- Wildlife workers rescued a 525-pound bear that was hiding underneath an Altadena home that was evacuated during the Eaton Fire.

They didn't say the bear was injured or in poor health so theres no reason to take it to a sanctuary when it can live in the wild. And I can promise you the bear would rather be in the wild

Grizzly bear is what’s on the state flag. Grizzly Bears have not been seen in California since 1924. They are twice as big as California Black Bears

Thank you for relocating this bear. Here, in Minnesota, the DNR often just shoots the animal without even trying to relocate. They are gun happy hunters. Hope the 🐻 bear will like its new location.
I'm glad they relocated him too but they should always relocate. Their normal policy of just leave it there stinks of CA liberal logic. There's no problem until there's a catastrophe. A black bear usually won't hurt anyone unless someone gets too close. Leaving a bear in a community is an unacceptable risk.

Nice to see recovery with this elder bear. Agency handled him in the best humane way. Elder bear has sad eyes. He's been through so much with fires and no food. Bless these kind fellows to humanly help him out from under that home. Pray his bew habitat he can find some bear friends. Animals have been through trauma with the fires. Natural habitat is being destroyed due to continued development. Bear had some tasty treats before being released. Feel sad for this elderly bear. Pray he will be ok 🙏🫶

What they meant is had they tranquilized it under the house it was too big for them to drag out of the space.
His Lyft driver refused him so he decided to look for some picnic baskets and then fell asleep under the house.

My 🐇's Community Pages have listings of pet rescues that need fosters, food, blankets, etc. It is updated daily. While mostly info on rescues for displaced pets, it also includes some human resources as well.

You just have to wait for them to come out then board it up before they return.

They don't. The poor homeowner is stuck... so much for paying taxes for services.
Even the SPCA won't help anymore. Our local Animal Control (Monterey County) won't either. They claim it's too much of a risk to send an officer on to private property as the officer may be injured. Fish & Wildlife are worthless too now.
Thank you for finding a way to care for the bear too. He's been terribly traumatized and probably hadn't eaten or drank water for sometime. I hope he'll be okay in his new environment. Can you post an update as to how the bear is doing?

My grandpop has a house in the Poconos, in the winter he moves to FL with his brother, but he knows that a bear will spend the winter in his crawl space. My grandpop's attitude is he needs a place to stay and isn't trying to hurt anyone. This from a Nam Vet, he has such a soft spot for ALL animals.

Everything sounded like it went well until they admitted to "tagging" it. Humans are wicked as a whole, that was unnecessary. If someone wouldn't want it done to them, why on Earth would they think an animal wants a non biodegradable material hanging from their flesh everyday.

If I was the home owner all my thoughts would be with the bear. He probably just escaped the fire.
I loved that the homeowner knew the bear was there, and did not call Fish and Game until the gas company wouldn't reconnect the line because of the bear. Chill bear who certainly found a chill homeowner. Hopefully the bear enjoys his new habitat.
