    As the premium ANC headphone market heats up, cheaper ANC headphones are getting better and better cause of the trickle down effect. And a good example of this are the new Audio-Technica ATH-SR50BT’s. I think these are a pair of very well rounded headphones that perform great and have some very welcomed features. And if it wasn’t for their touch pad, I think these headphones would be perfect.

    I’ve been using the SR50bt for about a week now and just wanted to mention something about the touch controls. At first I thought they were terrible but they are actually quite decent. When swiping up and down to change songs rather than using just the tip of my finger when I keep my finger flatter it works over 90% of the time.
    I also found it hard to find the pause and volume up/down controls as they are in a pretty specific spot but by holding the touch control part of the ear cup with my thumb and middle finger first it makes it a whole lot easier to find them. They may have updated some firmware since the review but though this was worth mentioning.

    If you consider buying these read this. I bought these before having Audio-Technica ATH-M40x wired headphones. Sound quality is somewhat similar, I may even enjoy the Sr50bt more for a punchier, slightly bassier sound. Not sure if the sound clarity is at the same level though. Sr50bt is way more comfortable for me. BUT there is a huge BUT! When on Bluetooth mode a hiss on the right earcup is present always! And this is not just for my pair but for every single one of them! Read the Amazon reviews... For any kind of calm or quiet listening the hiss is too much. When at home, I still choose a wire because the hiss makes me feel uncomfortable. This makes absolutely no sense for almost a 200$ headphone from such an established brand. I feel like they just did not care enough. I just don't understand why these reviews do not mention this.

    • @tsureiha
      @tsureiha 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just got mine yesterday, didnt encounter the hiss problem like you said. or do you have any song recommendation that would show the hiss really apparent?

    • @oz33
      @oz33 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's common for BT headphones. Sennheiser 450BT has that white noise sound also. I think it's the Bluetooth chip.
      @Gall - KFPear, in order to hear it just play any song and hit "mute". Easiest to do on a laptop I guess. I don't notice the hiss during songs though and it's also very dependent on your hearing sensitivity to it. Some people are more sensitive to higher frequencies, other to lower and so on.
      @Okeano, I also have the M40x. Have had them for 7 years. Tip: the pleather will start to peel at some point (after ~5 years in my case). When that happens, besides opting for a new set of pads, you can take a toothbrush and carefully scrub off all the pleather material from the cups. You'll end up with nice, soft textile pads that are more breathable. The headband is trickier. I just peeled off the underside carefully.

      Haven't noticed a hiss on my end. Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

      @@oz33 Pads only cost $10-20 depending on the quality/construction so that's no problem if you take excellent care of them, but for $200 you SHOULD be taking care of them, right?

    • @Okeanospalvos
      @Okeanospalvos หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kiillabytez Hey there, I know this is posted 3 years ago but just wanted to say it is no conspiracy theory as I still use these headphones daily. For my use, I am using them wired always and I love them. But Bluetooth mode is just not comfortable for me because of the hiss and the radio transmission.
      By the way, I have contacted Audio-Technica's support in UK about the hiss and this is what they replied: "The ‘noise’ that you can hear in the right ear of the headphones is quite plainly just the sound of the Bluetooth transmission. This is something that occurs in all Bluetooth headphones. That being said, it can be exaggerated, or more subtle depending on the connected device.
      The delay in the hiss starting and stopping when you hit play/pause is the headphones’ gate cutting off the noise floor so you can’t hear it. It takes a little bit of time for the gate to start working due to the nature of its attack and release properties.
      Due to all this, I can’t offer up a direct solution to reduce the amount of hiss you are hearing. But, as it varies from device to device, I would suggest pairing your headphones with other phones or laptops and seeing if you can hear a noticeable difference in noise level."

  • @CrushBuds
    @CrushBuds 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video. I picked them up a few days ago. As a lefty, I have no complaints of the position of the controls. It's refreshing. Finding the play/pause is my only small gripe. Absolutely love them and glad I waited patiently for months after their initial announcement in August. Totally worth it.

    I prefer the controls on the left as a r-handed individual. It allows me to continue what I'm doing while controlling the set. I primarily use them for Studio work, and to have to remove my hand from the mouse to control the set would be a great inconvenience, and I believe the set was marketed towards someone who constantly uses their r-hand more than their left.

    Im in the market for a set a headphones and this by far one of the better videos I seen on a set of headphones.. Theres just soo many options out there for headphones now... I want bluetooth but also want wired for music producing and mixing.. I now think I am just going to get a solid set of wired headphones.. and just get a cheaper bluetooth headset. the MicroUSB while it doesn't annoy more, but thinking about it.... those batteries die, they go bad, can become defective... can stop charging, port might go bad... etc.... All my bluetooth headphones I had over years have gone bad or stopped charging at some point.. Not saying that its because its micro usb its just batteries die. Now I just don't know what headset I am going to get lol. Great video.

    Hey! Just got my pair of SR50BTs, and when listening to a bunch of different audio tracks they sound almost muddy. Not much better (if at all) than the earbuds that came with my S10+. Any clue as to what it might be? I turned off all of the Android sound processing to get the most natural sound possible. They just sound flat and muddy, not even neutral. I wouldn't describe it as detailed nor clean, like many others have stated.

    Do they sound the same (more or less, considering Bluetooth compression) both wired and wireless? I bought the ATH SR50BT because of one of your videos, and I can't tell much of a difference between the sound..... Possibly the h9i feels like the music comes from further away, possibly, only possibly. I'm not a super audiophile but I feel distortion easily. I am trying to figure out which one to keep. Could you help me? 1- the h9i has better materials, and the battery is removable so this device could potentially last me longer once the battery dies I can buy a new one and like new... More premium design etc...2- the ATH is almost 1/2 the price... it fits my head better. the materials are cheap and the touch controls are worse, and switching between devices...

I never had any good over ear headphones before but from what I can say they sound very natural and accurate. I can literally hear so much detail in songs and exactly where voices are coming from. I don't have much experience with good headphones though so this is very subjective. I have these. I agree with all of your points, especially about the touch controls. The phones are fantastic, love the neutral sound, though they need some help below ~120 hertz. One thing, and you may not even know - I certainly didn't until reading the manual - it has two bluetooth codecs. A higher fidelity codec, and a lower latency codec. If you pair them to a windows computer, both will pop up in the bluetooth settings once paired, but only one will be active. Out of the box I believe they default to the quality setting.

      The ath-m50xbt are superior to Ath-sr50BT. They don't compare when it comes to sound. I just bought Ath-sr50BT becuase I wanted the hear through option, but was disappointed in the sound quality. I'm returning them asap.

      my man buy yourself some speakers you can do all of the things you want and are 100% more comfortable then putting anything in your head/ears, you want to travel with them ? no problem take them with you on the go and blast them full volume in the airplane/train/car. No need to thank me just giving you the best advise you have ever heard.

      Anything that has a more or less flat sound signature will work great for more complex music.
      Where they will falter is with really pumped up music, where some might feel like the music sounds dead.
