Mini queer (US) history lesson incoming from an older person. Originally, only having the right ear pierced was code for being gay. This was most common during the 70s and 80s. But then it quickly became an East Coast, west coast thing. With, if I recall correctly, the east coast claiming the right ear and the west coast claiming the left ear. However, by the early to mid 90s, this was already phasing out and by the late 90s/early 00s, it was gone entirely. It was common for young men (queer or otherwise)to wear one or two earrings, in either ear. It was just extremely fashionable to have piercings in general. There are still ignorant, old school piercers that tell people the ear thing but, once again, the "gay" ear depends on where you live and it's so muddied at this point. However, I know many queer and straight guys, and it's not very common to wear matching earrings with your friends. And by uncommon, I've never seen it and the guys I asked had never seen it nor done it themselves. So to me, the matching earrings on a regular basis is far more interesting than which ear they have them in.

Exactly lily, straight men dont let their body parts touch when they hug if they hug, if you know what I mean. Now some are gay, straight and they are of diff races. They all pretty much said the same thing. They were all particularly adamant about one thing - not touching, spooning or caressing any other dude's erogenous zone! And if you did by mistake then you apologize and never do it again.
