Don’t toss any old 💿’s. Tie them up in your fruit trees, and trellises to keep birds away. And Jen can tie foil ribbon bows around in the apple tree. Shinny reflective ribbon. 😜
When I was physically able to have a garden. I was organic before the grocery stores had organic fruits and vegetables. I also companion planted my vegetables. These were my favorite. 1) Basil with my tomatoes. I planted a basil plant between each of the tomato plants. 2) Nasturtiums with my cucumbers. Both plants climbed the same trellis. 3) Marigolds between each cabbage plant. All of these companion plants were edible. I also used the Old Farmer's Almanac and planted the entire garden by the moon. I'm 80 years old and my Grandfather taught me to use these gardening tips.
Hey I’m a new family member. I was watching another channel video it ended when I came back your video was playing. What an amazing Homestead you have. I’ll love all of your flowerbeds. I have never seen anybody put corn in a box. Interesting. Love love love your family thank you for sharing
You guys are too cute growing together! Yall are always smiling! Love the beds and the heck with everyone else grow what you want where you want. Great
Hello Zack and Jen. Thanks for the tour of your gardens. These are my favorite videos. Something you might wanna do in the kitchen garden since you’ve already invested in the tarp is to try to clean up the mulch off of it and then to then cover it with with gravel. You could use pretty pea gravel or just the cheaper stuff but a thick layer of that might help suppress the weeds. And then as they pop up they should be easier to pull out of the gravel. Or a trick I’ve learned is to pour boiling water on weeds and they will shrivel up and die. Anyways just a thought. Thanks for doing what you do. I appreciate you both and the time you take to show me how to grow my gardening skills. 😊
😃Boiling water! I have a garden path that runs past a patch of raspberries, I've struggled keeping at the weeds I'm scared to use chemical so close to edibles.
Love it all!! On the corn, I have 4 rows of about 50 feet. I run my hands through the pollen and touch all the silks. It has worked amazing for me the last 4 years.
You guys rock. Thanks so much for giving me the idea to build a bed for my 6 year old grandson who is coming in June to stay the summer with me...I couldn't believe how excited he was to get to grow whatever he wants and to take care of it all by himself 😁
Everything looks so beautiful. So many dreams and blessings have come to fruition this year on your homestead. We just have to trust in Gods timing and be patient and have Faith our plans will all work out. Love all the updates. Many blessings from our homestead to yours.
Jerusalem artichokes grow about 12-14' tall and make yellow sunflower like blossoms! The Wampanaug Indians used them. They grow naturally around southeastern Massachusetts.
Garden looks awesome guys! Don't let any one tell you can't grow corn. True, it needs to pollinate by nearby plants. I have successfully grown container corn in a kiddie pool in blue walmart bags. 5 stalks per bag x 7 bags with subordination in the pool. Like w tomatoes, I tap my corn stalks as well.
Hey Zack , We southerners call them 'Ears of corn" ,the "cob" is what the corn Kernels grows on and is what is used for toilet paper . I feel mean today I turned 66 and I am old today. Love you Guys!.
Hello new friend here! Thank you for sharing your garden with me. I just love how it’s all coming 🫑🍅🪴👍together and growing so nicely! I love to garden and I also make garden videos. I in my 3rd year gardening. I have so much to still learn. I’d love it if we could learn more from each other! Happy gardening 👨🌾 🌼🌻🐝🌸🌺🍅🫑☀️👍
**HUGS & PRAYERS** I miss Mark too. He was a sweet man. I started watching his TH-cam channel after seeing him on your channel. So wonderful you found another pack of his seeds. What a great memorial to save and have to plant again in Marks Memory. I just LOVE your place. It is just beautiful and I am so happy you found it. You all have a Blessed Week **HUGS & PRAYERS** from Kelly and the critters at Piney Haven Homestead.
What a great garden! I just got mine planted too! Lol I’m trying some bug and rabbit cloth to hopefully keep them off so they can grow. Hugs and love from Texas, zone 8
What a wonderful couple! I loved your tour! My peas aren't behaving either! I've had to put some sticks beside them to help them up to the wire for them to grow up! lol God Bless!
LOVE the gardens! Oh Jen love the mint. My chocolate mint is going wild and everywhere...lol... gout my spearmint And my peppermint.... I'm in search of orange mint and apple mint. Had ginger mint but it never did well. Tarragon, yellow yarrow, chives, oregano, rosemary, and I just sowed purple basil, lemon basil, and extra large leaf Italian basil, lemon grass, I have one cherry bush knank cherry and it's beautiful.... flowered like crazy but I surfing know I needed two to cross pollinate.... hahaha so next year I'll get another one. Got gooseberry bush.... same thing there...lol... cilantro. I want more herbs...i do have a ton of seeds of more different seeds. Thank you for your garden tour.
My 7.5 year old loves to garden. Her thing to grow is tomatoes. She loves growing different kinds of tomatoes. As long as I have my Cherokee Purple's, I'm good. She is growing white tomatoes and Black Beauty tomatoes this year, plus her favorite to eat, Mr. Stripey. :)
I put down the fancy dewalt black fabric all over the garden and then decided to test out pebbles on top of the fabric at the entrance of the garden. I'm so glad I didn't put pebbles all over the garden because the weeds are constantly growing in those pebbles. The black fabric is so nice in the garden to keep it clean and weed free and I'll never put anything on top of it.
I am PRAYING for you Zack. Working full time plus ??? Add MANY, many hours of homesteading and life. PLEASE be careful. PLEASE pray and rest and eat your meals. It's the mom in me telling you all this. I love you and your wife and children and all your family and animals. Have fun,. Seek GOD love from s.e. MICHIGAN 🀄🀄🀄
We put in cherry bushes, not sure of the brand but they produced great, but they were mostly seed. The birds will eat them in a day. They died out after about 10 years. Good luck!
Love your beds! Beautiful cabbage. I'm working on mine as well...mostly weeding. Good luck with the growing this year hope it won't be too hot and dry. "...may the rains fall soft upon your fields and may God hold you in the palm of His hand".
Corn support suggestion: I too grow corn in raised beds and if wind/storms is a concern, put up stakes at both ends of the rows and zigzag string between the corn stalks, zig zag down one side to the end stake, circle around and zig zag the opposite sides back to the stake you started from, at about 18" and 36" up to have them support each other.
And the Job’s tears are in the grass family, it is such a cool plant. You can make jewlery from the seeds that that it grows, sort of like corn. You’ll love it!
You're going to love the Sweet Williams! That was the only flower I was allowed to pick from my Grandma's yard bc they are so prolific & they smell SO GOOOD! Everything looks amazing, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us & teaching as you go. Much appreciated!
The sweet William will reseed easily. Cut it back and it will grow again before the season is over. Take the stuff you cut off and shake the seeds out everywhere.
Your gardens are wonderful and letting the kids have their space and learn is so wise. I hope your peas take off soon! Zach is so funny explaining the Jerusalem artichokes. You have such a large garden and it should be so productive. It will be a lot of work, but it seems so peaceful and relaxing there as well. Thank you for sharing!! I just smiled the whole time watching!
Jen the J/Artichokes can cause lots of gas when eaten fresh or cooked, but they ferment well & then you don't have any gas problems when you eat them. They only stay good in the fridge about 10 to 12 days, so fermenting them preserves them really well too & they stay nice & I've found they stay pretty crisp. Your garden layout is amazing, I'm so envious! My husband & I both have some major health problems but we still try to have our veggie gardens, all are small raised beds on legs so we don't have to bend too much, but I also love the grow bags, we put them up on benches for ease of use. Sadly there is just now way to make our garden pretty like yours, but we do our best with lots of flowers etc. Best wishes for a wonderful garden season.
Jobs tears are a grain. Mine looks like corn stalks at the moment. But they're said to used to make jewelry like rosary beads and such. This is our first year growing them!
Y’all will have Jerusalem Artichokes from now on. Make sure you plant it in a permanent spot, because you won’t get rid of it. If a little of the root is left, you’ll get a plant. They are great sautéed and healthy. Great looking garden!,,, Miss Sandra Kay
I had to pause to comment on the garlic. We planted garlic for the first time the fall before last and harvest our own garlic scapes and garlic last year. And garlic scape pesto....oh. my. Word, y'all, the best. Love it. I pretty much tell everyone how wonderful it is and chance I get ...as evidence by pausing to type this for whoever to read. 😁. Back to the video now.
I love you guys and how you encourage us. I feel like I'm behind because my snow peas are blooming like crazy, but they are in the spot I need to plant tomatoes. I'm going to get them in next week, but I needed this encouragement today.
Let the lemon balm go to seed once and the following year you’ll have it in every planting bed, along every fence line and tree line. Ask me how I know. I couldn’t run out of lemon balm even if I wanted to. Best problem to have. :)
Your gardens are beautiful...I love all the arches... soon you'll be able to move your chairs under the arches & sit in the shade & smell & see the fruits of your labors
After what left like the longest day at work I really enjoyed watching your beautiful garden, I plan on finally getting my summer crops out this weekend. This is the first time I'm planting in ground, I have always been a container gardener but from what my cold crops look like I clearly did something right so fingers crossed
A banana peel submerged in equal parts vinegar and sugar will draw bugs keeping the apples free and clear 👍 it works. I do it. Put the mixture in a bottle/jug and hang it from a branch. I change mine 4th week every month , all natural beats sprays of any kind
We’re moving in mid July to North Carolina so we will prepare our garden throughout the winter and spring and hopefully next summer will be able to plant! We currently live in Arizona and have never been able to get any herbs or tomatoes for more than four weeks until they turn to dust from the sun! We are so excited to get our hands and the good old earth again!
We've had great luck with corn in raised beds! The kids love the Japanese Hull-less Popcorn and requested more this year...144 seeds in the ground for 2022. 🤞
Whew Jenn, you really need to direct sow your peas late Feb, early March. It may get too hot too fast and they won't produce this year. I'm in the zone just below you and I've already harvested almost 2 gallons of pods, my plants are almost done. Fingers crossed your will keep growing. We harvest Jerusalem artichokes when we got to the TN river. They grow crazy up there. Eat them like potatoes. Y'alls farm is looking FABULOUS! Really enjoyed your tour! It's crazy how different just one zone difference can be. I'm already done with my broccoli and cabbage will start being harvested next week! I love seeing the differences!
Wow everything looks so amazing! Can’t wait till our hot weather picks up here in northern Canada. I believe your cherry bushes should already be in bloom?? I have a hardy evs sour cherry tree and it is already in bloom in 5c. Remember to give it a handful of Bonemeal every spring just as a wake up call. Good luck hope you get fruit off of it this year!
The garden beds look awesome.li Hope after hubbys hip surgery he is able to build me those next spring!!. The house and the whole farm is such a beautiful space..u hit the jackpot on that farm!
This video reminded me that I need to go search online for some comfrey starts so that I can make comfortable. The gardens are looking great you guys are doing a wonderful job.
Oh wow the garlic looks amazing. My fall planted is just coming up. I’m in northern Alberta Canada. I’m going to try freeze drying my scapes this year to make a granulated seasoning.
I love the garden. I live in the city in a house, but my yard is totally dead. No grass no weeds. We had a pool and i think between that and my chickens they killed it. I have corn planted in pots, but i know as soon as its big enough to transplant the birds will find a way to get to it. Will be working on a solution with a dog run for the birds.
Love your garden areas. We are down here in the south close to the gulf coast and feel we are behind also. Where we started to put our garden turned out to not be so good so we had to move it, but we are slowly getting it done. Although we wanted raised beds it just isn't in our budget, so we are having to do an in ground garden this year. Crossing our fingers that this first year garden on our new property is successful!
You have a fantastic start to your garden, and I look forward to its growth. I wish I could share some pics of my giant zinnias....they are so gorgeous, and they are planted around my cabbage, which are huge. I am in 9B and we had a mild winter in the Phoenix area- so my garden definitely has had a headstart. I am looking forward to the next tour 🌻
Look-en great your gardens! Job tears spread like came, and they Bloom seeds that Is used for leis, here in Hawaii. Enjoy your blessings i of abundance! God Bless you all, Aloha 🌴
Yes ! you can do corn in a bed. However guys I have done it and was going to have a great crop. They looked beautiful. They were about 5 ft tall. Each had 2-3 cobs on each was in one of my 18 ft beds.We had a storm and laid them down.So if you can give them side support.I was heart broken all but one died. Your peas will take off. They like manure but if it's fresh it can stunt there growth.I do Oregon sugur Peas. There a cool crop and I can useally get two crops per season.✌️💞 Happy Gardening
I have nanking cherry bushes. They bloom very early here in western NC so therefore the blooms have gotten killed for the last 3 years. We have only gotten about a half cup of cherries so far. We covered them last year with a tarp but they still got killed. Maybe some day.
Cabbage is jamming Jen wounder if you are interested in how they grow peas in England on the allotment s there’s a man called Nigel on TH-cam his channel is called muddy boots and his peas do well each year just thought you might be interested ❤️🙏all the best
I am like you Jen I feel like my stuff has "stalled" and it's stressing me out too 😩 I have to keep trusting in the Lord he will give us what we need, not what we want 🙏🙏! You guys are awesome!
Hey y’all. I know how much Jen loves medicinal herbs as I do to. Just so you know Thai basil and Holy basil (aka Tulsi) are not the same. Thai does have a licorice taste but Holy basil/tulsi doesn’t. It’s similar to regular basil but has more medicinal benefit. It’s an adaptogen (helps body adapt to stress) Very relaxing but doesn’t make you sleepy. If you love chamomile and lemon balm I think you you’ll love tulsi too! Give it a try in some tea. Much love to y’all!
Oh I have a tub of Jerusalem artichokes too! 3rd year and we’ve never harvested yet… I tried (barely) last fall to dump the tub but they didn’t come out, so I left them. Actually thought I killed them but nope! They are filling out beautifully! Hopefully we’ll actually dig up and eat some this year!
Love your gardens. The kids garden is so cute. I have my first garden at our new place but deer been in it. I have an apple tree. Have a great Weekend.
Your garden is beautiful! I planted a smaller raised garden this year , my first time with raised beds. I usually plant in the ground but didn’t have the space this year and my chickens need the room more than me planting a garden. I keep adding to my beds cause I keep think what all I can freeze and can and with the price of food right now( will only get worse) I figured even if we don’t eat much of that veggie, we will if it comes down to not having anything else to eat. LoL I hope you have a blessed harvest this year and can’t wait to see all your upcoming videos.
Zach. I planted five slips last year and got 75 lbs of fantastic sweet potatoes. Can’t imagine how much you will get with 100 slips.
Lol ok, I was a little worried with my 4 slips 😅
Don’t toss any old 💿’s. Tie them up in your fruit trees, and trellises to keep birds away. And Jen can tie foil ribbon bows around in the apple tree. Shinny reflective ribbon. 😜
When I was physically able to have a garden. I was organic before the grocery stores had organic fruits and vegetables. I also companion planted my vegetables. These were my favorite.

All of these companion plants were edible.
I also used the Old Farmer's Almanac and planted the entire garden by the moon. I'm 80 years old and my Grandfather taught me to use these gardening tips.
Very interesting about companion gardening.
Thanks for the tips! Blessings💖🙏

I miss warm weather! It’s 2024 and Winter begins tomorrow Dec 21st. Uugghh! I love to go back n watch warmer weather n gardens lol.

Add some twine along the lower part of your pea hog panels, it's super easy for the peas to 'grab hold' and start to climb. It's sorta 'hairy' 😂
Hello new friend here! Thank you for sharing your garden with me. I just love how it’s all coming 🫑🍅🪴👍together and growing so nicely! I love to garden and I also make garden videos. Jen you are absolutely a delight to watch you make touring a garden a treasure and by the way it is beautiful!
**HUGS & PRAYERS** I miss Mark too. He was a sweet man. I started watching his TH-cam channel after seeing him on your channel. So wonderful you found another pack of his seeds. I have been so excited for your great new homestead. It is so beautiful. God bless you all and keep on keeping on.
Rosella makes yummy jam/jelly as well. I love watching you 2. The wonderful chemistry between you as well as your videos are perfect. Thank you 😊
What a wonderful couple! I loved your tour!
My peas aren't behaving either! I've had to put some sticks beside them to help them up to the wire for them to grow up! lol
God Bless!
LOVE the gardens! Oh Jen love the mint. My chocolate mint is going wild and everywhere...lol... gout my spearmint And my peppermint.... I'm in search of orange mint and apple mint. not enough time to watch your channel, but your smiles on your thimbnail totally rock! Just seeing you made me happy! Thank you!!!
My garden should be all planted by Sunday. Grandkids here today.
Great video
I’m in E. TN and my peas are struggling, Finally see some growth. Hope I get something.
I agree with Jenn that side of the house is gorgeous with your beautiful gardens and trees!
You can use tulle for pest control for your cabbage plants. Rabbits, squirrels, birds, even deer avoid it.

The garden beds look awesome.li Hope after hubbys hip surgery he is able to build me those next spring!!. The house and the whole farm is such a beautiful space..u hit the jackpot on that farm!
You guys are just adorable!! Thanks for posting. You now have a big fan in Eastern Kansas💚
Everything is looking great, Blessings for your family and your garden !
Another good 👍 one. I live in a small apartment in town. I live my garden, preserving food and creative life through you two. Thank you so much.
Those cabbages are beautiful! So is everything else!
Beautiful gardens, you are really going to be busy at harvest! Happy Gardening, enjoy.😊🍒🌺🥬🫐🥒🍋🌸🍉🌻
This video reminded me that I need to go search online for some comfrey starts so that I can make comfortable. The gardens are looking great you guys are doing a wonderful job.

you all have got a beautiful homestead. your garden is going to be great. i wish you all the best of luck. you are two great people
Love your garden areas.
Wow! I can’t believe how nice your cabbage looks. Its been way too hot here for spring cabbage. Love your garden space. 💜💜
The peas I transplanted aren't getting very big so I went back and directly sowed some more near them and those are doing better then the transplants.
looking good,we have been here 30 years and still moving thing ,have fun
Look-en great your gardens! Job tears spread like came, and they Bloom seeds that Is used for leis, here in Hawaii. Enjoy your blessings i of abundance! God Bless you all, Aloha 🌴
I have grown corn in raised garden beds and it did fantastic. 🌽
Yes ! you can do corn in a bed.
Hi Jen, if you plant marigolds and basil in with your tomatoes they will deter the pests.🥰
I did sunflowers in every bed too. Last year and this year. I got a lot of volunteers this year too after giving last years seeds to the birds
Cabbage is jamming Jen wounder if you are interested in how they grow peas in England on the allotment s there’s a man called Nigel on TH-cam his channel is called muddy boots and his peas do well each year just thought you might be interested ❤️🙏all the best
cucumbers would be great to grow on the arch in your kids gardens
What a lovely garden tour!!! ❤️
Jerusalem artichokes are DELICIOUS. We had wild in R TX. Now I need to get some for S CA.
So beautiful and peaceful…love it…God Bless
We planted corn last year in our raised bed it worked great.
Comfrey is the easiest plant to propagate literally stick a leaf in the ground I divided on plant your size 50 times I use it for fertilizer
The gardens look fantastic guys! Blessings from Western NC🙏💖
It’s all looking good. I’m so glad for spring.
I just love you both. You are an inspiration and so much fun to watch . Keep it up❤🤗❤
Love your gardens.
