    I was already so impressed with your work, AND THEN you mentioned that you work with my Brother and Sister members of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing! Thank you Sir for supporting us and I will be passing along your channel to the Tucson and Sierra Vista, Arizona PHWFF Members.

      I guess it is the natural thing for me to do since I took care of soldiers and sailors for almost 23 years as a corpsman in Navy. Just what I feel I need to do.

    What a great rod builder, friend and mentor... and an incredible artist, to say the *very* least.
    I love the dancing wood grain color/effect.
    Once again brother - AWESOME work!

    Really really nice Doc.
    I wanted to thank you for all the great videos you’ve taught me a lot. Your common sense approach to rod building is very easy to follow. Except for the weaves that still blows my mind. Thanks again and I hope you will continue to teach wrappers like me.

      Thank you for the wonderful comments. I hope to be around a while longer and making new videos, I guess you all are stuck with me LOL

    Where do you get your burnishers, I've noticed you have a few nice ones.

      One of the people I helped along the way made them for me. Some are made out of surgical instruments. Heated, Hammered and buffed baby butt smoothe.

    That is Beautiful work. And there in lays the problem It seams like a hole lot of Work.and that would take the fun out of it for me. Can you get enough for one of your rods to make it worth your time spent ?

    On your tiger wraps, do you find that larger thread (c or d) make for a better look?

  • @weswolf73
    @weswolf73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    tiger? looks like wood grain, which is a better match with the wood handle. beautiful work.

    where did you get your pointed burnisher?

  • @htgy50
    @htgy50 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question. After the first layer of wrapping do you add a coat of flex coat/epoxy and then the top layer of wrapping?

    • @docski377
      @docski377  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Peter Cacari Two to three layers of Finish between the bottom layer and the top layer.

      +docski377 thank you very much for actually answering my question. A lot of people don't take the time to do so. Your work is beautiful. Thanks for educating the beginners like me.

      MrXinsizionx Good Question, I usually fish every rod I build at least a few tunes, but I am really careful

    What trim do you use for a “no foregrip” rod?

    • @docski377
      @docski377  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure what you are asking. If you are asking what type of inlay on the tiger wrap then it is a JTOB = Jim Trelikes Olive Branch.

    • @BVisser7
      @BVisser7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      docski377 I guess it would be the “winding check” how do you transition from reel seat to blank with no foregrip. Looks like a little rubber piece?

    • @docski377
      @docski377  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good eye, yes it is a small winding check the matches perfectly to the OD of the Reel Seat.

      docski377 where do you find such a thing? I’ve been looking all over for one of em! Thanks for the replies

      To tell you the truth it likely came from gear I have had for years. I have stuff stockpiles form the 60s and actually some before.

    a bit to much decoration if you ask me
    i prefer my rods classy and simple

    • @docski377
      @docski377  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      bombingbloke That is what makes custom rod building so unique. You can make them the way you want them. Out here we more often than not like them a little loud. Different strokes for different folks.

    • @novachannel1981
      @novachannel1981 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      bombingbloke was thinking the same but also was wondering if they actually fish with it because its no nice looking id hate to drop it on a rock or it take a dip in the water

      I have noticed more and mnore custom tricked out rods on my multiday fishing trips out of san diego and baja. The charters I put together have and especially large number of trick rods but that is to be expected with the groups I put together.

      I make rods you can't buy in any stores, one of a kind. I set down with you, you tell me what you are looking for in the wraps. What you will fish for now we look at kind of parts I will need , you have so many to pick from.I will give you a cost for the rod. This can take from 30 mins.to an hour or more.Its up to you. THAT IS WHY I CALL THE ROD "CUSTOM" !!! One of a kind . The rod will last you a life time.I make them to fish with.
      From start to finish can take me as much as 90days or as little 3days. When you get the rod, you go try It out . If it is not right tell me and I will fix It if I can. You can't buy that in a tackle shop or Wal-mart. When you go out to fish your rod will work the way you want it to . ONE OF A KIND.
