin back.. period. these are the best strings ever made
Is it just me or is Steve starting to resemble Dr. Johnny Fever (WRRK in Cincinnati)? It must be his shades.

Hamilton OH - Seems to be a grand endorsement. I will try a set.

Lol, the "Upside-down Shocker," pick technique.
What does he play at 2:09? is that a deep purple song? Thanks
Nice harmonics!
Does Ernie Ball make a coated string like Elixirs that last a long time and ward off rust?
EB just try to copy that coating, but the fact is, its sucks hard...

Maybe it's your guitar...? Ever though of that? A shitty guitar is going to sound like shit no matter what strings you put on it...
