    All of the perfection of digital signal processing these days, and what makes the track sound 'nice' is the noise, distortion, reduced dynamic range and saturation from an analogue tape recording.

    • @mrdrgonzo
      @mrdrgonzo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Same with photography, trying to recreate that analogue feel with filters and such. I’ve a £3,500 Sony camera which I put a filter on the front of the lens to stop it being as sharp and have that film look 😂

    Hi. Chicago House Head here. I have danced to this so many time. And your channel with this track came up in the algorithm because I was listening to t he original. Your breakdown was fun. And like you I prefer the vocal version. And you're 100% correct in that the tape sound makes the biggest difference! I'm not into this producing thing but thought I'd give it a watch. We sometimes get over protective, us old school folks, and I wanted to make sure it was being represented correctly. LOL Much respect! I did remember that in the U.K. House took off big time back in the 80's. It's so wonderful to see it still alive in some form across the pond.
    Cheers!

    Such an amazing track, some of the most incredible moments in my life were spent dancing to this, it evokes memories of my late brother and I just grinning at eachother lost in the sound :( A melancholy tune for me now, I love, it brings me joy mixed with with a little sadness, amazing track.

  • @AutPen38

    I've tried remaking this several times. One of the problems I initially had is that several of the releases (and TH-cam versions) are "out of tune", as they appear to have been sped up. I think Larry played it in A minor, but the master was varispeeded up so the released version is halfway between A and A sharp. So whenever I tried to play along to the reference track, mine always seemed too "dull" and off key. Larry's drums are also about 50 cents sharper than typical 909 samples which makes them sound a bit more cutting.

    A classic. Thanks for breaking this down. The honest simplicity of the time makes the track a tune, the basic technology and the tapes give the tune some style and signature but it’s those simple chords that give it it’s charming almost sorrowful Detroit beauty. It’s the man as much as his machines.

    brilliant. id love to seem more of these classic rave era ones but possibly going deeper into the rabbit hole as it were. when people mention "classic house" you always get the same tracks that appear on compilations but rarely mentioned are the tracks that reall glued those dj sets together back in the day that dont get much credit. it would also be cool to see a hole thread of producer specific breakdowns like kevin saundersons work and for a uk twist how about baby ford.?
    edit: also how about new fast automatic daffodils "big" jon dasilva mix

      I'm pretty sure the low 'A' isn't played so the progression would be CMaj7 / FMaj7 / Emin7 - but as you have said, the 1st chord ( CMaj7 ) is in 2nd inversion and played as G/B/C/E - it's a pretty common progression and if you play keyboard, it makes sense as the fingers ( no pun intended ) have little work to do. Great vids btw @GyuBeats. Subbed. :)

    Interesting, thanks.
    For me it would be even more interesting to see & hear it done on an actual physical Juno synthesiser & 909 drum machine. So, if anyone has done such a thing, please reply with a link to it. I'm very curious! 🙂

    The tape is brilliant. It homogenizes the sound and somewhat gates a lot of the frequencies. - And it _actually_ made it sound like the original. Only after that step did it sound right.
