Great video! However, I understand that it was made several years ago, and it is May of 2023 and I am trying to access some of the areas on the TED site that you mentioned relative to How to become a TEDx speaker, like searching types of talks and what speaking opportunities are available. Unfortunately, hey don't seem to be there or will not allow me to search and I just get a prompt on their site saying "Sorry, Something Went Wrong". Has the TED site changed? Is it possibly malfunctioning? I'm using a MAC computer, could that be the issue? Please let me know if you have any idea what might be going on. I would like to make an effort to become a TEDx speaker. Thank you so much! Keep up the great work!
Hi Shawn, everything that I share in this video still works. Probably TED's website has some updates and sometimes it shows the errors. It happens with me too recently. So, try again later. You can search for the TEDx events in your country and then close up the map and see what events are available. You will have a list of them under the map too so you can click on each event and see more details if they have, or Google the name of the upcoming event that you would like to apply for and see the requirements on their website if there is one. Also, everything works on mac. For what country do you search the TEDx events?
@@MarinaBarayeva I'm in the process of researching TEDx Talks in my area and hope to soon apply. I will let you know. Btw, I have a friend that is a Dean at a college in Texas and would love to do a TED Talk. I found info for being nominat, but do you know how she can apply herself for TED Talk? Thanks so much💖
@@TerpVal She can nominate herself. But as the form designed for nominating people maybe someone can do that for her as well. So it won't be her praising herself and her ideas, but someone else acknowledges her. Still, the competition is very high there so she can also apply for TED Fellows Program www.ted.com/about/programs-initiatives/ted-fellows-program . This program also recognizes only a small group of people with a big idea and goes under the official TED organization.
Thank you for your question. Speakers don't get paid for their talks. They get an opportunity to share their message with a broader audience. Also, they can leverage the fact that they're TEDx speakers to promote their brand after they get an opportunity to give a TEDx talk.
You need to check this with the TEDx events that you will apply to. There is no limitation for TEDx speakers. You can apply for any TEDx event in the world. If the event is for the local speakers only it's the organizer's decision, not a TEDx rule. Most events are for everyone. I didn't see on TEDxHarlem's website that it's for locals only. If you plan to apply for their next event then you may write them to double-check.

@@PamelaReyes You won’t get paid at TEDx. It’s an official rule. However, giving a TEDx talk will make you stand out if you want to be a paid public speaker and will help to position yourself as an expert. Think about TEDx as your big investment into a future
Very helpful information. Are there any fees associated with TED Talks? Do you have to do these talks in a live format and do they cover your expenses if you are traveling to a location to do the talks? Thanks, Dr. Lucy
Hi Dr. Lucy, there is no fee, no one will cover your expenses or pay you for a talk. It's up to you to participate or not. Usually, you give it as a regular performance on stage. Last year due to coronavirus they launched online live talks, which is also considered as TED talk. However, if you plan a public speaking career then stage performance will be more beneficial for you. Hope it helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Excellent video. Thank you very much for this. Just to clarify, did you apply for multiple TEDx events simultaneously? Thanks for posting again. Very helpful
Hi Chad, I wish I knew all the tips I share now when I tried to give my TEDx talk. I first applied to one event at the time but didn't get any replies, then figured out how to find more events. What I'd recommend you is look at different events and themes where you can give a speech on your topic and then contact those that you can reach out to. Some events don't have contact details, some may be already filled even if on ted.com is listed that they have space, some already may decide on the speakers but still, have the application opened. So, apply for several and if you get approved for a few you can pick the one that will benefit you the most.
I’m 17 and have wanted to give a talk for a few years now but my issue that I worry either my parents won’t allow me to for fear that I’ll embarrass myself or that no one will accept my application when they see my age and lack of experience/credentials. Should I still go for it?
Hi Afton, the youngest TED speaker was Molly Wright at 5 years old. You're much older already :) You can search for TEDxYouth or TEDxUniversity events in your area. Those are TEDx events that have a mix of students and adults. You perfectly fit this event with your age. However, you need to be thoughtful about your topic. TEDx performance is about a thought-provoking idea that you as a speaker want to deliver. The organizers will look at your topic, the content you want to share, and your experience to be able to talk about this topic. And remember, there is high competition to get to a TEDx stage even among the adults, so you may get rejected many times before you get to a TEDx stage. But don't let it discourage you. If you want to give a TEDx talk then be patient, persistent, and don't give up until you make your dream come true.
Marina Barayeva Hi Marina, this was a very useful video. I did apply this year for a talk but I wasn’t selected. I didn’t ask for feedback though, so I’m going to do so and will apply again. This was the motivation I needed! Thanks, Sylvia

@@MarinaBarayeva Hi ! Thanks for ur response butt..... You actually missed letting me know about : Is there any payment required for giving a talk at particular event .
A lot of people don't even know that there are different TEDx events. Youth and university events get uploaded to the regular TEDx TH-cam channel and they also can be featured on ted.com site as other events. Except for the mention in the descriptions, there is no difference in how it appears online. Youth events may be less promoted, otherwise, it doesn't make a big difference unless you're on purpose aim for the top TEDx stages. You will leverage your talk much more as a part of your personal brand and credibility after it gets published online and it will be on you how you will do that. The only thing is when you give a talk the organizers would expect you to keep in mind that it's a Youth event, so your talk needs to be ok with youngsters, however not necessarily touch a youth theme. If you want to use it as a credibility in your business or career then try to adjust the topic to what will serve your business in the long term and can be useful for teenagers as advice or experience too.
