    This is what I call a "subversive" bike. It's not meant to be ridden as a bike at all. It's really meant to be used primarily with the throttle. The reason the chain and gear set (and the warning) is there is to make it LOOK like a bike, and, as Shakespeare said, keep it on "the windy side of the law." Ariel, Juiced, Super73 all play in this space. I appreciate you have to navigate this space carefully when you review this "bike," but let's be real - the intent here is not bicycle riding; it's moped riding in disguise to avoid motor vehicle restrictions and insurance requirements that apply to ICE mopeds, scooters, and the like. For the record, I personally have nothing against this. This is something I would look at to put on my RV rack and use as a secondary means of travel. But as a motorcycle rider myself, I would also recommend that anyone taking this machine to its top speed limit wear a DOT-approved motorcycle helmet. Your noggin will thank you when you lay this baby down.

      Yep. Agree 100%. I have an M-License and was very careful about how and where I rode the bike... and which mode I used. I write a bit more about this topic in the full review, and I wish everyone safety who chooses this or similar ebikes.

      Respect you calling it out for what it is. Yes, they’re “checking the boxes” as you say. That it works is a flaw in the laws which should be addressed before the accidents not after.

      @@frankfurter7260What flaw in the law? Most of the bikes mentioned all go 25-30 mph. Lots of normal ebikes go that fast with pedal assist. Just because someone isn't pedaling doesn't change anything

      Thanks David, I'm doing my best! I know it's a lot of money to spend, so I try to handle things thoughtfully for viewers and go deep, but also give the company a chance to explain things and tell their story. I could tell they worked really hard on this.

  • @Todd66

    Pretty cool looking, wish they would have put the battery down low and given it rear suspension. The square/rectangle headlight does it for me, as does the seat. Fenders are actually cool. Frame looks nice. I like the tires for urban/city riding.

  • @eugene188

    Nice looking bike, reminds me of the Sondors Madmods, and just as heavy,. But for nearly 3K, it seems like there are something things missing. mainly real suspension. and i would have thought the screen would be colour. It's got signal lights which is key. I like some things, but dislike some others.

    The most complete review I've seen on this bike and I've watched them all. Your review is the ~only one~ that shows how to switch into off-road mode without an APP at 12:45 . Seems silly to make people use another device to operate the bike. Bike should be stand alone. Even the c3stom website has no information on use of the display. The bike doesn't even appear to include any type of owner's manual for servicing/cleaning/usage. Just an assembly manual.

      Fair point, I like the full suspension designs and have seen some good mopeds for sale at the $2,800 price with Bosch motors, dual suspension, front and rear blinkers, DOT approved etc. but they don't have pedals. Here's an example: www.niu.com/en/u-series/

      Get the ariel rider grizzly. Has suspension, can hold like 400 lbs and can unlock a setting that allows speeds up to 35mph. Even 37mph with pedal assist. Only issue is its also heavy can't adjust seat so it's not the best to peddle. And it apparently takes like 3 months to ship... but from what I read it's the best you can buy. And it's around the price of this bike

    Gorgeous design and features for the price. The problem I have is that the seat has no height adjustment. I'm the same height as Court and if you look at the third-person riding scene his knees come close to his chest. He also looks pretty scrunched up while pedaling. Doesn't seem comfortable on longer rides. I'd prefer a bit more leg extension which is not fixable on this bike.

    Thanks for doing this honest review! I'm wondering, how many miles do you think it would likely get on a charge while maintaining 20-30mph speeds across moderately hilly terrain? Assuming a fair amount of pedal assist. I've never rode an ebike and while I love my race and touring/gravel road bikes, I live about 16 miles from nearby towns in east TN and it's just enough to make the "normal" bikes too inconvenient for trips esp when I may be coming back after dark, also thinking about moving to maybe 40ish miles outside of DC and would be cool if this could for sure get to the city without losing charge while maintaining 20-30mph

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, chain guard would be nice... I'd probably use some clear box tape to protect the chain stay. I think the long chain was an afterthought. They probably picked the design, made sure the wheels were spaced apart so you wouldn't kick the front fender... and also so it didn't look too compact. Since the wheels have a smaller diameter, the wheelbase is longer (even though the overall length is about the same as a normal bike). The result is a longer chain length to reach that rear axle. It's not the end of the world, and I think it's a common design compromise for this type of minibike style product.

Off-road it would be okay but then you have the problem of the low pedal cranks and chain ring which would hit just about any object you went over . I like the low price but not really for me , it's an electric motorcycle :-)

      @@bindingcurve I don't really think you can say a bicycle with an electric motor is a moped . They are so different , the wheel size , seating position and a 2 stroke motor for the moped make them a lot different . Also a E-mountain bike can go off road whereas a moped is only for the road .

      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's setup with plenty of space in the center for adding additional batteries. I feel like it could be difficult to change the hub motor, since it's encased in the cast wheel. How would you approach it? Which motor would you go for? Something from Luna maybe?

      Yeah, I suspect there's a trade-off in making it look cool, handle the fat tires, be sturdy enough for this kind of speed, and also trying to keep the weight low. I found that it actually provided a sense of stability and security, but there are many times I've ridden my light weight non-electric mountain bike over 28mph and felt comfortable too.
