Ian went from Sunday-league to Crystal Palace late at age 21, joined Arsenal at 27, broke all club records then got his big wage at West Ham at 34, and was still scoring until his knees went at 37. What a striker and what a story ❤

People don't realise how important Ian Wright was to people back in the 90s. One of the best strikers English football has ever produced. Given the price people are paying for players today, Wrighty would easily be £110m+. With the way defenders are now, he will guarantee you 30+ Prem goals per season too!
Yes well said. My favourite player brilliant striker buy also a great personality I went to games as youngster thinking he'd score every game but also looked forward to his celebrations.
A lot of the younger generation won’t understand what a wonderful player Ian wright was, true pace,a finisher and a real shithouse. He was my first real football hero and it’s so endearing to see him be so frank and honest about his career. What a player
You can understand a league two player trying to get the best deal, if youve agreed 2k a week at Salford and another club offers you 3k, its a big difference especially when they will have to work after football.
True when you look at it like that as opposed to a top multi millionaire player say being offered 150k a week at one club and 160k a week at another it's easier for them to take the 150k than it would be 2k or 3k it's a very good point tbh.
I saw a Kick streamer claiming Chelsea is getting relegated this season 💀💀 After city got the 2-0 Todd Boehly just gone to search for more players on Transfermarket 😂😂
Thats not normal to get your big break to a big club at 28 after only becoming a pro at 22 then smashing the all time goal scorer record at that club. They dont make them like that anymore. They dont.
A lot of people dont know, but without David Dein, we wouldn't have a premier league. He's that important to english football, such a shame the way he left the Arsenal.
@@GoonerGng yes I do mate. And I know that prices being massively increased for fans and the unique competitiveness of the English league being completely destroyed was not a good thing. Considering he didn’t join Arsenal until he was 28 Wrighty had an amazing career there scoring 128 goals in 221 games and winning the PL, both domestic cups and the European cup winners cup. Only Henry has scored more for them.
The way he casually talks about offering 2.5k wages at league 2 level explains why so many proper traditional clubs are struggling at the lower level and bankrupting themselves.
The player with the dodgy injury record that Gary talks about reducing his wages last minute after the bad medical is surely James Chester? He is in his mid 30’s and recently signed for Salford on a 1 year deal.
Can someone explain that last part regarding the clause in the contract that he had to waive. Was it an agents signing bonus, or his own that the agent put in the contract?

I’ve always wondered about that. It’s still an impressive rise but Saturday football isn’t Sunday league. He was at Greenwich Borough, no?
Thats mind boggling and good on Wrighty. As if he was born way past 9 months as late bloomer.

Utd supporter of 40 years. Without doubt a legend and one of the most talented players England has produced. Thanks for the memories Wrighty.
Ian Wright is an absolute gentleman. As a Spurs supporter Ian was one of my favourites

How unfortunate for you both

2.5k across year with a 25 man squad is £3,250,000. Roughly £4m. That’s more than enough for a league 2 team to afford.
