I think the next day watching, Dan Hicks, the commentator for NBC, said something like, “All of Austria, not to mention all of the world, all of the media, INCLUDING US, were assuming Anna Veith would be the winner.” I mentioned in a reply to another comment that NBC actually cut away from the event to show the men’s figure skating event. After a skater got their score, Terry Gannon, the figure skating commentator, says “we hear there’s a surprise at the women’s Super G.” After commercial, they go back to the Super G event, and Dan Hicks says, “Well, these are the Olympics, and anything can happen, and it just happened in the Women’s Super G.”
