  • "It used to be thought that Welsh international rugby crowds were the most musical and passionate in the world, but I've never seen anything like this Liverpool crowd." - John Morgan.
Panorama's John Morgan reports from Anfield, where fans of Liverpool Football Club have taken to belting out not just traditional football songs, but the latest pop hits from Merseyside. On this occasion - during a 5-0 thrashing of Arsenal that won Liverpool the league championship - the Kopites deliver stirring renditions of The Beatle's hit She Loves You, and Cilla Black's version of Anyone Who Had a Heart.
What is it about Liverpool that stirs such football fervour?
Clip taken from Panorama, originally broadcast on BBC Television, 20 April, 1964.

As a massive Beatles fan (with no links to Merseyside or it’s football teams) I must’ve seen this clips many times since the 1980’s….and it never loses it appeal, & makes me nostalgic for an era that existed 10 years before my birth 😁

so where did u see the clips loads times in the 80s? i call bs on this one. was only 4 channels and deff wasnt on them.maybe once max

@@AANDYist Perfect example of the sort of banality we need less of. Nothing constructive, nothing insightful, just a vapid insult from someone with silly American phrases, who evidently can’t read properly 🤦🏻You can call bs or call whatever you want. I didn’t say I saw it loads in the 80s, I said I’ve seen it loads SINCE the 80s (which was the first time I did see it)…and whats 4 channels got to do with it? It’s a BBC clip (not ITV), & I can recall seeing it on a BBC video cassette connected to Liverpool FC.

@@AANDYistwhere have you been lad? I recall when we had just 3 channels and the first part of this clip got shown back then, especially when particular programmes wanted to highlight The Beatles or our famous Kop at Anfield with its unique atmosphere, something you’ll never see at 3rd Div grounds like Fratton Park 🤣😂

    • @AANDYist

@@GeorgeHarrisonDarkHorse tbh the four times ive been to Anfield u hear more Irish voices then scousers in the pubs. And for the record us fans will never end loads of italians lives and say nothing about it ever. Also when we was in the cup final the commentator called us the loudest fans in the land. Trust me 20,000 local loyal fans rock Fratton Park and we are known for it.Anfield only rocks on euro nights now and pretty quiet most the other games. We deff out sang u the four times as away fans. try not to hate mate lifes too short. Also you would never hear us fans singing about plane crashes in the 60s in Munich..Disgusting fans! oh and for the record Henry called us the best fans and Ronaldhino said we was the best fans hes ever played against in England as the place was rocking from start to finish. Pool fans got this country banned from Europe for 5 years. Are u proud? All Liverpool are known for id robbing , gun crime and singing an awful song and tbh Celtic and Dortmund do it miles better nowadays. only reason we hear scouse this scouse that is because u got a city up the road that is miles better then Pool. Watch the FA Cup semis at Highbury and Villa Park 1992, same amount of fans and we blew ur fans away. But hey lets not let facts get in the way hey. I have been to 3 world cups and trust me Pool fans are the most disliked around the country by all the other clubs supporters.

I well remember that the Kop stayed behind and applauded Arsenal when Arsenal won the title off Liverpool in the last minute at Anfield in 1989. They were gutted but had the grace to acknowledge Arsenal as champions.
Shame Arsenal just missed out to 115 Charges FC this season. All the best to you.

There are two clubs in England, Liverpool represents the North and Arsenal the South
Its a Druidic thing the crowds are the same type of people
We both know how to sing them home,
nice to hear your voices again this year risen in pride , don't ever let it drop

If you're going to chant something at a sporting event, at least make it sound like you don't weigh 47 pounds and believe in adding as many letters and digits to the human gender line as possible.
