I always sympathized with Walt to the end (not that I condone his behavior, but I simply like his character...certainly wouldn't side with him IRL) since the show is ultimately a blend of Western and Greek Tragedy and I feel you're supposed to feel the main character's anguish in spite of his obvious faults, poor decisions and his ultimate share of the blame. But a TON of people reach this point and just say "Yeah Walt is pure evil now and everything he does is evil" rather than the more nuanced truth that he's ultimately a pretty normal man but possessing of great pride and intelligence and it leads him down an evil path.

    "remember Jaaaaane?" - Walter White

    • @juzujuzu4555
      @juzujuzu4555 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This is TV illusion. I mean Jesse is about to die and he finds out that Walt had hired those guys to kill him (as he expected, but he didn't realize that Walt wasn't going to kill him before he called to him the "I'll get you where you truly live" phone call). So now Jesse is waiting death from the hands of his former partner that had made him a murderer (Gale, and in a way that Salamanca guy in Mexigo and helping to murder Gus and his team) so I don't think getting to know about Jane actually changes anything for him, at least in a meaningful way.
      But the reactors usually are like that reveal is 10x worse act by Walter than anything else he did. It's a clever way to utilize multiple seasons of build up. And it also shows how desensitized we are towards murders, as it's the reveal of betrayal here that seems worse than the actual murder of Jesse.
      Similar thing can be seen when animals are killed on media and video games, especially if it's a dog. I find that disgusting that we are ok to kill endless amount of people in games like The Last of Us II, but when animals that attack us are being killed, people scream about the injustice of it. While vast majority are eating meat of much more intelligent animal like pig, who spend it's whole life in concentration camp to be slaughtered. I'm not a vegetarian, but I feel for all the animals we eat, but I hardly care about animals in media where we kill humans.
      But I digress =D

He was trying to get Jesse to finally give up on ever thinking Walt could be redeemed by saying something so despicable and loathsome. In doing so, their relationship was completely severed, and it presented Jesse with freedom to hopefully get away at some point. Kind of like how Walt admitted to everything over the phone with Skyler, and sounded so maniacal and insane, all as a way to actually save his family, and take any potential blame away from Skyler. One of the first things *Walter* ever said to *Gus* was that he and him were alike, to which Gus quickly rejected. Although, I think Gus did see himself in Walt, perhaps a more young and naive version of himself. Even if he didn’t want to admit it. This episode makes so many more parallels to Walt and Gus and their journey, they both were way in over there head, and it cost them both losing a brother, someone they cared for so much, to become the cold and calculated geniuses they are later in their lives (as you will see in the last two episodes). Even the way they shot it with Walter falling on his right side right in front of his dead brother (in law) just like Gus did in the episode Hermanos. In the end they both even suffered a similar demise... to be continued on the Felina reaction video.

    I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
    Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
    Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear:
    "My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"

    The only things Walt does in this episode I disagree with is how he treated Jesse in the desert and his decision to take the baby. He did absolutely everything he could to save Hank. He was ready to give himself up to save Hank. He tried warning Hank when Jack showed up. He tried to talk down Jack and his gang. He was willing to give Jack his entire 80 million dollar fortune to save Hank. I think he blamed Jesse for Hank's death and it causes him to want revenge in that moment. Now that you have seen the finale, you know that Walt has a change of heart. He does everything he can to save his family and his wife from any blame. I can't imagine how much panic was running thru him during the events of this episode. I love how this show questions the morality of the viewers depending on who they are rooting for.

    Walter yelled at Skylar to shift all the blame onto himself and not Skylar for their crimes. He wasn't yelling because he hated Skylar. It was specifically to protect her and make himself look as evil as possible.
    That's why he says things like "Oh you should have stopped" and "What do you know?" and "I told you to keep your mouth shut". This will demonstrate in court that Walter threatened Skyar into helping him, didn't know most of what he was doing, and Walter did it all himself. "me and me alone". Saying he killed Hank in such a spiteful, despite how much he cared about Hank, was to prove that he was dangerous and willing to kill Skylar if she "crossed him".

    in my opinion the baby that portrayed holly deserves an emmy

  • @deadpool981
    @deadpool981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    When holly started saying “mama” that was not scripted. The baby actress was calling for her mom, Bryan Cranston just improvised and rolled with it with those facial reactions

    • @este.bahn92
      @este.bahn92 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly doubt that's true.
      It's entirely possible that the baby said those words and thats where the "improvised" rumour came from, but Cranston's reaction isn't improvised. How do I know? Because they are different shots. Most of filmmaking works with 1 camera working at a time, so a shot / reverse shot scene is acted twice, each time with the camera pointed at a different actor. So in my opinion it's extremely unlikely that they set up 2 cameras (which is expensive) for a scene that was somewhat insignificant.

    • @deadpool981
      @deadpool981 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@este.bahn92 rian Johnson was talking in an interview about the moment and how he was hoping Brian Cranston embraced the moment and didn’t break character for the shot. I’ve worked on sets and with children. It’s possible that they would set up two cameras at once so they could reduce the amount of time filming they needed with such a young child on set. Saves money too if they can keep the amount of filming days to a minimum .

    This whole episode feels so real because it forces you to deal with everything at once. In life when shit hits the fan it always feels like everything happens before you have time to process; the jarring camera angles and scene changes and the fucking SOUNDSCAPE. Masterpiece of an episode.
