Their parents, Florin and Nineta, are both immigrants to the US. Both were born in Romania. Florin (not sure about Nineta) lived in Transylvania, not far from Dracula's castle. Hence the band name Liliac, "Bat" in Romanian. Florin is a record producer and the children grew up around music. This video is from the weekly busking sessions on the pier at Santa Monica, over a seven year period.
One small correction Darien to your excellent information is that the parents are from Transylvania, the region where Vlad the Impaler had a castle. Dracula is a fictional character, so of course there is no Dracula's castle. Otherwise, excellent info. Oh, and yes mom is from that general area as well, though a different town than dad. Peace.

They drastically play up that aspect of their parents in order to sell more records. I'm not saying that's a bad idea, but it is irritating for those of us who know better (like my Romanian wife, for example, who knows they're just doing that for money). Done on the pier at Santa Monica, Ca. They were 18, 17, 15(lead singer) 10 and 9 and played this pier several years before touring. Liliac covers are CRAZY good! Their originals are fantastic too! Mars and Dancing in the Dark are personal favorites! Metallica, Enter The Sandman, Dio, Holy Diver, Joan Jett, I Hate Myself, Megadeth, Symphony of Destruction are among my favorites of their covers, but they are excellent! So much talent in one family! Melody, the singer has a nick name given to her by RJD's drummer, Vinnie Appice, Melodio, high praise, indeed!

OK, I'm back watching this for the third time. (and subscribing) I LOVE your excitement while watching and listening to them. This was the first video I saw of them 3 years ago, and I was excited too. The next one I watched was "Enter Sandman", and I was completely hooked. Since that time they have done nothing less than improve. Sam, the lead guitarist, (and oldest at 22) does a great guitar solo before they get in to their original "Mars". Abigail (Abi, 21, not even a year younger than Sam) is ALWAYS smiling while playing, except when they do "Master Of Puppets". Their Dad (and manager & producer) said it was the most difficult for them to get right, but they did it. Melody (Melo-Dio 18, because of her fascination with Dio) has the best rock voice you will hear. She started out on Bass guitar and vocals as you saw in Crazy Train, but now devotes her time to singing only, because Ethan, 14, moved from Rhythm guitar to Bass, and he kills it. That leaves the youngest, Justin, 13 on Keyboards. You need to check out their original stuff, but also their cover of Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart" Hmmm.... notice how both those female singers have the initials J.J. ? I'm already looking forward to your next reaction to them.

Not long after this they were asked not to busk on the pier anymore because they drew too large of crowds. However, that was not before they met Stewart Copeland of The Police and he played with them there. The parents run the show, manage, produce, drive and handle the merch. They are totally independent. You want to see Sam shred, try Mars live in Cummings, GA. You want to see Ethan shred before he took over the bass for Melody, look at their Trooper cover. You want to see Abigail living her best life on those drums, look at any video. Melody can do a mean Janis in Piece of My Heart also live from Cummings, GA And, last but definitely not least, Justin does some great playing on both piano and keyboards in Nothing as well as Sail Away. Both of those are original songs of theirs. Nothing was a lockdown video made in the living room of their small 3 bedroom apt. in Downy, CA and Sail Away was filmed on Huntington Beach I believe before they moved from California. And in case you're wondering, since I've heard several first time reactors ask this, HECK YES they can pull this off live. People be like, "Well anybody can sound good in a studio, but live is another thing." Then they watch a live Liliac performance and their jaws hit the floor. In fact, these kids sound just as good, if not better, live than they do on recordings. Fun fact since you're new: You noticed singer was playing bass and little brother was on rhythm guitar. They changed that up about 2 years ago, and little brother (not so little anymore) now plays bass, and singer just sings. So, if your next reaction is Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" (as it should be), you won't be confused when you see that change. This was some 5 years ago I think. They've come a long way. Sam is as amazing as ever with the 🎸, he's turning into a real virtuoso. Abigail is astonishingly good in the 🥁 and Melody's vocals over the years have gone from pretty good to great to phenomenal and now she's mind blowing. You shouldn't sleep on the little brothers though. Ethan is a great base player and he's only 15 but he's showing more personality than most kids his age Justin is already phenomenal with the 🎹 and he's getting better, also he's growing up to be quite the pretty boy who's gonna drive teen girls nuts and he's just 13. Give these guys 3-4 more years doing what they do now and then you'll see their true potential. I'll be very surprised if some big firm doesn't snatch them and makes them into a huge mainstream success. They are the future of rock & roll music.

Fun fact... the Santa Monica pier is where they cut their teeth because they were all too young to play in clubs. After 5yrs of busking every weekend on the pier the crowds got so big they were asked by the police to find somewhere else to play. Crowd and traffic control was getting to be too much. You're down the bunny hole now, enjoy your journey. Pick any song, you will not be disappointed. Every song but one is hard rocking metal. Sail Away (an original) is the only exception and it's the best ballad to be put out by anyone in years. Enjoy!

You have now fallen down the LILIAC rabbit hole. Just browse their YT channel and select any of their videos. "Crazy Train" was one of their early videos after switching from pop music to metal. I think it was made back in 2016 or 17. The keyboardist was only 9 or 10 at the time.. He's 13 now and his voice has already deepened recently. Their latest is a cover Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction." But one thing you should know is that the singer has dropped her bass playing for the most part, except for a few instances, and is focused mainly on being a Frontwoman. And you'll see that she can mimmick the vocal styles of the artists they're covering. From Ronnie James Dio, to James Hetfield, to Ozzy, to Dave Mustaine, to Jannis Joplin, to Joan Jett. The young guitarist in this video, picked up the bass, and is absolutely killing it. See their cover of Master of Puppets for that. Their style of music has been dubbed Vamp Metal, because their name Liliac means Bat in Romanian, where their parents are from. Their father grew up very near Vlad "The Impaler" Dracula's castle. It's not so much the sound of the music, but their stage garb. Very Victorian and "Underworld-esk" style dress.
Liliac’s version of, I hate Myself For Loving You, is better than the original! Mars live is an excellent original of theirs, especially if you want to see Sam shred!

Ethan is a great base player and he's only 15 but he's showing more personality than most kids his age Justin is already phenomenal with the 🎹 and he's getting better, also he's growing up to be quite the pretty boy who's gonna drive teen girls nuts and he's just 13. Give these guys 3-4 more years doing what they do now and then you'll see their true potential. I'll be very surprised if some big firm doesn't snatch them and makes them into a huge mainstream success. They are the future of rock & roll music.

And the singer was 16 in this video. I teach high schoolers, and I don't know many who could play bass that well, while singing that well, while having that stage presence, on a pier live with random strangers walking by. That's pure talent.

Fun fact... the Santa Monica pier is where they cut their teeth because they were all too young to play in clubs. After 5yrs of busking every weekend on the pier the crowds got so big they were asked by the police to find somewhere else to play. Crowd and traffic control was getting to be too much. You're down the bunny hole now, enjoy your journey. Pick any song, you will not be disappointed. Every song but one is hard rocking metal. Sail Away (an original) is the only exception and it's the best ballad to be put out by anyone in years. Enjoy!

You have now fallen down the LILIAC rabbit hole. Just browse their YT channel and select any of their videos. "Crazy Train" was one of their early videos after switching from pop music to metal. I think it was made back in 2016 or 17. The keyboardist was only 9 or 10 at the time.. He's 13 now and his voice has already deepened recently. Their latest is a cover Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction." But one thing you should know is that the singer has dropped her bass playing for the most part, except for a few instances, and is focused mainly on being a Frontwoman. And you'll see that she can mimmick the vocal styles of the artists they're covering. From Ronnie James Dio, to James Hetfield, to Ozzy, to Dave Mustaine, to Jannis Joplin, to Joan Jett. The young guitarist in this video, picked up the bass, and is absolutely killing it. See their cover of Master of Puppets for that.
Their style of music has been dubbed Vamp Metal, because their name Liliac means Bat in Romanian, where their parents are from. Their father grew up very near Vlad "The Impaler" Dracula's castle. It's not so much the sound of the music, but their stage garb. Very Victorian and "Underworld-esk" style dress.
Liliac’s version of, I hate Myself For Loving You, is better than the original! Mars live is an excellent original of theirs, especially if you want to see Sam shred!
