  • See how I replace the entire front brake system - rotors/hubs, bearings, calipers, and pads on my 85 Ford F-150. It was an interesting experience and something I've never done before, so I learned a whole lot.
For instance, I learned that new hubs/rotors often come with bearing races pre-installed... and that getting them out is harder than the internet makes it seem. I also learned that trying to prevent a brake line connected via a banjo bolt from spilling the entire contents of your master cylinder is a lost cause unless you want to try to clamp your brake line... a risk I wasn't willing to take.
In the end, I thought I had it all figured out, but then... I didn't. Make sure to stick around to part 4 where I'll talk about everything I learned and some of the 'above and beyond' steps I had to do in order to get my brake system back in working order.
Some of the parts/products I used in this video:

    Driver's Caliper: amzn.to/39FxAHb
    Passenger's Caliper: amzn.to/37ux4c4
    Brake Pads: amzn.to/2IgTwgs

Hey little tip I learned from the past two bullnoses I’ve had, load that dust cover up with some grease so that it can feed the bearing and spindle as time goes. Cheers

Goddang it... I have an 85 E150 and the front brakes are the same as your F150... I changed out the passenger side caliper and hose earlier in the day... Had this clip I couldn't figure out where it would go... 32 minutes in, you showed that clip... Other vids on TH-cam did not show that clip!!!
    Thanks!
I'll put it on the driver side inner pad...

Those rotors are coated with oil to keep them from rusting. You should have cleaned both sides of them before installing them, and after touching them with greasy hands. That will mess up your pads

I am in the process of doing the same job. When I put the caliper back on, the pads are tight to the rotor and takes a lot of effort to turn the rotor. Is this normal?

I was going to ask the same question. My F-150 is a strange beast. It's a 1994 but seems to have the 1993 front calipers. 1993 was the last year that they used to triangular slide pins to hold the caliper in place. In 1994, they went to the two slide pin bolts. What I was going to ask is - are the calipers supposed to be so tight on the rotor and should the caliper slide back and forth as it would do if mounted on two slide pin bolts? Seems like such a tight fit would cause excessive heat and drag which would glaze up the pads pretty fast.

Hey Ed! Where have you been? I think you said in one of your videos that your wife recently had a baby? If so, I understand how busy you have been. Otherwise, we need more videos! How's the truck going? How are you and the family more importantly. Hoping you are well!

is this caliper setup similar to an 87 F-150 XLT Lariat? Question on the removal of the banjo bolt to the caliper...if you have left it connect to the old caliper, hung it up and then installed the new caliper on the new rotor and then taken the banjo bolt from the old one and immediately connected it to the new one....would that have saved the fluid from draining?

Maybe put a nerf dart to put in through the hole of the brake line?

Money excesses or no, manufactured parts that can be rebuilt are worth saving as spares. That’s what I do

I just got a caliper from autozone that is a remanufactured part.
Returning old parts keeps the cycle going on affordable parts.
I will be returning my old caliper for the core and so somebody else can afford another remanufactured one.

One way to help determine if it is would be to listen during turns when the weight shifts from one wheel to another. If the sound picks up on either side there’s a good chance it is
