You should be able to fit a card between the licker in and drum teeth. It sounds like your teeth are intermeshing. You would get enter results with a bit more space.

Hi, been watching your videos for few months now as trying to process alpaca and I like the information you put in your videos, very informative! you are one of my few likes and saves. wondering, I have not seen anywhere information about how far the licor roller should be away from the big roller, if too close, all the fibres stick to it, too far and does not pick up anything wondering if you could help

Hi Tashia, I was wondering if I can use alpaca fleece as a duvet stuffing instead of lambs wool? Do you think that the alpaca fleece will just end up a felted clump in each cell over time or would it remain viable? I hope my question made sense to you lol. Cheers Craig
Hi Craig, I think it would clump. I’d recommend using sheets of felted alpaca. It doesn’t need to be thick to be warm! And it’ll be more lightweight than lamb’s wool.

Do you have a tutorial for how you make your dryer balls? I am not sure I’m at a time/place in my life to sit and spin. (I have lots of little running around and a spinning wheel with little fingers seems dangerous). I do however think I can make dryer balls with them around 😅

can I card and spin dirty alpaca then wash it
You certainly can, but it won’t come out as clean. Some of that dirt will be trapped by the twist. Plus you’ll have dirt and VM all over your equipment.
You are not keeping the cut end and the not cut end going the same direction, are you? Is this because it is alpaca fiber and unlike wool, keeping the diriction root to tip is not important? Please correct me if I am not understanding correctly what I am seeing.
I do not keep the cut/non-cut ends going in the same direction. That idea is new to me. In the classes I’ve taken about working with alpaca, this has not been mentioned.

I saw some person working with wool, with this breed of fleece and keeping the ends aligned. I think it only applies to wool or only applies to certain breeds of wool

I was really hoping this would help me card the fiber I have, but she has expensive, specialty tools, not the simple hand carders I can justify as a hobbyist. Nothing wrong with showing the expensive professional way, but it would have been nice to have that in the title so I didn’t bother to watch.
I’m sorry the video did not meet your expectations. However, The equipment used in the video is not professional. That would be at the mill level. Neither do I consider the drum carder an expensive tool when I literally have hundreds of pounds of fiber per year to process. Considering this is a channel from an alpaca ranch, you can expect that there’s a lot of fiber to work with and hand cards are just too time-consuming. I hope you find videos more in line with your needs. But I certainly don’t think my video is a waste of time to watch. And it IS appropriately titled.

Criticism?? Lol. Based on you condescending response, I must have hit a nerve. It is obvious that our perspectives regarding what is professional or expensive fiber processing equipment are very different. I think it best we part ways here.
@@ButterfieldAlpacaRanch Its a wonderful video. I only have 18 alpacas and couldn't even imagine trying to hand card. Made my own drum carder lol. Not nearly as hard as thought it would be.
