I feel so bad for the mom who wanted to go school supply shopping. School's a big milestone. In some places, 1st grade is the official start of elementary school. Her partner shrugging off her request and her great disappointment when it was ignored is rough.
I have a sentimental mom and there are things she's definitely weird about (she was upset I junked my car after it was totaled in a car crash, because it had previously been her father's car - not a special car or a classic, just a nice four door that was completely unfixable) - but this is not one I would have begrudged her on. I'm sure I'd feel the same way about a school supply trip for that young of a child.
As a german, the idea of not seeing buying a kids first school supplies as sentimental literally never crossed my mind until today as a kids very first schoolday is heavily celebrated here.
Exactly. I’m also confused that is came out as EHS- how does expecting the father of your child to be considerate to how special something is to someone at all a problem?? He ignored her request several times and then did some of it without her, she’s allowed to feel some kinda way about that!
@@sourgreendolly7685 It came out as ESH because it's not clear that she communicated to him that she specifically wanted to go school supply shopping with him. The fact that she's generally sentimental does not automatically translate to her being sentimental about this - if her husband is not also sentimental, it's honestly not impossible that he didn't realize that that's what her issue was. If he didn't pick up that she wanted to be there and just understood that she was nagging him to get supplies, it makes sense that he would grab supplies at the earliest convenience since he was putting it off.
For anyone else really curious about what the first post was about: OP lost his 3 year old child 1 year ago. OP is very open about the fact he is in therapy about it, but his family are being uncool and have made insinuations that he is in couples therapy cause his wife is not "satisfying him" enough. Then at a birthday party for OPs wife the brother "gave her a baby's romper meant for a newborn boy and an expensive set of lingerie. When she looked at him, he laughed and said that it was to 'motivate her to bring a spark back into the marriage.'" Then OP called brother names like he spelled out in the title, and his family thought he went too far with it.

Favorite thing about aita is that you'll read a title like the chore one and think you know the answer and then be completely blindsided by how the post actually goes
There are two types of posts in aita. Clickbait titles, which are almost always "am I the asshole for (horrible thing)" with the body text explaining it and how it was actually justified; and posts that are obviously in the right, and just looking for likes and for people to call them a good person. Both of these types of posts are often made up anyways
you'll see an aita post where the title is like "AITA for kicking out my boyfriend when he doesn't have any other place to stay?" and then you'll read the post and see that he killed her mother or something
Tbh the gender roles one just perfectly illustrates how ingrained into our daily lives these sort of stereotypes are. This is what we mean by there's a systemic problem.
honestly. And there’s nothing wrong with gender roles if THATS WHAT YOU LIKE! If you personally want to assign yourself “traditional” gender roles? Absolutely all the power to you! But to enforce those on your children and people around you is really gross and wrong. I personally lean to a traditional lifestyle but in the opposite category. I want to be a stay at home father so I don’t miss a second of my kids growing up, a thing a lot of “traditionalists” prefer women to do. How about, get this CRAZY idea I just had, we stop treating children like an on-off responsibility between parents and.. actually treat both parents like responsible human beings that are, highlight, *BOTH EQUALLY* responsible and both EQUALLY the caretaker of their child/children! I hate the whole “dad works/mom works” and the other stays at home with them. Why does there have to be one caretaker only. They(mostly) HAVE two parents for a reason!
For me the school supplies story was NAH UNTIL we saw how the husband threw a hissy fit when the OP was trying to explain how he hurt her feelings. Like at first I thought it was just "Oh different love languages, quality time versus acts of service" but then the husband went and acted like a goddamned toddler about it, talking about how he doesn't want to hear about how he hurt her feelings, honestly massive red flag there.
Lol, leave it to the internet to call a simple argument in a 10 year long relationship a "red flag." She said she got mad at him first. Its pretty natural to get mad back if someone is already escalating things. It should've been something they talked through later though instead of her taking it to a bunch of strangers online though.
@pandaitis0157 they're allowed to explain how you upset them so long as the conversation is calm and you're both simply talking, then her explaining she's mad at you should not be considered "escalating". It's called having a human and adult convo about both of your feelings.
I was mad about a milestone I felt was stolen from me... when my son was born I had to have a csection, and took extra time than anticipated due to complications. He was born at 2pm but I was not stabilized & awake until 4:30pm. My son's father's family was impatient and wanted to visit with the baby and not have to wait for me to wake up first.... so everyone got to spend time with an hold him while I was in recovery. When I woke up & was ready to meet my son & welcome everyone in, my son's dad told me they all already met & held him & they all left the hospital already. I feel only a baby's parents (mom and dad) should be first to hold their baby & have that special moment first, then other family can see the baby. Also these family members he only sees once every 5-6 years, they are not even family he is close with, so that made it more irritating that he gave in to their demand to not have to wait to see the baby. His fam thinks I am overreacting & it is dumb of me for expecting they should have had to wait and it doesnt really matter who holds the baby first. edit: thanks for the supportive comments
If this was an AITA thread I would confidently declare you Not the Asshole. Your feelings as a mother are valid and it sucks that people keep trying to tell you you're overreacting when they couldn't be bothered to wait a couple of hours to hold a baby they seemingly have little interest in visiting nowadays. That was a once in a lifetime moment; they easily could have waited. Sat on their phones and talked for a few hours, it's not that hard. And it's kinda weird to think of the baby visiting with a bunch of strangers as soon as he wakes up with his mother nowhere to be seen; I can't believe no one even considered the stress that could've put a baby that was JUST waking up and recovering through. It was not only thoughtless but also completely irresponsible, and you shouldn't be made to feel like the bad guy for feeling upset by it.
why would extended family camp out at the hospital before the baby was born but not even bother to wait for you to wake up? that's why you don't tell anyone you're in the hospital until the baby is birthed, to avoid weirdos who view you as an incubator and don't care if they're stressing you out or taking from your first moments with your baby, fuck them
When I was a kid picking out my school supplies with my mom was so fun! We would pick out what looked the cutest or coolest- it was a whole thing. I definitely understand the mother, the dad was wrong for that!
that's weird cuz for me it was just shopping. it wasn't something special because it was school, but just family taking me out to shop. I don't get the sentimentalism but I guess it's fine.
Why would it be an issue to the 14M boy to take a home ec class if his only worry is that he doesn’t know how to do things they’ll do in the class? The whole point of the class is to learn. You don’t have to go into the class already knowing how to do anything, that kind of defeats the purpose. As for the grandparents of those kids; simply mowing the lawn isn’t going to make your granddaughter suddenly bulk out. And besides the fact that attractiveness is absolutely not the most important thing, Being strong is not unattractive, heck, I would say it’s the opposite.
Yeah, I hate the whole “muscular women” hatred. Have you SEEN what female bodybuilders look like?? Holy shit. 😳 Now THAT is somebody I wouldn’t mind getting pummeled by. Muscular women are so criminally underrated in our society/preferences. God, do they deserve more love

(I say wimp affectionately. It's a jokey term. I don't wanna imply self-hatred.) Like one of us needs to kill the waterbugs in the house, and it sure as hell can't be me, cause I'll have a panic attack for a few hours and pace while crying before hesitantly, and actively forcing it, forcing myself into the room with a flip flop and the courage of cat near a cucumber. That's not to say I expect everyone tougher to do that, but yeah. I don't have a ton of interest in working out, but I'd love to have someone who does as a partner, it'd incintivize me to do it more often and I'd enjoy it more because THEY enjoy it. It's a win-win. A lot of the people who are afraid to admit it are insecure in their masculinity, and I feel for them, cause they're probably the type to share interests with a more tough and muscular woman. (I.e., working out, sports, all that stuff. I think. Like I said, not my forte largely. I like boxing tho, lol. (watching boxing, I don't box.) That, swimming, and running are about as sporty as I get in terms of interests. Just not the competitive type.) They don't understand women because they're not allowing themselves to be around women who they could understand better with interests and hobbies. It's kinda sad.

@@pandaitis0157 Nah having a fit that your wife has emotions is a red flag
@@DeathnoteBB having emotions, and getting mad at you and directly escalating a simple situation aren't the same
@pandaitis0157 they're allowed to explain how you upset them so long as the conversation is calm and you're both simply talking, then her explaining she's mad at you should not be considered "escalating".
That is AWFUL that’s an absolute ambush and I would feel robbed of such an important moment, Christ I, scared at his apathy
why would extended family camp out at the hospital before the baby was born but not even bother to wait for you to wake up? that's why you don't tell anyone you're in the hospital until the baby is birthed, to avoid weirdos who view you as an incubator and don't care if they're stressing you out or taking from your first moments with your baby, fuck them
You could have torn their tracheas out with your bare hands and I still wouldn’t call you the asshole in that situation
Also, they didn't care to stick around and make sure you were okay? You are not in the wrong. I'm sorry this happened to you. ❤️

Oh God, Jordan has a soundboard! He's reached a power level never before seen! It's too late for us! He's now unstoppable!
I mean she's 16, no adult should be concerned with how "attractive" she is, that's so gross...
Yeah, I hate the whole “muscular women” hatred. Have you SEEN what female bodybuilders look like??
Holy shit. 😳
Now THAT is somebody I wouldn’t mind getting pummeled by. Muscular women are so criminally underrated in our society/preferences. God, do they deserve more love
@@clownrat5759 And to be fair, as someone who thinks muscular women are rather attractive, like, to act as though no one will find her attractive if she is muscular is a bit incorrect. I mean, like you said, criminally underrated, and def get more shit from manosphere nutjobs, but like, we aren't lacking in men (and women and enbies) who find muscular women attractive per se. Just, lacking in people willing to admit they find it attractive. At least imo.

I love women who are a bit tougher, cause I can be a wimp in a lot of ways.

So while it's always in theory temporary, many people might still feel the need to clarify.
For a while, my mom no longer could use stairs (Honestly, she still can't safely) and had to move out of her home and live in an accessible hotel while she recovered, and then had to stay for a few months because the pandemic started and we needed to isolate.
After that, was given an eviction because the landlord was pissed she was looking for other places without stairs (He found out before she had given a notice, so it was a "You're not quitting you're fired!!" situation, but with housing) so the hotel was very literally her home until she could find somewhere else to live.
