Every time I watch this it reminds how important rhythm is in good guitar playing. Guitar playing is at its most musical IMO when its thought of as part of the rhythm section.

He knows how to use the volume and tone controls (as well as being a thoughtful, nuanced guitar player). That changes everything. Just turning up to 10 on the guitar is bizarre, yet so many people do it.

Thanks so much for posting this. Barrie Cadogan is an amazing player - melodic, raunchy, combining double-stops, runs, chordal licks, resulting in an economic and highly tasteful style; this video has been a revelation to me, and I will not only be going back to some of Barrie's previous playing, but will be re-watching this video regularly.

I'd bet almost any instrument or vocal would be complemented by that room's reverb, just listen the the room's sound when he's only speaking.

60 years ago this week I got my first guitar - exactly like yours. Used it as my main axe for 6 years and then got a 335 in 1970 because of feedback and the loud stage volume we all used back then. Traded the 330 for a Martin D28 in 1975. Got it back about 8 years by trading a D35 for it.

Hi Barrie, I'm old now and I've been playing guitar for years and like most guitarist, It's something you'll ever be able to put down. The reason that I'm commenting on your video is that I first heard of you a couple of years ago and there was something about your playing that kept me coming back and listening. I really love that you're into the old sounds. Most music today sucks, but you bring on a whole new light and life to your sound. Absolutely incredible playing. I'm very surprised that someone so young is so talented and into this kind of music. It's great , keep up the videos. Great old guitars, must of cost you a fortune for them. There's just something about old instruments. So many young musicians tode ay just suck as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me wrong, even young girls that can play their asses off. TH-cam is a great venue for showcasing people's talent. I'm talking about girls that are like 15 or 16 years old. Some unbelievable talent out there, but these are the people who never seem to make it big in the music business. Anyways, just thought I'd say, you do a great job. Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Nice overview. Looks an unusual colour as well, I like it a lot. The Epiphone amp sounds great. Even with the thin body, the 330 has quite a feel of an acoustic about it, being so light. In the 70's all we had to go on was TOTP or album covers & the odd magazine, so 330's were not very well known. When I got my '63, it was the ONLY Gibson I could stretch to, all the others I saw were at least 25% more £ . If there'd been a rough Les Paul for the money I would have got that instead, as they were the guitar du jour in the mid 70's & probably still are. (And you pretty much never see a rough one!) But as a teen, with a long summer of hard work & saving behind me, even the roughest LPs were way out of my price range. The 330 was covered in "cigarette" burns & very tatty but.. it played like a dream & everyone who played it over the years had the same reaction, "pity about the condition, oh s##t this is so good"!. I couldn't even afford the case at the time so that's lost in the mists of time. I used to carry it wrapped in blanket until someone took pity & gave me a crappy hardboard case. It had a few more knocks since then but the sunburst was so nice I knew it would never look the same again if I had it refinished. So it remained the same old banger, but such a sweet guitar with plenty of "patina"😄.

Ive always liked barrie, he's a perfect example of a player/performer, and definitely suits the quote "The right Guitar speaks to the player".

I keep returning to these Barrie Cadogan videos - they're immense. As an aside - I would love to see him play with Jeff Beck, they both seem to have their guitar roots in original rock 'n roll.

Whether it's the Mississippi Delta or the Thames river Delta the soul is the same. Top man, Barrie!

I have probably watched this once a day since discovering it a month ago 😂. It’s given me such a three-three-oh hankering. ❤
