How can we test whether an organism has been intelligently designed or not? (Or even ascertain the degree or stage of intelligent design.) Do we just have to guess? Merely saying, "Looks like intelligent design to me," isn't science.
There is indeed no way to test wether something is truly designed or not. The reason structures like this look like they have been designed by someone is because they work, sometimes awfully well. The reason we only see structures that work is because the ones that don't have been lost to extinction billions of years ago already. If you look at the way the human eye is constructed, with the layer of cells capturing the light placed behind the layer of neural cells that send the information to the brain under the form of electric signal, I doubt you'd think it was designed intelligently. That's because it wasn't designed, it's just the way our eyes spontaniously evolved to be, and as that fault doesn't hinder our vision to the point of compromising our survival, it stayed.
@@uMaud In fact, it does not. For a fully functional element to continue to exist, it must have worked from the beginning, otherwise natural selection would have discarded it for not working and giving some advantage to the organism. This engine, for example, always had to have worked or it would have been discarded long ago.
The cilia and flagellae evolved very late in bacterial and archaeal evolution following the evolution of helicase, polymerase, ATP synthase and ATPase molecular machines. From then on it was a matter of assembly by chaperone proteins. A new book published by Austin Macauley Publishers titled From Chemistry to Life on Earth outlines abiogenesis in great detail with a solution to the evolution of the genetic code and the ribosome as well as the cell in general using 290 references, 50 illustrations and several information tables with a proposed molecular natural selection formula with a worked example for ATP. Cheap as an e book.
You need faith and science. One with out the other is like a bike missing a wheel. You will go nowhere and be stuck defending your position. No person should stay ignorant. It leads to stagnation. It is in you and all around you. Embrace life. The marvel of nature is beautiful
Simultaneously believing that some things needn’t be proven and don’t have to obey logic, and that all things must be proven and must obey logic. Yep, totally rational.
His whole argument collapses on two counts: - Evolution does not work by “blind chance”. That’s a contortion of the theory. - It is known that individual protein components that make up the flagellum have other uses of their own. The “motor” did not just suddenly appear by design.
The fallacy here is blind chance. Nothing appears by blind chance. And nothing is irreducibly complex. This guy seems to think that since we have named the parts of a bacterium similarly to the outboard motor of a boat, that it had to be designed by someone as a motor for a boat is. But, in reality, a bacterium has nothing to do with an outboard motor. Hence my “trouble” in seeing how it could be “intelligently designed.”
Thirty years ago, I studied that the eyes were irreducible complex, that they couldn’t have evolved over time. But scientists subsequently showed how they could evolve. Now, with flagella, they certainly are vey complex. But I think research already is showing that they developed from much simpler forms, maybe even for different uses. A motorboat engine also couldn’t have just appeared either. Somebody invented pistons, a small engine, a propellor, spark plugs, wire, bolts and so on.
Show us those experiments please. Even the simplest bolt needs to be exactly precisely designed to fit the other parts. Hoe is this different? We see an INSANE complexity and cooperation of parts. But somehow it must have evolved because we believe it. Great argument!
My question to theists is this: If god wanted to make a flagellum why would he not fine tune the universe so that they’d evolve naturally? Why go to all the trouble of setting up the Big Bang just right if he’s gonna have to come in and tweak stuff every now and again? He’s all knowing and all powerful, so it’s not like he couldn’t have set it up from the beginning so that the flagella would emerge naturally. And don’t give me that “god works in mysterious ways” stuff. Nothing happens without a reason.
Stop equating the whole of evolution with randomness or blind chance. No evolutionary biologist makes that claim. Evolution is not a random process it is a guided process.
Evolution is a tool of god to make thing to its eventual form or make. Most people mistaken god as one who created us and will punish us when we commit sin. That is very illogical human must use his logic to know the truth, religion is such a big scammmmmmmmm.
TLDR: this guy thinks that because something is complex and not yet fully understood it must be from some intelligent creator. Highlights to note: limited reference material showcased and a clear agenda given in the context. Opinion: Blind chance is an incorrect assumption, billions of failed iterations likely came before as is the basic process of natural selection, we don't see them because they failed or were removed from the gene pool by more successive and favorable designs. some interesting points raised nonetheless.
@@mrhow2712 I completely agree, It is in fact best not to make wild guesses but instead try to fathom logical conclusions with the empirical evidence to support them.
Thank you god for also inventing the complex molecular machinery that allows children to get diseases that rot their bodies from the inside out 🙏🛐 only a loving creator would test us so thoroughly
Nope, that's just a God of the gaps syndrome. Just because we don't know how something's done, then it CAN'T have an explanation... It MUST be made by a magical and mystical being that somehow cares about what you eat and who you have sex with... A Big F to you and to your god of the gaps.
The problem you have is that you are utterly impermeable to knowledge, as usually happens with religion and religious people. All what this man is saying is false, but you don’t care, do you? You have your bible’s ideas about Universe, and will refuse anything that they tell you that goes against it. I would suggest to you to study, to read and to follow well prepared people. If they speak about theology, listen to a well documented priest, but if they speak about science, go to a scientist!
This has been explained and debunked. The flagella motor actually is way more efficient when a specific human made mutation is inserted, so clearly God didn't choose the best one I guess. Also, flagella can still move and function even when some proteins are changed. It's a little more or less efficient and fast, etc but again, this just shows that you don't fully understand it.
In a paper by someone has been written that intelligent design hypothesis is quote “ridiculous”; hence I’m now putting forward an argument about how ridiculous your arguments are based on that. We especially need to understand that this theory is made of a very complex combination of lack of basic scientific knowledge and common sense. As such it cannot really be the fruit of chance but surely is the byproduct of an intelligent design.
I'm into ID, but I accept evolution and natural selection. Just give things time and they'll setup and balance out. I think God used these methods to let life diversify into it's many forms.
Stephen Meyer has done much to convincingly demonstrate that the “given enough time, anything is possible” fallacy by showing in countless instances the astronomical odds against the immense complexity of bio molecules, membranes, cellular activities arising from random, blind processes. John Lennox has also demonstrated the impossibility of evolution in explaining Life. The origin of existence, consciousness, of all physical laws, of what we call life itself, is not explained in anyway by Neo-Darwinism.
Let's be VERY clear on this subject. Biological evolution is science, it's supported by other entire fields of science. ID is creationism, a beLIEf. We can contrast the two, but your attempt to blur the lines by elevating a beLIEf to the same status as something so well understood, so well documented and measured, it shows a level of ineptitude and dishonesty that needs to be looked at. Well it can be explained by blind chance because we live on a planet that's billions of years old. The Human mind is just too small to understand how much time that really is. But even if this is some sort of design. It doesn't mean that it's a design from a supernatural being. At MOST, it would be a design from some kind of being that is infinitely more powerful or complex than us, maybe even created the entire Universe on its own, but that only puts it in the ballpark of transcendental. It would simply transcend our understanding. But simply because we cannot understand it doesn't make it supernatural. And the CORE crux of every religion, is that "God" is fundamentally supernatural (aka: magical).
His whole argument collapses on two counts:
- Evolution does not work by “blind chance”.

Hi Critical Thinker, can you tell me who or what is guiding this process?
It is guided by natural laws.

TLDR:
this guy thinks that because something is complex and not yet fully understood it must be from some intelligent creator.
Highlights to note:
limited reference material showcased and a clear agenda given in the context.
Opinion:
Blind chance is an incorrect assumption, billions of failed iterations likely came before as is the basic process of natural selection, we don't see them because they failed or were removed from the gene pool by more successive and favorable designs.
some interesting points raised nonetheless.

I completely agree, It is in fact best not to make wild guesses but instead try to fathom logical conclusions with the empirical evidence to support them.
Thank you god for also inventing the complex molecular machinery that allows children to get diseases that rot their bodies from the inside out 🙏🛐 only a loving creator would test us so thoroughly
Most excellent example of how impeccable our Creator is, Mr. Weston! 🍎🍎🍎

There are no facts. No real proof...
...but alot of gullible idiots 🤣 They should stick to the cant-lose-daytrading
The flagellar rotor evolved from something else, step by step. This has already been worked out.
It absolutely hasn't because it didn't evolve it has "irreducibly complexity" so that is not even possible.
Great video.
Thanks!
Stop calling people by their last names. Call them by their first names.
God is amazing
This has been explained and debunked.
The flagella motor actually is way more efficient when a specific human made mutation is inserted, so clearly God didn't choose the best one I guess.
Also, flagella can still move and function even when some proteins are changed. It's a little more or less efficient and fast, etc but again, this just shows that you don't fully understand it.
Sure I'll believe everything you said at face value😂

In a paper by someone has been written that intelligent design hypothesis is quote “ridiculous”; hence I’m now putting forward an argument about how ridiculous your arguments are based on that. We especially need to understand that this theory is made of a very complex combination of lack of basic scientific knowledge and common sense. As such it cannot really be the fruit of chance but surely is the byproduct of an intelligent design.

How did this anti-science bollocks appear on my feed?
LOL
Let's be VERY clear on this subject.
Biological evolution is science, it's supported by other entire fields of science.
ID is creationism, a beLIEf.
We can contrast the two, but your attempt to blur the lines by elevating a beLIEf to the same status as something so well understood, so well documented and measured, it shows a level of ineptitude and dishonesty that needs to be looked at.
If your goal is to use fallacious logical argument to support some iron age fable, that is recognized.
If your goal is to change the science or change minds after they have been exposed to the science, you are wasting your time.
It looks like your goal is to make money on the backs of the ignorant. That's shameful.
No refutation, eh genius? You cannot demonstrate a physical pathway from ape skeleton to human skeleton. You cannot demonstrate chemical pathway of ape DNA to human DNA. You cannot demonstrate two distinct gene codes evolving at exactly the same time to produce both XX and XY humans. But for some reason you still beLIEf it. No such thing as species evolution, but you beLIEf it anyway. Remember "junk DNA", genius? I do. You liars still haven't apologized for lying about it because you're liars.
You cannot account for multi purpose, multi function cell parts. You cannot demonstrate one single example of evolution of single purpose into multipurpose.
All you have is appeal to authority, which is ALWAYS wrong. haha.
@@ludwigkirchner08 "No refutation, eh genius?" Refute what exactly? Assertions without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. Are you saying that you stand by ignorance as a methodology?
" You cannot demonstrate chemical pathway of ape DNA to human DNA." Chromosomes? Maybe you have not heard of them. Maybe your level of education is kept so low that it's beyond your understanding. DNA is a chemical. It behaves as a chemical. This is not mysterious nor is it magic.
"No such thing as species evolution, but you beLIEf it anyway." Not sure you get the basics. Do you have ANY education is biological evolution at all? If not, then WHY are you maligning something we have measured? Maybe you need to read that again.
"You cannot account for multi purpose, multi function cell parts." So on and on in an argument from ignorance.
Let's make it easy for you. Show your methodology for determining truth that you apply equally to everything, without hipocracy. When you show that you have none, you can slink back into your cave of ignorance. You offer NOTHING.
"All you have is appeal to authority, which is ALWAYS wrong." How is the consensus of scientists globally based on numerous fields of science in support "an authority"? "You probably still beLIEve the electrons orbiting the nucleus nonsense, eh genius?" Let's break this down for even the lowly theist:
1. You don't have a clue what you are talking about. You have demonstrated a lack of knowledge, lack of process, and lack of methodology.
2. You want to discredit biology. Go for it. Completly, use your "ignorance" methodology to discredit all of biology. Waiting... oh look, you came empty headed and empty handed.
3. Back to the original piece. ID has ZERO qualitative methodology behind it. We know it's pseudoscience. Why? Because there isn't so much as a model, or even a single scientific paper written to outline the concept (in an established peer reviewed scientific journal). This is because IT'S NOT SCIENCE. Simply put, creationism dressed in pseudoscientific clothing convinced you. That's a reflection upon you. Instead of defining and finding support through qualitative methodology, you rant against entire fields of science. So what? You are no one. Nobody cares.
Go back, do your homework. When you can produce a methodology for determining truth that you have applied equally to ALL THINGS without hypocrisy, let's talk. Until then, you are spouting nonsense and you are dismissed.

That is one of the levels on which you are wrong.
In addition, evolution is an observable fact and the theory of evolution is demonstrated to be correct and productive on a daily basis.
That is another level on which you are wrong.
Here is the thing;
You can disagree with evolution as much as you like, for any reason you like.
You can claim it is unsubstantiated made up nonsense all day long.
You can state that it is impossible and in violation of several known laws of physics.
You can proclaim that it contravenes the teachings of your holy book.

You might as well try to argue that modern medicine is wrong, despite people being cured and infections prevented all the time.

Science is great - when you stop ignoring the facts.
Yes it's better to pretend that things build themselves even though you never see it around you anywhere😂
Which means that "God" defies ANY possible scientific explanation which makes religion the OPPOSITE of knowledge.

@@hitthelikebutton9611 I don't believe anything.
I just take the scientific consensus of the rough estimate of the age of the Earth as more likely to be true than not.
I don't feel an urge, to believe something for the sake of believing. I feel more humble saying "I don't know" than saying "I know conclusively".
The most likely scenario is that the Earth is indeed billions of years old, just like science tells us. But science could be wrong, so I keep some percentage of doubt for that to not be that way...
I'm happy that my belief isn't conclusive, and that I include all possible scenarios.
But a supernatural, basically magical God, is not a possibility. Since magic makes no sense. There is no logical way of thinking that can get you there.
