People keep nitpicking the sigma, but its literally $1000 cheaper than the sony, thats another lens you could buy with that savings, or money for a trip somewhere or just spending on anything you want
I think people just bringing certain aspects to people attention so they know before buying. It is a huge price difference which is why I recommend this lens. I made your exact point in one of my previous videos about what else you could guy for that price difference! It's crazy ⚡
@@CurtisPadley Yeah I don’t double people for judging it and if it doesn’t suite your needs by all means go random or don’t but I think this is the best 70-200 for the price for the small inconveniences
Hello, as someone still not commited to the mirrorless with not unlimited budget,I wonder, how would Sigma 70-200 DG DN compare to: 1) older Sigma 70-200 DG OS HMS? Plenty of those on used market for reasonable price. And how would it compare to Sony 70-200 GM? (first edition), again a lot of them on used market and also could be found new in few shops at simmilar prices as new Sigma?
I got this lens a month ago, it is sharp and all, but at the max zoom of 200mm image gets a bit soft, but it's not too bad. As for AF performance, it's solid, but not as solid as other sigmas I have (maybe it's just my unit)...
For sports like ping pong, hockey, soccer, ultimate frisbee, baseball, and all... do you also recommend sigma? I have a Sony A7 IV and I'm very hesitant about which lens to buy, if I save a little more for the Sony or if I take sigma and buy another lens for the family portrait/photo! Thank you very much in advance for the reply and sorry for my English🙏
i also have a similar question. The lens though, is too small for my liking and has a weird round hood. But what throws me off the most is that manual control of focus and aperture are all digitally operated so if the lens loses the ability to control either of the two you are basically helpless. If you want to mistreat the lens, go for the GM V1, it's autofocus is slow when searching (slightly faster to respond than G 70200 SSM II but slightly slower to travel) but it will latch onto target in all dimensions. Also, the GM V1 IBIS is much better than that on the V2 for some weirdass reason. I want the Sigma for the optics and flexibility, but having too many servo operated motors scares me for the long run. I am going to go for the GM V1 very probably.
The lens hood is not supposed to be used backwards, so that's not a design flaw that it blocks the zoom ring. As you mentioned, you put it on backwards for storage. What does appear to be a design flaw is how it partially blocks the zoom ring when it is on the right way.
You can use the Sony 70-200 F2.8 II zoom ring when the lens hood is on for storage. When it's on correctly it doesn't block zoom ring, that I can confirm. 👍
I brought canon version in 5 yrs back in lower price than Sony. I have tried with mc11 n it works flawlessly on both photos and videos for wedding & events . Only one thing I don't like - weight. It's really huge n very heavy .
If U guys want the wildlife with this lens, forget it. Get the Tamron 70-300 4,5 6,3, with Apsc like A6700 is good for wildlife, this lens I think it’s for Mid range potrait maybe. And sport with short distance 😅
The dimensions of this Sigma really scare me) This lens is as much as 500 grams heavier than the Tamron 70-180 of the second version. That's a huge difference in weight. Although the image quality on Tamron is not much inferior, in the end your kit is much lighter.
Great review. But personally, both the zoom ring placement and the hood overlap are deal breakers for me. It may seem petty but I’m horribly OCD on those things. Which is a shame - I was really considering picking one of these up because I’m stupefied by the sharpness of my sigma art lenses. I will say that I almost seriously considered ignoring my ocd on the zoom ring and hood issue due to that ARCA compatible mount on the tripod foot. But then the frustrating part is the tripod mount is only removable using actual tools. The one other issue I have is the fact that I can’t use a teleconverter with non-Sony lenses. I’ve heard people argue the sharpness loss - but in my testing and observation there’s absolutely minimal sharpness loss with the TC20 and the 70-200 GM Ii. So for a few hundred bucks extra (the TC2) the GM II now doubles as a 70-200 f2.8 and a 140-400 f5.6. That’s kinda hard to beat…
Three videos about one lens? OK, I’ll give you this one, Curtis. Clever animated text. My guess is that Sigma designers believe few people will want to remove the foot - at least not often. (Couldn’t resist the “screw loose” gag, eh?😊) How often do you remove the foot, in practice? Cheers!

Thanks for the review. Did you ever manage to test it out on an APS-C body to see how it performs?
You're welcome! Unfortunately not but sigma have said I can have that lens back if I wanted in the future, so stay tuned! 🚀
@@CurtisPadley very much interested using this lens with an a6700
Is Sigma going to make an aps-c sized equivalent of this lens? To complete the 2.8 aps-c trio of zoom lenses.
@@Mzakhri I am actually waiting for a review of the sony a6700 + sigma 70-200 f2.8
I have 2 Sigma lenses the 150-600 Sport and the 28-45 f1.8 Art and love them both , this lense could fill the gap between to 2 nicely
Thumbs up for you. Norwegian Post have a update for me this moment. I get mine tomorrow. Halleluja.
I’ve been waiting for this review because I’m having trouble making decision which one even though the huge price difference
Nice video, Lenses for APS-C camera. Sigma 10-18mm f2.8; Sigma 18-50mm f2.8. we just miss the Sigma 50-200mm for APS-C camera :)

For me weight matters, so I took the Tamron 70-180 G2. If I would do fast Sports, I would take the Sony G2.
For me there's too many compromises with the build (as mentioned here) and fps to justify buying this over the GM1 or GM2.
The hood alone is such a dealbreaker to consider downgrading to save some money
Sony a6400 and sigma 70-200 2.8 good for motorsports?

It's still cheaper to get the sigma 70-200mm and sigma 150-600 compared to the Sony 70-200mm and tc.
There will be sigma teleconverters coming
Thank you for making up my mind on wether I should get it. Ill tell them to get you a cut on when i buy it xD ;)
Glad it was helpful! I await for my check from Sigma 😂😂

I took it off on day one, lol
A phone camera still can't compete with a DSLR system. It's close, but not quite there.
Lets be real. The sigmas biggest issue is that it is not white 😂
In Australia Sony 70-200 GMii is a little bit cheaper than this sigma 70-200
Don’t think that lol Maybe you mean the F4 version 🙈Sony 2.8 here in Austria 3000€ 🤣
my dude your links are kinda broken
Working fine for me, would you be able to advice which ones so I can take a look at it 😁 thanks for bringing it to my attention 👍
Yeah it was just your "whats in my camera bag" links. Specifically the drone and POV chest mount@@CurtisPadley
NEW PFP
The tripod foot design is stupid. I didn't think anyone would still do that in 2024.
You’re saying the Sigma is £1000 cheaper but you can get a brand new Sony 70-200 gm2 for £1800.
That's surprising, based on amazon prices and other similar retailers they all selling at £2500 roughly 👀
Where the heck are you finding it for $1800?
😂 bull shit….
@@martinpickard5818 Nope, it's not...
Here the Sigma 1700€ and the Sony 2990€ 🙈🤣Maybe he mean the F4 lol
It’s wayyy to expensive here in aus not much more to buy the gm2
Ahhh really? That sucks 😕
@@CurtisPadley gm2 is only $300 more aud so maybe 150£
