I really recommend this kit, it has worked 100% on my failing Navman display which is now restored to full functionality. Follow Tom's excellent written instructions supplied in the repair kit, and/or watch his video and you shouldn't go wrong. I am in the UK and the kit arrived here less than a week after placing an order so a very prompt service. Big thumbs-up for a very cost-effective repair.👍👍👍
Thank for the goods. It took me about 5 hrs to assemble 5 units, fix them and then dissemble to the boat. All units worked whitout adjustment. I can strongly recomend this.
All my Navman instruments failed within a few years. I was so glad I kept them instead of tossing them in the trash. Just before spending a lot of money on new Speed, Depth and Repeater instruments from whomever(which would require replacing transducers as well, $$$) I found your video here. I ordered your repair kits and was so happy to see my displays working again after installing the zebra connectors. Your video is very well done, and the repair kit and printed instructions are excellent. You saved me a lot of money and I could not be happier. Great job Tom ! HIGHLY RECOMMEND to anyone watching.
Thomas, thanks to your excellent video and the DIY kit, I was able to perform this repair on my Navman 3100 Multi in about an hour. It would have taken less than 30 minutes had I remembered to bring along my dremel tool. The fix was perfect! My Navman is back in action.
This worked fantastically. The Zebra Ploy connector makes this a very forgiving process. One minor change, I had better results slicing 1mm off the "top" edge of the new connector. My Unit is the Northstar version of the Navman 3100 multi. The instructions were easy to understand. I am very pleased.
As advertised !! I followed the quality instructions and replaced the OEM ribbon cable in a Navman SPEED 3100 with the elastomeric doo-dad supplied in the kit, and the display is operating 100% again. Awesome. I agree with other comments - I used a dremel tool with a grinding wheel to carefully grind the plastic housing, which made that part of the process a no-brainer.
I just fixed my Navman 3200 display with your kit and video. Satisfying to say the least. Thank you !!! The tricky part was to gently squeeze the connector so that all pixels became visible.
Thank you Tom for this excellent video. I got the kit in 3 days and my Navman Depht 3100 will soon be repaired. Bravo for this impeccable service! To recommend! Christophe, since the France.
I was amazed. This works and works well. I have 5 screens that would have cost big bucks to replace and for such a simple repair. Kind regards to you Tom.
Yep, this works, I just did a 3100 Multi repair. I did have to do one additional thing, though. Note that you can't test your repair until it's assembled because the connector relies on the pressure from the cover on the screen to make good contact. I found that I still had a couple of spots on the LCD that didn't work, but if I pressed on the instrument face they came on. So, I put a few strips of electrical tape on the cover in the inside opposite where the zebra connector is located to create more pressure when the cover is on and voila! works great.
First of all, many thanks to Thomas Stevens for his excellent and exhaustive video. I've tried to repair this way my Navman Multi 3100, it has been working perfectly for some months, then when the weather started to be colder, the failure of digits appeared again. Unfortunately in the next summer the problem continued in spite of warm weather. In order to find a possible reason I remark that: a) the elastomer - which I pick up from a LCD display donor - is 7 mm wide so that when you put it between the circuit board and the screen, maybe there's not enough pressure over the contacts; a) I was suggested not to use acetone to clean the contacts (too strong someone told me), I used alcohol, and actually, after a better observation there's some residual glue debris from the ribbon cable. I would appreciate suggestions from all of you.
your video is excelent, i need to say that I have same issue with identical device, but this ZEBRA conecttor is somehow imposible to order one piece, so Im asking you do you have specification for this zebra conecettor, or do u have one piece for sell ...thank you in advance Denis
will this also work for the Navman 3150 wind direction and speed where speed is a small lcd. Also is there anywhere to get a replacement screen? I have one that is discolored black.
Man thanks Tom. Merci pour cette explication très claire. Il reste maintenant à trouver l'élastomère ad hoc (largeur 8 mm) qui puisse servir de connecteur... et à passer à l'exécution.
before I open up this 3100S depth. I understand the Zebra connector doesn't work with the 3100S only the 3100. What is the solution for the 3100S then ?
Unfortunately, the only solution is a new instrument. Advansea/Plastimo offers a depth instrument in their 400 series which is compatible with the transducer.
@@thomasstevens5610 thanks Thomas, the S400 displays are around $400. Thats not an option. I haven't opened the 3100S. Its my buddy's boat not mine so I have to be careful what I get myself into. I understand the sensor is 200 khz. Is this because there is a different connection between lcd and circuit board ?
The LCD is hardwired to the PCB. It should have been a better connection than the ribbon connector. I have checked and I do not have a used instrument available. If I come across something that I feel will work for you, I will let you know.
@@thomasstevens5610 thanks, Defender sells the small Faria depth instruments with transducer for under $200 and I think the clipper depth is close too. Darn, would have been nice to just change the connector. I was really happy until I saw your note that this doesn't apply to the 3100S. Anyhow, good you put this info out and also the note. cheerio !!!!
I did some more digging around and have two possible solutions for you. One is a used NorthStar Depth which is essentially the same as the NavMan. It appears to simply need the Zebra connector. I would be $200. The other option is a brand new NavMan Repeat 3100s. The instrument itself is basically "dumb" in that it just displays data generated from another instrument. You would have to leave the existing instrument in the circuit and then put the Repeat in the opening that the current instrument occupies. The Repeat would then display the data generated by the old depth instrument.
Hi! I wanted to repair my Navman Multi 3100 and Wind 3100 after they sadly quit their function over this winter… Where can und Go for this Zebra connector and which one do i need exactly to buy? Hope that anyone could help me here 😊 Many greetings from Germany!
Your two units each require a 58 mm connector kit. I can ship those to you in Germany. If you will send a shipping address, I will quote you a price. The two kits will be $65 and then the shipping will be extra. Thanks for your inquiry, Tom Stevens. thomas.stevens@ cox.net

can these connectors be cut?
Yes for the length. That is to say that a 58mm connector could be cut into 2 29mm connectors for example.
Great..! Thank you.
or would you fix the unit for us?
email me at thomas.stevens@cox.net and we can discuss your options. I can repair or provide a repair kit.
I cannot get my emails through to Tom. Has the email address changed?
