Being a good vocalist would mean a singer who is skilled with breath support, great pitch, controlled vocal agility, crystal clear belting, fully connected vocal registers from top to bottom of their range and is consistent when executing there notes. Kelly is a good singer but she is not a consistent vocalist and that is an objective statement not “subjective”

if she would've got somebody to train her more on her breath control and her belting and proper rest to sustain her voice on tour dates, and if Kelly ACTUALLY had did big tour dates around the U.S. and Internationally; oh hunny she would've been right up there with the top black pop girls. The CLARITY & RESONANCE of her voice when she holds her notes is IMPECCABLE!

If Kelly had an ounce of Beyonce's confidence, she would have been just as big of a star. Her tone is amazing. It would be interesting to hear what she would have sounded like if she wasn't trained to mimic Beyonce's style of runs & inflections. Her tone is so nice that she really doesn't need to do all the riffs & runs... she could sing it straight and still be mesmerizing.
I agree. I've always felt like she didn't realize her own potential, especially in regards to her range. There's SO much there I think she could access if she'd just trust herself.
I believe Kelly was made to lack confidence. Take her hair for instance. Clearly when they started Kelly hair was as long as the rest of them. But magically when they make it her hair is cut ridiculously short for no reason. And all the times she was made to lip synch while Bey sang live alot. Her vocals were stunted during that Era. Which is why when her and Michelle went solo they vocals grew because they were allowed to actually sing
@@zleo7054 That's true, and there's also the issue of skin color. Nobody wants to talk about that part. People were color struck in the 90's way more than today. She was dark-skinned, had a round nose, and an athletic body, so they considered her less attractive. She ended up getting a nose job and a boob job.

Her voice is a "sleeping beast", I mean if her style and technique are polished she could have rival Beyonce's vocals. Her tone has that potential "big vocals" or "entire choir" thing, I wish she unleashed early. She's sometimes also called Kelly "Mississippi Mass Choir" Rowland.

The audition the original DC did for Columbia Records, KELLY KILLED IT!!!! She showed how much talent and range her voice has. She just didn't have the kinda of support Bey got. Smh, management really missed out on ALL 4 original girls. Each of them could have gone on and did BIG things individually and as a group. But management just focused on 1 and we all know who that was.
I dont understand why people say Kelly could do big things she did big things in her solo career of course she could do bigger thing but we can not downplay what she achived as a Solo Artist Worldwide.

When love takes over
Kelly lacks confidence which causes her to be tense. When the body is tense one can not breath properly and the breath is the basis of singing. So it’s not about a lack of skill or training she had the same training as Beyonce but confidence can’t be trained nor bought. I believe Kelly is a soprano but is afraid to utilize her range in the way it was meant to be used. She constantly sings like a Beyonce place holder which is basically what she was in the group. She has potential she just has the muscle memory of a background singer. I also want to point out that Beyonce is a mezzo soprano so if Kelly is unconsciously mimicking Beyonce that would means she’s singing too low for her natural range. As you can see Kelly’s voice blossoms at the top of her voice and is lackluster at the bottom. That is an indicator of a soprano.

Kelly has a nice voice but she was always the weakest vocalist of the group. Beyonce and Michelle are leagues above in control and skill. There's no debating it. If you look at either of Destiny's Child concert DVDs, Kelly has the weakest solo set in each.
