  • Frank Lloyd Wright is America's most famous and lauded architect. Born in 1867, his work still feels contemporary, fresh, and ground-breaking.

It’s such a pleasure to see an owner who obviously sees the house as a national treasure and a trust. I was moved by her vast knowledge of the entire history of the house and all of its inhabitants. She should be proud of her contributions and preservation not only of the house, but of its history. That house couldn’t have a better steward!

I also respect the millions and millions of dollars they spend to restore the house. I saw a documentary on it, and it was so expensive and so time-consuming. If you saw the picture of the beam with the aunt and termite damage, you could get an idea of the level of reconstruction that was required to bring the house back. It was a labor of love. Thank goodness that someone loved the house enough and had the funds to restore it.

Not to mention the ENORMOUS cost these folks incurred to restore this treasure. the CPI Inflation Calculator only goes back to 1913; cost to build $1,316,179. I bet they spent near that if not more to renew it. I'm glad she displayed a section of the termite damaged beams. And that was really "Old Growth" lumber that was more resistant to termites than todays farmed wood.

You have to be an OCD minimalist to pull this off. And she is.. You can tell by her refrigerator, which is insanely organized. Modernist homes are terribly unforgiving for human habitation. Leave your keys on the buffet and the entire toom is thrown off. It's not a museum because it is historic. It was built to be a museum on day one, or at least an art display piece. Visually there was never room for family photos or everyday clutter.

@@xtusvincit5230 I get the Japaneses vibe from this house... but I understand minimalism as no having more than what is essential... and I see so much superfluous stuff all over the place... This is literally one of my favorite houses. I grew up in this neighborhood as a child. I used to ride my bike over to this block ALL the time to look at this house. It's what turned me into a FLW fan, who served as a creative inspiration for much of my life.
I forget how lucky I was to have lived in such a nice neighborhood.
If only there wasn't sooooo much dang snow in Rochester, I'd still be living around the corner from this place.
It's awesome to finally get a good look inside. And nice to know they FINALLY got rid of those windows on the porch FLW hated so much. It's so much better now than when I was a kid. Great job on the landscaping!

I love Frank Lloyd Wright's houses. He left a part of himself in every one. He took the time to get to know the people he was creating his masterpieces for and his designs are similar but unique at the same time. While the furniture he created for each home blended beautifully with the house, it sure doesn't look very comfortable! I wish they would show at least the master bedroom and a bathroom to finish the tours. I'm sure it's for privacy reasons, but wouldn't it be interesting to see how his genius was expressed in those rooms? The Boynton house is one of my favorites.

I had driven past the house several times when I lived in Rochester but was always too busy to stop. It was a beautiful city then but horrible winters with seemingly continuously overcast skies and abundant lake effect snow. The rest of the year was great.

Seeing an owner who loves and respects the architecture of their house is so refreshing. I am gasping along with the people taking the tour. This house is truly insane!

I love the Japanese feel and that cantilevered porch - WOWEE!
I hope to visit a Frank Lloyd Wright home one day, he was so visionary.
