jim james is amazing. wtf? all of them are great musicians. i saw monsters of folk, and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen. i really got a feel of how much all of them love music and how great of friends they are, and it wouldn't have been as awesome minus mr. james.
@cmw92ster I've heard it, it goes really high and he can sustain, but it is very nasally. I know conor's voice is nasally as well, but conor sings with such emotion. If i was to pick the best musically correct voice, I would choose m. ward. Ward can hit the very highs and the very lows, he can sing soft and he can sing loud.
you can download a sweet little program that extract mp3's from youtube footage. type "youube to mp3" in google about a billion of these free (very small and safe) programmes exist. they are useful as you can get the new conor oberst project "the mystic valley band" as the live recordings are up. and they will probably never be released. x
@johnmorisi8 respect your opinion, but have you heard Jim James voice? I'm sorry but no one in MoF tops it. I like Conor's voice the best, but Jim James has the best voice of the supergroup, and one of the best voices of today.
I've been searching for this video everywhere, I saw it months ago and loved it, it's such a great version of this song. Is it available in mp3 anywhere?
@bboy10g jim james in MOF and his band is my morning jacket, i dont think the music he writes really fits with m ward and bright eyes... mogis is the balding guy who produces bright eyes' albums and plays multiple instruments, he doesnt do vocals though in MOF though. and devonk does have a good point, it wouldnt be MOF without him.... but it would be a better band in my opinion.
i saw MOF also, n i have the album, i just know whenever he'd have a long solo song id go to the bathroom. or on the CD when its his song i skip it, i just dont like him haha. sorry.
I'm not going to lie, I think this version is terrible. It loses the rawness and sensitivity of the original. Too upbeat to be melancholy, and the switching vocals only makes the song lose the feeling of a confession of emotions. The only decent part in this song is the verse about his brother.
look at how stoked conor is to hear ward sing his shit
Hearing M’s voice begin the song is beyond.
They make me pure.
Come make me pure.
i’ll forever miss this version of conor
Aw, look at that big wide grin on Oberst at the beginning :D
Long Live Mogis!
When Matt comes in with “one more potential lover” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Only way to explain this version... The Cassadaga Era
this remind anyone of bob dylans highway 61 revisited?
I am pretty sure that i will never ever see anything cooler then what i just. i want this rendition to play inside my head for the rest of my life :)
This is such a cool version

While this version is great, I like the whiny emo version. It makes both feel sad and accompanied.
fucking insane! conor oberst and m ward! WOW
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
it's kind of a weird version but i like it :) Thanks for sharing :)

It's actually always been more Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis.
m ward and conor and mogis are great together... i wish jim james wasnt there =\
I prefer the album version. This kind threw me off, it's so different
I have this whole show if anyone wants it.
Please
Me!
Do you still have it
The whole internet wants it. Bring it!
Seconded.
That's just what happens when you party and jam in the same night.
I like this version a lot, but I think it lacks the cozy, "guy spills his heart out on guitar" vibe I loved from the original.

Better than the original!
really? I guess I could see that.
You kiddin' me? You can't stage that stuff :D
my voice is no deeper
13 years later and he’s still doing this bullshit Americana

Original is better.
But this one ain't bad either.
the original version is better for sure. the violin and m. ward ruined the song, i think.
I don't like this version at all... I like all of these musicians very much though...
Two depressed narcissists tend to have a hard time making music tougher lol
