I just saw Bright Eyes last weekend in Detroit and it was the best show I've been to in so long. I was in awe basically the whole time because I used to be such a fan, Conor was like a God to me lol. I had low expectations because I know my favorite albums came out in the late 90s/ early 2000s but I was so blown away. I loved every single song and I couldn't stop clapping or smiling. It was even better I was with there with my younger sister who is just as big a fan as I am. We both had tears. He's just a rockstar and I can't even put into words what it was like to see him this many years later with such enthusiasm and just true love of the music. I've been listening to their discography ever since the show. It used to make me sad but now it just makes me so happy and nostalgic and hopeful, too.
oh my fucking god. that was the best thing I've ever seen. Seriously, seeing Conor sing that live gave me shivers and made me shed some tears. The words are so powerful, and the saddest part about it is that it's so fucking true. I love how there's an American Flag in the background too.
I remember this tour in Asheville NC. Looks similar to the venue but hard to tell. Definitely was their final song and got my heart going so quick. Just saw them this past week and he’s still amazing but DID NOT play this song, very disappointing.
Here we go Can I get a goddamn timpani roll To start this goddamn song? Tonight Here's a goddamn song For all you goddamn people Well, the animals laugh from the dark of the wilderness A baby cries hard in an apartment complex As I pass in a car buried under the influence The city is driving me out of my mind I've seen a child, he's caught in the sad trap of gravity He falls from the lowest branch of the apple tree And lands in the grass and weeps for his dignity Next time he will not aim so high Yeah, next time neither will I Now a mother takes loans out, sends her kids off to colleges Her family is reduced to names on a shopping list While a coroner kneels beneath a great wooden crucifix He knows there's worse things than being alone And so I've learned to retreat at the first sign of danger I mean why wait around if it's just to surrender? And ambition, I've found, can lead only to failure I do not read the reviews No, I am not singing for you Well, I stood dropping a coin into the pit of a well And I would throw my whole billfold if I thought it would help With all these wishes I make, I should buy something real At least a telephone call home Well, my teachers, they built this retaining wall of memory All those multiple choices I answered so quickly And got my grades back and forgot just as easily But at least I got an A And so I don't have them to blame Well, I should stop pointing fingers Reserve my judgment of all those public action figures The cowboy presidents So loud behind the bullhorn, so proud they can't admit When they've made a mistake While poison ink spews from a speechwriter's pen He knows he don't have to say it so it It don't bother him Honesty, accuracy is just popular opinion And the approval rating is high And so someone's gonna die Well, ABC, NBC, CBS - bullshit They give us fact or fiction, I guess an even split And each new act of war is tonight's entertainment We're still the pawns in their game As they take eye for an eye Until no one can see We must stumble blindly forth repeating history Well, I guess we all fit into your slogan on that fast food marquee Red blooded, white skinned, oh and the blues Oh and the blues, I got the blues, that's me! (That's me!) That's me! Woah! I awoke in relief My sheets and tubes were all tangled Weak from whiskey and pills in a Chicago hospital And my father was there in a chair by the window Staring so far away I tried talking, just whispered "So sorry, so selfish" He stopped me and said, "Child, I love you regardless There is nothing you could do that would ever change this I'm not angry, it happens... But you just can't do it again" So now I try to keep up I've been exchanging my currency While a million objects pass through my periphery Now I'm rubbing my eyes 'Cause they're starting to bother me I've been staring too long at the screen But where was it when I first heard That sweet sound of humility? It came to my ears in the goddamn loveliest melody How grateful I was then, to be part of the mystery To love and to be loved Let's just hope that is enough
was this in buffalo? if so i saw this and it was incredible falling out of love at this volume and june on the west coast were 2 other highlights of this show
Actually, it's not mine. I found it on youtube some time ago but the owner had a link for downloading it. I just can't remember whose is it. And now i can't find it here...so ..:)
While this was on the same tour with Feist and Magic Numbers in October or November 2005, it's not the Athens show. That performance of Let's Not Shit Ourselves is already on TH-cam (watch?v=vsph_vAFj-M and watch?v=vK29UxzK6jg), and it doesn't match this video.
this has to be my all time favorite song because no other song can sum up life and conor can always suprise me. love this dude.
Zx
Love how when he performs live, he yells more, sounds even more amazing.

I would give up 3 limbs to see him live.

you so right
What a great performance! The energy is crazy!
best band ever. wish i was there. best song...best ending...best exit...Mogis is boss. Conor is Conor. nothing else comes close at all.
For real. True 10 years ago and true today.
lyrics about "tonight's entertainment" make me think of the "televised war" in Land Locked Blues
Can I get a goddamn timpani roll? To start this God damn song? Tonight is the NIGHT
This makes me cry joyful sorrowful tears in 2020
Same though
"Yeahh there's one over there and over there, yeahh I see you, thats me"
Bright eyes, next century legend
I think this has surpassed Lua as my favourite Bright Eyes song
this is my all time favorite song ever!!!! but not alot of people like it tho
An extraordinary performance.
Mike kicks ass... His backing is essential and kick ass all around.

Now THATS how to entertain a crowd haha
The way the security guy pats him on the back at the end, like he was saying “You’re pretty fucked up. Good job though”
oh my... at 6:53. when he’s pointing at the crowd a few times and then ends it with “that’s me, that’s fucking me.” the chills i got from that...
Amazing capture. Audio is especially stellar...Thanks!
my rockstar... so good
Here we go
Can I get a goddamn timpani roll
To start this goddamn song?
Tonight
Here's a goddamn song
For all you goddamn people
Well, the animals laugh from the dark of the wilderness
A baby cries hard in an apartment complex
As I pass in a car buried under the influence
The city is driving me out of my mind
I've seen a child, he's caught in the sad trap of gravity
He falls from the lowest branch of the apple tree
And lands in the grass and weeps for his dignity
Next time he will not aim so high
Yeah, next time neither will I
Now a mother takes loans out, sends her kids off to colleges
Her family is reduced to names on a shopping list
While a coroner kneels beneath a great wooden crucifix
He knows there's worse things than being alone
And so I've learned to retreat at the first sign of danger
I mean why wait around if it's just to surrender?
And ambition, I've found, can lead only to failure
I do not read the reviews
No, I am not singing for you
Well, I stood dropping a coin into the pit of a well
And I would throw my whole billfold if I thought it would help
With all these wishes I make, I should buy something real
At least a telephone call home
Well, my teachers, they built this retaining wall of memory
All those multiple choices I answered so quickly
And got my grades back and forgot just as easily
But at least I got an A
And so I don't have them to blame
Well, I should stop pointing fingers
Reserve my judgment of all those public action figures
The cowboy presidents
So loud behind the bullhorn, so proud they can't admit
When they've made a mistake
While poison ink spews from a speechwriter's pen
He knows he don't have to say it so it
It don't bother him
Honesty, accuracy is just popular opinion
And the approval rating is high
And so someone's gonna die
Well, ABC, NBC, CBS - bullshit
They give us fact or fiction, I guess an even split
And each new act of war is tonight's entertainment
We're still the pawns in their game
As they take eye for an eye
Until no one can see
We must stumble blindly forth repeating history
Well, I guess we all fit into your slogan on that fast food marquee
Red blooded, white skinned, oh and the blues
Oh and the blues, I got the blues, that's me!
(That's me!)
That's me! Woah!
I awoke in relief
My sheets and tubes were all tangled
Weak from whiskey and pills in a Chicago hospital
And my father was there in a chair by the window
Staring so far away
I tried talking, just whispered
"So sorry, so selfish"
He stopped me and said, "Child, I love you regardless
There is nothing you could do that would ever change this
I'm not angry, it happens...
But you just can't do it again"

While a million objects pass through my periphery
Now I'm rubbing my eyes

God, why would anyone dislike this video?
I really hope I get to hear him play this live one day

The one and only time I quoted this song was when my dad drank too much juice and shit himself 😂 😂
