- Red River Gorge is a part of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. It is designated a geological area as it is well known for it's natural rock arches the most famous of these being Grays Arch.

Your camp spot was at the exact location of the last recorded bear attack in the State of KY. Interesting, I also took some pictures of bear tracks in the snow right at Silverman's Arch. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Next time you're planning a trip here, you should talk to some locals before heading out or maybe head over the KYWilderness web site. There are lots of unmarked trails, arch's, and overlooks all over the RRG.

We went to Shenandoah in late Oct of 2019 and it was soooooo crowded. It really took away from the tranquil experience that I've come to know and love about NPs and nature. ANyway, we were gonna do Smokies and Mammoth Cave nps in May 2020 but crossed off Smokie s (too darn crowded) Thanks to TH-cam and this video, we're doing Mammoth and Red River Gorge geological area! I'm so stoked! Thanks for this awesome video and thanks for NOT editing out your mini panic. It makes us less experienced hikers know what not to do plus helps us to know that even the most experienced CAN panic if they allow themselves! Humility wins every time! Thanks again! Red River Gorge 2020, here we come!

I like your way of showing us your route on the map, it's a nice visual and reference point.
The Smart Water bottles are great! They're lightweight and long so I don't have to reach far behind me to get it and it's easier to put back in the pack. I also like the sip spout on them.
They also fit perfectly on the sawyer mini which makes it a backup squeeze bag for your filter.
Another great vid! My first night in a hammock was thunderstorms and 50+mph wind gusts, sounded like a freight train the entire night, but I was in my backyard.. Looked like some scary moments there, but awesome you made it to Hansons Point finally. Like how you don't edit out those real moments that happen a fair amount - learn a lot that way. I went to greys arch in July and spent a few hours there hiking the the arch. I have never been there it is awesome. I will camp overnight there sometime

Well done your hiking videos are the best. I suspect the pole is to hang a lantern. I lost the trail in Yosemite exploring and I know how you felt! I was not 100 yds off but couldn't see it since there was little foliage or trees so everything looked the same. I only found it after seeing a couple guys thankfully since we were farther up than most people went.
I just listened to you on John & Jerimiah's Podcast. I will be heading to the RRG for the first time the week of Easter '21. Thanks for the guidance, this is certainly one of the places I want to get to. Tom in Michigan...

You picked an ambitious route. And, yes, it's easy to get turned around on those ridgetops. Hanson's is the farthest point on the ridge. There are at least 2 other overlooks near it.
I watched this video 2 or 3 times the week leading up to my Red River Gorge trip, and I'm glad I did... My friend and I were about 8 miles in on our second day and about a mile from Gray's Arch. I was hiking faster than him so I just pushed on and planned to wait for him at the Arch. Well, it wasn't smart of me and he took a wrong turn, splitting us up by about 2 miles, with no cell service. I was freaking out, thinking that he had fallen and been hurt or something, but I remembered the way you were at Hanson's point and just "stopping and collecting your thoughts" and I thought through it and, long story short, I found him. Thanks! Awesome videos.

Wow - this was a really nicely done video. My son and I really enjoyed watching this together. We will be heading down this year with our Overlanding gear to do some off roading, hiking and camping. We thought and were glad that you included the pieces of video on top during the rain storm. It's important to show that even with seasoned hikers such as your self and with all the planning that nature can always present challenges. Even the dangerous cliff sides and the potential areas to slip; glad you kept that in as well. The editing was great. Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm now a subscriber. My two 21 year old sons and I love camping, hiking, and now we've added a new element to our outdoor adventures - Overlanding.
Whippoorwills are not heard by most people, they are amazing but see how they can be annoying while trying to sleep. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I love the Red River Gorge area, and even though it's a six hour drive for me too, I go every chance I get. I am still working through some of your older videos and really enjoyed this trip with you. Add Auxier Ridge to your next trip, it's got more smiles per mile than any trail in the park, in my opinion, and it's 6-8 mile loop is home to my favorite campsite ever with a good water source in the Auxier Branch. The Red River Underground have a TH-cam channel that show many, many hidden trails, arches and views to enrich your trip.
You would also love the Indian Staircase/Council Chamber/Cloudsplitter loop, you have the legs for it, and that is almost all off-trail.
I did auxier ridge it was beautiful. In the winter red River gorge video. I've also watched the underground yt channel excellent info.
It's good that you're willing to leave the uncomfortable stuff in your videos. I like your attitude. I'd hike with you. Great video bro.

The hooks that you were thinking were bear bag hooks. They are lantern hooks. The lower hooks are for your back pack. We have those things all over here in Arkansas. Thanks for the vid.

Those camp sites on hansons points have trails going all over the place, pretty easy to get turned around on the way back out

If you like the Arches there, you should check out Arches National Park, I went there in 2014, amazing.
For an overnighter you had a hell of a trip and saw some of the best places in the park. The whippoorwill has kept me up a few nights there as well. I look forward to hearing there call in a few weeks as I am going to take my 4yr old kid there and do a quick 1 nighter to Hanson's. You should check out this book it will answer pretty much all hammock questions: amzn.to/2H6sYcz What I do is outstretch my arms and trekking poles. That's the distance I like.
You should check out Packit Gourmet for some good food options and they also sell boil in bags. Maybe a little better than just a ziploc.
+eric fiorello I've checked them out before. They are a little lower in calories and a bit more expensive but healthier and tastier. I do the ziplocs so I don't have much cleanup

On you vid, after you left GReys Arch and was talking about where you were going to stay, you totally missed a very cool feature. It was on you left on a rock formation called Jasmine Rock! Really neat, sorry you missed it, 🙁

Great Video! This is your best video to date. I like how you keep your videos real and not over editing them. I also saw hangers like that and my thought was for hanging the pack on it. I will be trying a few new things for filming my next trip video. Of coarse good weather always helps for filming. A+.

I just let them dry as I walk. Works well especially after you develop your feet to where your feet don't blister or crack any more.

Outdoor Adventures One more question, I know how to use the TH-cam cards to show a link to a different video in the upper right corner of a video I make but how do you do the thumbnail videos that are actually playing without audio in that fashion? Like when you point to a spot saying "Watch my review on this hammock right here" then you point and the thumbnail is playing for a few seconds where you pointed. Sorry for the bother but I really like that
you gotta do the video through video editing software then link it later using annotations in youtube. you should check out some editing software tutorials. i recommend adobe premiere

Do the gaters help? / How do they hold up to crossings?
The gaiters are just meant to keep rocks and debris out of your shoes. The ones I wear aren't waterproof they will soak up a little water from wet brush.
The most famous is NOT Gray's Arch. The most famous is Natural Bridge!

Natural Bridge isn't exactly a part of the Gorge. Rather it's near it, to the south, off Route 11.

At around minute 25, which trail were you on and where were you initially headed?
It's a unofficial side trail. I was heading to Hanson's Point.
What about the constantly wet feet? I know they drain but still seems uncomfortable for long distance. Cool area though...would like to see. Why do you not carry some kind of GPS device...phone with map app for when you need to get back on track?
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) most trail runners, especially mine, are made mostly of mesh which dries incredibly fast.
I have 2 pairs of those...they can't dry that fast...I would still take mine off to cross...I hate wet feet unless I'm walking down a creek comtinuously
