I totally get it!! For me as a kid the Dunes books were my escape window, when I was in a bad place. These characters became my closest friends and confidants!! Seeing what Denis did, I am beyond static, to see the whole movie, He did not disappointed us!! Woohoo!!!!!!!

I’ve recently completed reading Dune. It was an amazing read, but I had only been exposed to the 84 film as a kid. This trailer, however, brings all of these images to life. I can’t wait to see this movie .

Did you know that the book was first published by Chilton, who mostly published auto parts and repair manuals, because one of their editors was an SF fan? No major U.S. publisher would touch it. Chilton also published the 1st editions of a few other classics: Ursula K. LeGuin's "Left Hand of Darkness" and James Schmitz's "Witches of Karres". That editor (I forget his name) had great taste.
@ebulating A likely candidate for that would be editor John W. Campbell, who first published it in two sections as serials in Analog magazine (starting in Dec. 1963). Campbell bought other works by Frank as well, but Dune was hardly typical Analog material. John bought it anyway.
I read the Earthsea series from Ursula K. LeGuin and loved them and the Dune series when I was a kid. i agree 100% about the editor. I am glad he was able to spot greatness.
I had the same reaction as you. I love this book(s) and have read them dozens of times over the past 40 years. I know what is going on in each shot shown in this trailer, every single shot I can tell you where that is in the story. My man Denis!!! If we have a shot at getting Dune for real on the big screen, Denis is the guy to do it ... and do it well. As far as sci-fi movies ... this is the biggest deal ever, since this book led to everything we have seen for the last 50 years; anime, Star Trek, Star Wars, everything. Everything came because of this great book. Those weren't silly noises ... that was joy from someone who gets it!!!

I came across this reaction rather late, but I have to say, finally a reaction from someone who knows what he is talking about and is genuinely interested in every little detail. I am a "selective" SF fan, but I love everything that Villeneuve did, I am G. Fraser fan (the DoP), soI can't wait to see Dune, being a fan of the books. Dude. Anyone who knows Dune understands the magnitude of this movie if done right. I haven’t been excited about any movie ever. I saw the original movie when I was 6 and played all the games and then read the book when I was around 12. I teared up when I saw this with my wife.

Hearing you had played Halo before reading Dune made me realize how old I am. I first read the book when I was seventeen the year the first movie was released. I see you are in Port Moresby, I've spent quite a bit of time on the other side of the island from you in what is now called West Papua but was still Irian Jaya back then.

Fun reaction. I love that the ornithopters have articulated wings in this version. :) The round worm isn't a cool looking IMO as the 80s movie version, but fits the description in the book better. Totally agree, "I must not hype!" tbh, I don't expect them to nail the story, the internal conflict and presentience in the book would be really hard to get right. But I'm looking forward to something beautiful that at least tries to be faithful to the source material.

Dune was the first SF novel I read. I was around 13 or 14. No other SF was able to compete, so I ended up reading more science fantasy. When ‘84 rolled around, I I saw the film in the theatre when I was 16, and after that, waited for the technology to reach a point that seeing another adaptation would be more feasible. Looks like it has arrived, eh? 🤓 Btw, I don’t think they’ve used Frank Herbert’s pronunciation of the words/names.
Best reaction ever. Heartfelt. I fantasised about Villeneuve making a Dune adaptation when I was rereading the books for the however many times I've read them. When I heard he was making it I felt a little giddy. He is absolutely the right director. I loved Bladerunner 2049, that film made me so happy. I love the Dune books, only the Frank Herbert six novels not the spin offs. I read it first as a young kid and loved it, got more out of it as an adult. I'm a fan of sci fi, I end up rereading the same books as I struggle to find books that are up to the standard of Herbert, Heinlein and others. My all time favourite series of books are the Iain M Banks culture novels. They are fantastic, so inventive. I really enjoyed your reaction, I think I made many of the same noises and may have stopped breathing for a bit.
I appreciate reactions from someone who has read Dune or the later works in the series. Seems like half of the reactors know nothing about the series and they are like "uh. nice," but they have no appreciation for what they are seeing. So thank you for your heartfelt reactions. Mine were very similar. I saw DV's Arrival and Sicario and BR2049 so I, too, know what he can do. This trailer is huge and does not disappoint. I haven't been to a theater in half a year and have no plans otherwise with only this exception. I will come out of my hole to see this movie.

Dude. Anyone who knows Dune understands the magnitude of this movie if done right. I haven’t been excited about any movie ever. I saw the original movie when I was 6 and played all the games and then read the book when I was around 12. I teared up when I saw this with my wife.

Hearing you had played Halo before reading Dune made me realize how old I am. I first read the book when I was seventeen the year the first movie was released. I see you are in Port Moresby, I've spent quite a bit of time on the other side of the island from you in what is now called West Papua but was still Irian Jaya back then.

Fun reaction. I love that the ornithopters have articulated wings in this version. :) The round worm isn't a cool looking IMO as the 80s movie version, but fits the description in the book better. Totally agree, "I must not hype!" tbh, I don't expect them to nail the story, the internal conflict and presentience in the book would be really hard to get right. But I'm looking forward to something beautiful that at least tries to be faithful to the source material.

I already watched this trailer before I saw your reaction video, but your excitement is sooo infectious that I totally lost my shit while watching this again! I did the same thing when I saw it the first time, I just started listing all the stuff and people I recognized. and yes, I even started re-reading the book again too! The Mind Killer mantra has been one of mine for years, too. I loved this video!

Dune was the first SF novel I read. I was around 13 or 14. No other SF was able to compete, so I ended up reading more science fantasy. When ‘84 rolled around, I I saw the film in the theatre when I was 16, and after that, waited for the technology to reach a point that seeing another adaptation would be more feasible. Looks like it has arrived, eh? 🤓
Btw, I don’t think they’ve used Frank Herbert’s pronunciation of the words/names.

I fantasised about Villeneuve making a Dune adaptation when I was rereading the books for the however many times I've read them. When I heard he was making it I felt a little giddy. He is absolutely the right director. I loved Bladerunner 2049, that film made me so happy. I love the Dune books, only the Frank Herbert six novels not the spin offs. I read it first as a young kid and loved it, got more out of it as an adult. I'm a fan of sci fi, I end up rereading the same books as I struggle to find books that are up to the standard of Herbert, Heinlein and others. My all time favourite series of books are the Iain M Banks culture novels. They are fantastic, so inventive. I really enjoyed your reaction, I think I made many of the same noises and may have stopped breathing for a bit.
Oof I swear right? A small part of me regrets reading Dune at such an early point in my life. Now I just compare EVERYTHING to it 😅

I appreciate reactions from someone who has read Dune or the later works in the series. Seems like half of the reactors know nothing about the series and they are like "uh. nice," but they have no appreciation for what they are seeing. So thank you for your heartfelt reactions. Mine were very similar. I saw DV's Arrival and Sicario and BR2049 so I, too, know what he can do. This trailer is huge and does not disappoint. I haven't been to a theater in half a year and have no plans otherwise with only this exception. I will come out of my hole to see this movie.
