@@SWFBeachLife we lived in Port St Lucie for 12 years from 83 to 95. We loved it. We built our house there and have kept it all these years. So we could come back when my husband retired. Like I said before we are so excited.
Great finds during this trip to the beach. Loved the crown conch and the purplish Florida fighting conch. The critters were awesome. 3 different types of crabs...the blue crab was the prettiest. I've seen spider crabs and blue crabs many times but I've never seen a mottled crab. Great sea star. Now I know there is an app for tides. Thanks. That was nice to learn as well
Wasn't that blue crab gorgeous? I was so glad I took the chance and picked him up. And that tide app makes my beach plans so much easier! I hope you find it helpful as well!
I am so glad you are naming some of the more common shells. I can name most of the shells you pick up and name. But not so much the white common shells. THANKS❤. You always help with learning the shells names and interesting information about them. Have you started your class that you talked about taking. Thanks again for passing along your great information. You are the best, I have watched most of your videos more than once or twice.
Oh how I loved our walk today!! I get so excited each time we go. I have to tell my short story of our trip to the Outter banks. I was digging in the sand and found the very small pretty shells. I had no idea if there was someone was home or not. I was not familiar with this tiny shell and just assumed it was ok to take so I put some in a baggie. I believe they are called a “coquina”. After we got back to our room I noticed they were moving around. So my husband took them back to the waters edge. I felt so much better after that
Those were probably coquina shells. If they are closed with the 2 sides together, it's likely that someone was home. You did the right thing to bring them back to the beach! I'm sure they felt as good about it as you did :) Thanks for sharing your story and thank you for coming on my beach walks with me!
Another fantastic video! I also watch The Fish Locker on TH-cam and learned from him that male crabs tend to have narrow undersides while females are super wide underneath, aka space for the eggs 🥰
I checked out that channel and I think I've watched him before too! I wasn't brave enough to turn that crab over, but I know exactly what you're talking about - I know those shapes too! Thanks so much for coming along with me!!

Oh I edited and scheduled the video before my little "trip away" and now I hope I'll be okay to get out there once I run out of content. I can always put out a video about frail people shelling - lol!

Hi- nice walk! Here in Cleveland Ohio it was cold cold ! About 18* today. The sun peeked out in the afternoon. Nice sunset. I love baby’s ears! They are so white and smooth. I just think they’d be nice to hold( like a rubbing stone). I heard someone call the shark eyes that are blue Paul Newman’s Eyes. You showed 2 nice ones . The little one was so cute. I really like shark eyes and gaudy nautica, too. Lots of critters. I saw a video of an Aussie youngun show his collection. He buys a lot of shells. Which kinds bummed me out. It’s so much more impressive to see what people find. Do you buy shells for your collection?
I have heard of those Paul Newman Shark eyes! I keep forgetting to look further into that. I personally do not buy shells. I have been gifted some shells which are very special to me, but I have not purchased any. I think I really like the challenge of finding the shells so for now I'll continue to search for shells to add to my collection. Thank you so much for watching!
How is the weather? Freezing where we are in Omaha. I dream of coming down to spend time shell searching. Thanks for sharing the app. That is exacting a question I had. Always love watching!
I just checked the temp and its in the low 80s right now. Our "winter" is over! Trying to figure out the tides drove me crazy! Happy to pass along all the tricks I'm learning along the way :) Thank you for watching!
Hey! I learned something! Brittle stars are what those are? The day I found all those good shells on Honeymoon I saw a couple of those as well! I've never seen that big of a mass of sea pork. That was huge! Yeah, those little guys are speckled ceriths - about the same size as wentletraps though. Very funny! Hard to be quiet, huh? Does no one else walk that far south at Ft Meyers beach? Nice spiny jewelbox! Beautiful crab! How big was he? I've never seen one like that. That one urchin looked like he was wearing those glasses with the nose!😂 Pretty nice sized pear whelk! You saw a blue crab too! I rescued one the other day. It had more of that bright aqua blue though. Thanks for putting out this video!
Yes, others do walk down to the end of FMB but I'm not sure where they're coming from. There are some condos on the south end so people certainly would have good access if they lived/are staying in one of those properties. If I lived down there I'd never come off the beach!!! That blue crab was a pretty good size - I'd say maybe 5" wide or so. I'm so happy he was friendly enough to let me just check him out and put him back without incident! Thanks so much for watching Ginger! xoxoxo
Ok just finished this. Very nice. I will have to get that app. I have one called Tides Near Me and I haven't opened it in a year. Opened it the other day and it's terrible. It used to have a map but now it's gone and it's so plain and harder to work. They made tons of changes all for the worse. Very disappointed and will be deleting it. I'm so glad you showed this one because this is way better and agree the maps ara extremely important. You picked up the blue crab the correct way. It's tricky but yes if you get them from the back they can't bite you. It's very pretty.
That blue crab was very pretty wasn't he? Oh the tides would drive me crazy until I finally figured them out. They get SO low down here in the winter. So much more beach to explore! Hope you have a great week!
Really enjoy your beach shelling videos. I have a question. We go to Sanibel one a year for a week for vacation and I was wanting to visit Lovers Key and a couple of others next time we come down to find a few shells. Are there places to lark that are only a very short distance to the beach. I have to bring a beach chair to rest every so often and was wanting to go where it’s not a king haul to the shells. Can you tell me if the best places to go? Thank you Cynthia
Lover's Key offers great beach access. There is a trolley that will bring you right to the beach to cut down on your walking distance. As with any beach, there is no guarantee that there will be shells right where you are looking but I've had good luck at Lover's Key where the trolley brings you. If you have trouble finding parking in the first lot, ask someone to drop you at the trolly stop. Hopefully you can go shelling right from where you're staying on Sanibel too :)
Really enjoyed the beach walk with you. ANd the information i gained about shells i have previously found was wonderful. Thank you for that. We live in central Ohio and have been down to the Clearwater area and enjoy going to Fort DeSoto. We didn't get to go this winter due to sickness. I would like to try to go to Sanibel Island to shell hunt. What is the best motel area to stay at?
I have never stayed on Sanibel! Since I live so close I normally drive. I have partnered with a company that manages properties on Sanibel and Captiva if you wanted to give them a try. They probably won't be the cheapest, however they will be able to guide you to the perfect locations/home for your stay. If you do reach out to them, tell them SWF Beach Life recommended them! www.breakawayvacationproperties.com
@@sideikleberry2272 I am a big fan of Fort Myers Beach. Great beach and depending on where you stay there are tons of shopping and restaurants to walk to. I usually do my own research and use AirBnB but I’ve worked with the folks at jpsfmb.com too.
I've heard Delaware has lovely beaches too! Not so sure about shells and critters but I hope you can at least get to the beach once in a while. Thank you so much for watching!
@@SWFBeachLife it’s not one of the better beaches in Delaware . But I live like a 5 minute or so walk from the beach... Just we tend to get a lot of beach erosion. . But still nice. Take care.
Cool finds as always! I think the brittle star at 11:13 is what is known as Ophiolepis elegans (not sure of the common name). The shell at 17:11 is definitely not a wentletrap. Just a flyspeck cerith, but they do have a pretty similar shape yet different texture. A wentletrap of that size would be a beast! Also, any luck finding shells after the storm that came through recently?
Yeah, that cerith shell is clearly not what I was looking for :) And I believe you are right! That's a Rosette-scaled brittle star. I did manage to get out on the beach last Tuesday, and it was a ton of fun! I was trying to time my visit with low tide but in retrospect I wish I had just gotten on the beach early. I still found lots of great stuff though. Did you get out there and find anything good?
@@SWFBeachLife Cool! No, I did not get out there sadly. I did hear of someone finding a perfect 3 inch queen helmet on Sanibel so it must have been pretty good! I do have lots of recent videos filmed though which I will be uploading in the coming weeks and months. I've been bogged down with other things, but I am planning a trip to Europe over the summer. Might be able to do some shelling/exploring there but my plans are still pretty hazy.
@@shellstories Wow! Shelling in Europe would be amazing! Shoot, I get excited when I drive an hour to see a new beach. I didn’t hear about the queen helmet but boy am I jealous! Good for them!
All those crabs! 😮. We are about an hour and a half from Ft Myers and haven't been there yet. Is the beach large? What part do you shell at? I can't wait till I find a Rose Petal.. so pretty and my granddaughter loves the pink shells.
Fort Myers Beach is about 7 miles long so there is PLENTY of beach! I normally shell at the South end of the island, but I've found decent shells anywhere from mid-island to the South end. During season the traffic getting over the bridge can be brutal so make sure you get here early! There are $3/hour beach access lots along the beach that you can park at.
@@debralee5201 I try to get to the beach as early as possible. Lately I’ve been timing it with the tides but I find being first in the beach helps a bit too!
The "wentletraps cerith" is probably a fly-speck cerith. They have a rib pattern that is wentletrap-like but is overall bumpier than wentletraps that are smooth between and on the ribs. www.shellmuseum.org/post/2017/04/21/the-fly-speck-cerith
Yeah, I figured it wasn't a wentletrap but I was really hoping. Now that we've actually seen one I think we might actually find one! I don't think I realized how tiny they are. Thank you for sending that info over!
I saw a piece of it! Holy carpet of shells! It looked impressive but it's totally possible there weren't a lot of keepers. At least that what I kept telling myself - LOL! Have a great week!
I saw that and went back to the original video and can't tell if it's really a little sand dollar or a shell with some dark markings. Either way there was a bunch of beachyness going on in that tunicate!

Isn't that sea pork crazy weird looking? Not the pretties animal on the beach for sure :) Thanks for coming along with me!
Home bound. Thank you....Thank you...Thank you. So relaxing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
My naturalist classes start in a few weeks. I can't wait to learn more about these glorious beaches!
I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos… I find them very interesting and very informative …
Thank you very much!
Definitely a brittle star! So cute!
Snow in Va again today! Thanks so much for the “ beachy goodness”!
Stay warm! Thanks for coming along with me!
OH so happy to see you post again. I will edit my comment or make a new one once I finish the video. Long videos take me a long time to get through. I hope you are doing well. I have sent you two emails since last we talk. I know you must be busy so take your time but I'm just glad to see an update.
Oh I edited and scheduled the video before my little "trip away" and now I hope I'll be okay to get out there once I run out of content. I can always put out a video about frail people shelling - lol!
Thanks 4 sharing i always enjoy ur beach walks, God Bless👍
Thanks for watching! Hope you have a great week!
So relaxing walking on the beach with you, watching from Cincinnati ohio, just love the beach,I lived in Florida when I was young, love it there❤😁😀
Thanks for coming along with me! I meet so many people from OH down here. I lived in Cincinnatti for a bit when I was young and visited every summer through my teens. King's Island was the highlight of our trips there! And Coney Island was fun too. Hope you have a great week!
Beautiful Day! Fun Times 😍 Thank u for sharing Ft. Myers.🤗 HUGE welk, thought u might want to see Wild Kyle. 🤔🥰
I've seen some of Wild Kyle's adventures. I was dying when he went looking for fossil shells and found huge ones in a creek. Good stuff for sure!
woooow the shells over in america are so fun to look at. great video! hello from scotland!
it’s so exciting!! thank you for sharing
Hello Scotland!! We do have some pretty neat shells over here and I happen to live in a fantastic area to find them. I'm learning so much along the way and I love sharing my discoveries. Thank you so much for coming along with me on my beach walk!
Lovely walk this week. It makes lockdown easier to cope with. Thank you so much
Ugh lockdown. I'm glad I can at least get you to the beach virtually. Stay safe! xoxo
You’re video came at the perfect time. It’s -8 degrees here with a -21 windchill. Awesome finds! 🐚
Brrrrrr! Thanks for watching my beach walk and stay warm!
@@SWFBeachLife only 12 more days!
Great walk on the beach! Only 8 more Sunday videos and I will be in Sanibel.
Hang in there - you're almost there! I hope you have your shell list all ready and you find everything you're looking for!
Surf clam...great night light craft 😊
Pen shells and apple snails too!
Thanks so much for watching Ginger! xoxoxo

Love the beach tree
Love the mottled crab
Always look forward to your videos:)
Glad you like them! I appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment!
What great finds!! Enjoyed so much!❤️
Thanks so much!
That shell at 11:03 would make a beautiful pendant against a flat piece of dark MOP.
Great video as always! I hope you are doing well. :)
Thanks Corey! I hope everything in CA is good for you too! Have a great week!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Hope you have a great week!
those rose petal shells are so pretty.
A little splash of pink makes any beach walk more fun :) Thanks for coming along with me!!! xoxox
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was definitely crab day 🦀
It sure was! Thank you for watching!
Another amazing video. I am learning so much from all your videos.
Do you know the address of this parking lot on Marco?
There's only 2 public lots so it's not hard to find!
930 S Collier Blvd, Marco Island, FL 34145

@@SWFBeachLife thank you do much! We would only get a 2 day stay. Is there one beach area better than another? Thanks again!!
@@sideikleberry2272 I am a big fan of Fort Myers Beach. Great beach and depending on where you stay there are tons of shopping and restaurants to walk to. I usually do my own research and use AirBnB but I’ve worked with the folks at jpsfmb.com too.
@@SWFBeachLife I will check them out. My only mission is to find shells. Not into shopping or restaurants. Thanks again for the information!
I love the beach. I live in woodland beach area Delaware..
You’ve inspired me to do a Nanaimo bc version
I'm not sure what that means but I hope its something good :)
@@SWFBeachLife what time of day do you usually go or do you just go at low tide?
@@debralee5201 I try to get to the beach as early as possible. Lately I’ve been timing it with the tides but I find being first in the beach helps a bit too!
my favourite from this vid was the lightning whelk piece that tricked you
Thank you :-)
You are welcome!
Blue crab was handsome
Wasn't he pretty?
Would love to buy some shells ? Any idas. From Washington state.love the Florida..shells!
Shoot me an email at swfbeachlife@gmail.com. I do sell some of my goodies and I'll give you the details ☺️
@@SWFBeachLife thank you ever so much..
Wonder how many colors of Jingles there are?
I've found white, yellow, orange, black and gray. I actually pick up a whole bunch and talk a little about them in tonight's video :)
Just what part of ft Myers beach are you at
I like the South part of the island - like near The Outrigger and south all the way to the end of the island.
That sea pork looks more like intestines...erk
I know! Aren't they just the weirdest?
Obsessed 😍
Thank you!!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Did you see Shell Seekers Tour video??? OMGosh...PILES of shells....I was having FOMO so bad.
I saw a piece of it! Holy carpet of shells! It looked impressive but it's totally possible there weren't a lot of keepers. At least that what I kept telling myself - LOL! Have a great week!
There was a baby sand dollar stuck in that sea pork
I saw that and went back to the original video and can't tell if it's really a little sand dollar or a shell with some dark markings. Either way there was a bunch of beachyness going on in that tunicate!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💖💖
