Hmmm the broader issue would be the islamification of Britain as well as Europe. The fact that they had threats of violence, racial abuse, vandalism, break ins etc says it all.

In India, a year ago similar demand to allow burkha by Muslim female students within school premise was made into Religious Discrimination Issue by BBC and so many other western channels. Now that similar scenarios are being played out in Western Countries, the stance of media has changed. My presonal view, Katharine herself is probably a third generation of Sikh/Hindu origin migrant, she has adopted to British values and practices her ancestors beliefs outside the school premise. Then the specific group of parents should also be inspired to leave their religious practices outside the school gates.

Ms Birbalsingh is of Caribbean origin from both parents. Her father is from Guyana and in Guyana we are Hindus, Muslims, Christians etc and there is no religious animosity. And in the school system, it's the same way. Ms Birbalsingh 's school is like the normal Caribbean school where there are Hindu, Muslim and Christian who are not very conscious of religious difference. Old Birbalsingh was married to a Muslim and he was the father of Katherine's father; but then inter-faith marriages among Indians is usual since they think of themselves as a racial group and not a religious group. The kind of school KB is running resembles the usual Caribbean school.

Disagree. Those advocating allowing Islam to be practiced in this school are not wrong because of their religious convictions, they are wrong because this school is a secular school with excellent academic credentials that parents have presumably until now been quite happy to accept the ethos of because their kids are getting a damn good education. What we have here is just one more example of a clash of cultures which is now going to be settled in our courts. If this goes against the school I think its teachers should just all resign including the head and take their values elsewhere. They certainly shouldn’t just accept it and be forced to abandon their values. I think if they did this the political heat would switch to those causing all the damn fuss.

She is exactly what you would want in a teacher who is teaching your children. its all about school, reading, writing, science, math, history. Its about learning how to get along with others who are different from you in views, culture, religion and language. This teacher needs to be applauded for her work, not taken to court over a religious issue that has no standing in a secular school...

I mean come on be real. They first of all go and clean them selves with water. And if you watch them pray all they do is bow down to God pray for 5mins and that's it. Based on what she's said, she's got a fair argument under that she defines the school as secular and honestly it's about time a lawyer pushes the line "if we can have religious schools tailored to one religion, then equally we should be able to have secular schools which don't have to enable the practice of religion"
At the end of the day it's not all about religious groups, the UK has a growing non religious community who are tired of their children's learning being impacted through the actions of extremist followers within religious groups. As an adult, you don't get to stomp your feet and pout to get what you want, as the headmistress points out - they know what they signed up for, if they don't like it then maybe it's not the school for them.

No one is forcing them to Islam. They are doing this of their own accord. Perhaps they have used fine reasoning and judgement to understand that it is God’s true religion and wish to become one of the righteous. Educate yourself first.
No one will force you to be Muslim if you don’t want to. If you want to know a religion that truly doesn’t tolerate you (assuming you are Christian) look to Judaism. But you perhaps support the Israel state while they laugh and mock you.

Wherever they are in minority they will demand their way due to their belief system: Dar al-Harb means 'house of war' and refers to the dominion of war around the world. Generally, it refers to any place that Islam cannot be practiced without persecution. It also refers to a country that is not under Islamic rule and is thus not amenable to the majority of its inhabitants practicing Islam.

As said in this video, there is no ban on prayer at this school, they just don't provide payer rooms. The media are making this worse by reporting it as a ban on prayer which it clearly isn't and the parents were well aware that prayer rooms are not available. This should be a none issue but it's Islam so every minor transgression is framed as hatred and oppression.

I was saddened to hear that children are being intimidated to follow strict Islamic rules against their wishes and it clearly is not making a happy school environment. Interesting that when the school population was 30% muslim the school functioned well, when it reached 50% the cracks started to appear. Maybe certain Muslim families joined with the intention of changing the rules to suit themselves?

My gay friend went into teaching, one in a school in Bradford and another in a school in London. He was harassed by the Muslim students for being gay and was eventually sacked from both posts for trying to promote love and acceptance towards gay people as a British value; which it is by the way. If that isn’t intimidation, I don’t know what is. Stick to your guns, don’t let them push you over.
Edit: there seems to be a lot of angry replies to this, so let me just clarify something that I didn’t in the original comment.
My friend was not actively pushing his homosexuality onto students. He was simply gay, and what is wrong with that? The students of a certain faith did not agree with his homosexuality, and were harassing him for it. As part of the British values, we, as teachers, have to ensure that we promote mutual respect and tolerance to those from all backgrounds. This includes members of the LGBTQ community. If a student, teacher or parent is found to be speaking or acting in an aggressive or potentially violent way we must challenge those views. He simply challenged the views of a student who didn’t believe with homosexuality. My friend complained to the school and Board of Governors, but they took the pupils side without any thorough investigation and as a result, was removed from his post. So other words, he was actively discriminated against for being gay, which is against the law under the equality act 2010 as homosexuality is part of the nine protected characteristics.
I agree with everyone that teachers should not be pushing their own sexualities onto students, but why does that mean that somebody else can actively be hateful towards somebody else and make them feel unsafe? Whose rights trump those of others? I understand this is a grey area that is being explored, will be it not in the most productive way.
He was a fantastic teacher who will be a loss to the educational community.
FURTHER EDIT: good grief, this is getting out of hand so this is the last I have to say on this.
There seems to be a lot of intolerance towards homosexuality here and that seems quite concerning. If you think it’s okay for someone to be pushed out of their role or harassed by students for being gay that is awful. I do not know the ins and outs of how the students knew he was gay, but as his friend for a very long time, I can tell you, it would be quite easy to make that assumption. Regardless of that key point, if you honestly think that it’s acceptable to be pushed out of a post for abhorrent behaviour, then perhaps you need to take a closer look at yourself.
If you want to know what really goes on in schools, I suggest you take the opportunity to look at some OFSTED reports. When I go into schools to inspect, I have read some absolute shockers! One school in particular asked the inspectors to not discuss openly elements of protected classes such as homosexuality, and other religions because it didn’t align with their ‘ethos’ but if you know anything about OFSTED themselves, or the law, you will realise that failing to action these key points can lead to an educational institute being sanctioned, or even worse, shutdown. There’s an Islamic faith school in a town called Saviletown with a terrible inspection report from a few years ago. I implore all of you to read that and let me know if you agree with their ethos towards gay people.

KEEP TEACHERS PRIVATE LIFE OUT OF SCHOOLS.

    • @GreatWhiteSharkey
      @GreatWhiteSharkey ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@richardshortall5987 hi Richard. You seem to have misinterpreted my comment there. One of the 4/5 British values is mutual respect and tolerance, to add more context to my story, my friend wasn’t promoting his sexuality or pushing it onto his students. He was challenging those learners who were speaking poorly of people from a certain demographic. As a teacher myself, we are instructed to ensure that we adhere to, promote and challenge comments that go against the fundamental British values. Homosexuality falls under the nine-protected characteristics and thus is a protected class, so if any student is being aggressive, hateful or violent towards that class, be it a student or a teacher, it is perfectly within their right to challenge that mindset. Hope that clears things up somewhat. So on this occasion, the school was very very wrong in their decision to have him removed. He actually could have taken legal action against them, but was too afraid to do so.
I will add to this comment that I do agree with you in some respect. I don’t agree with certain radical left indoctrinations with regards to the LGBTQIA plus community such as pushing their own agenda, or openly, pushing their own sexuality on students, but he was simply being him. Regardless, it’s within our values to promote mutual respect and tolerance.
