When I was a DJ at my student Union (late 90s, early 00s), I always ended the night with this. It's a perfect ending as everyone is clearing out of the bar
I've heard this as the last tune of so many nights - from hardcore raves in the 90s to house nights and after parties in the 2020s - never gets old
It was the last tune at our wedding, that was pretty special
Got back into Orbital again recently... Lush 3-1 into 3-2. Sublime.

It was never intended to be mixed out of.
It was always intended to be the last song of the nite.
Orbital winding down the BPM was their way of saying this.

Yeah you might be right. I also think that Orbital make pieces of music, not just 'dancefloor' tracks, so they're not so concerned with things like that. Thanks btw!
You can mix out of it perfectly if you know what you are doing - there is a moment the tempo reverts back but not all the drums are back in the pattern - listen to Saha execute it perfectly back in 1991 on the mix th-cam.com/video/DUwjibFudGA/w-d-xo.html at 21.30 mins in - he mixes in the Shaker Song that uses the same drum sounds that bounce off each other and compliment the transision from one track to the next. I used to mix Last Rhythm out if it and that worked great too
Couple of belfast mixes released as part of 30 something album are phenomenal. ANNA ambient remix, Yotto remix, David Holmes remix. Breathtaking.
The vocals is from the gothic composer and abbess Hildegard of Bigen's "o cuchari'. Orbital's Belfast is music that once heard has never left.

What an absolute classic. I first heard this on the film human traffic and it summed up the morning after a really great night out.
This is the track which made me fall in love with electronic music when I was at high school, one night listening to the radio in the 90s...

Absolutely "less is more". Even when I grew up making music in the 90s ``limited" by the gear I had, not so long ago I fell into the trap of adding too many sounds on my tracks, because I have more gear and tons of VST and I never liked the mix. It was super busy, like a crowd of instruments fighting to find a place, and at that moment was when I realized that all these beautiful tracks were made with less instruments and that's why you can listen to this records again and again without ear fatigue, so now I´m working only with the minimal sounds I need, and usually turning off more things in the mix, and it sounds much better. Thanks for the video! It's helpful to break down these tracks to understand why they sound so good.
Dude I’m dance music less is more. The kick and bass should work all on their own. Then add the tasty bits!

YES!!! FSOL in general are in general extremely underrated. Fully agree on Papua New Guinea

Absolute bliss of a track
An early morning favorite. The Sasha Vs The Light Remix of this classic is an absolute monster as well.
It's such an iconic tune. I remember Pete Tong playing it as a tribute when Back2Basics DJ Ali Cooke died back in 1993.

Nice breakdown! Despite the apparent simplicity, the loping 909 pattern and the polymeters (3 and 5 against 4) give it a richness and subtlety that suit the emotional vocals. It’s nice to see that Orbital are still making great tracks: their latest collaboration with Sleaford Mods (Dirty Rat) was released just a few days ago and it’s an absolute banger.

Another great breakdown Guy and a really good recreation of this seminal Orbital track. You really got the essence of what makes this a beautiful track for me, and what makes Paul such a genius - making complex arrangements using simple instruments. His use of overlapping offbeat rhythms is Orbital's signature and is instantly recognisable.

Real oldskool classic ive still got it on record when woolworths were in the high street and sold vinyl. Those that remember that brilliant shop. Its definitely a beautiful mellow minimum paced track.

Alright pal!? Brilliant as your usual self I see...couple of questions. Where's your gaff in the UK? if I come overseas again to visit my brother we'll take you for a pint of lager. And if you ever get time can you have a go at The Chemical Brothers, Galaxy Bounce or Hoops. I also noticed that sometimes when you hit a certain groove, you make an almost duck like face...Bwahaahaaa, I know l make the same face.....and I know that feeling....wouldn't change it for the world. Keep it up pal, you do inspire and educate the masses.
Amazing recreation once again. This 5 bars in 4 loop tho, I’m fairly certain it varies and sometimes it’s 5, sometimes it’s 6 bars. You can clearly hear it at the end when it’s slowed down. Hands down tho, love your work and I’m curious to see more
