I don''t know how you feel about this suggestion, and it ofcourse depends on where you live, but have you considered dumpster diving? I'm 46 but back when I was in school I'd go DDing and find old PCs, screens, keyboards and mice that people had thrown out and build a PC from that. Sometimes I even found servers where I'd use the case for a NAS due to the amount of HDDs it could hold. On another note I'd suggest you use RAID 5 if you really want more storage out of your NAS. The 10/100Mbit just means that it's compatible with switches/modems that use the old 10Mbit or the newer (at the time) 100Mbit speeds, it's the same when you see 10/100/1000Mbit on equipment, it just means that it adapts to whatever the network runs. Seeing as you've already set everything up and that I see an SSD in the build I'm assuming that that's the boot drive? Some time ago I used Xigmanas, booted it from a USB and had it run from that just to have a SATA port for an extra HDD.
Thanks for the suggestion; I didn't think about dumpster diving, but I probably wouldent do it because I've had a bad history with dumpsters. I did figure out that it is a 10/100 port running at minimum speed due to driver conflicts, and yes the ssd is the boot/cache drive so I can use zfs to its fullest capibilty. I did find a lot of old workspace desktops on marketplace for $20, one of the desktops is a old inspiron 4100 ( if memory serves right), and converted that to my NAS, and it does run at gigabit which is much better for my use case.
Thoughts?
