The amazing thing with all of FLW designs is just how modern they feel. In the case of Wing Spread it was completed in 1939. Just 83 years ago! Looks like built in the 60’s through 80’s- or later. Timelessness in designs always the outcome. Our cottage of a home in N. IL on the shore of the Rock River has some strong similarities to a FLW designed home where we have been making subtle changes to. We have been studying the PPG Mfg choices of colors available from the FLW paint line and by Spring, I expect a masterpiece of hues completely changing our interior. Our mahogany doors and trims will really be set off by pretty much any colors that we decide on from FLW approved colors.

One of the rare FLW homes that is open to the public, and allows photography. When I visited (a couple years ago), the exterior looked worse for the wear, but I think that is a decision of the foundation; let the wood weather. But... it is FLW. The interior has some very interesting features. If you're an Eleanor Roosevelt fan, you'll be rewarded. This was one of her favorite places to visit, and you can see, sit, take pictures of her guest room. The staff is friendly, and share some interesting FLW stories; one about the leaky roof, and another about how he was kicked out by Johnson's second wife. Enjoy your visit, and if you don't hear the stories, ask.

Just took a charter to wings whatever..... What a disappointment... The place needs a million in renovation for one . The entryway is the worst foyer I have ever been in in my life. You feel like you need to duck when entering. I was never a fan of this guy and after visiting this barracks you couldn't pay me to return...........................
