    he is a good friend and a former teammate of Ha seong Kim. Ha seong kim has been giving him mlb data and the advises on what he needs to prepare. Ha seong kim shared all his data with him when he struggled in mlb and advised him on what he needs to improve on. I have a feeling that Lee jung hoo will not struggle even in the first year at mlb because he has been preparing for at least two years for mlb.

    Actually, KBO Golden Glove is different from MLB Gold Glove. It is like the best 9 of the year award rather than a defensive award.
    Still, Lee has a solid defense.
    Another interesting fact is that Lee was drafted as a shortstop but changed his postition as an outfielder because at that time the Heroes shortstop was Ha-seong Kim.

    Lee is not a power hitter. He's a contact player. His plate discipline is impressive. 5x gold glover in the kbo. I don't think he would have any trouble adjusting. It may take a month or so, but when he gets going, he is electric.

    He seems like the exact kind of player the cubs would want. They’ve clearly prioritized pitching, defense and contact over power this rebuild. Almost to a fault since their lack of power was pretty glaring for a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cubs go hard for him

      @JoTalksYT  ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing about Lee is that he hits the ball hard, so he is not your typical contact-first hitter despite his elite contact. I don’t know why that translated to as many HRs though, maybe it’s the launch angle or maybe the ginormous outfield of Gocheok Skydome has something to do with it.
    Despite many Korean fans’ concern that Lee can’t play CF in the majors, Lee is perfectly serviceable and can be a plus defender at center field IMO. I’ve seen some major league center fielders come over here in Korea including Heredia from my Braves, and Lee’s defense is one of the best among them.
    One big concern is that KBO pitching is a lot worse than MLB pitching, so KBO hitting stats tend to translate poorly coming to the majors. In the KBO, a 93mph fastball is a rare sighting, and the quality of breaking balls and overall command is a massive downgrade compared to the MLB. That’s why Lee decided to change his batting stance before this season, but it failed massively and he had to go back to his old stance. HSK hit 30 HRs in his last KBO season, and it took him some time to adjust to MLB pitching and put up decent numbers. Lee, despite showing brilliance in his at bats, never hit over 30 despite sharing the same ballpark with Kim. Will Lee’s batting stats translate well into the MLB, and will he be given the same opportunity that Kim got in the Padres if Lee goes into a slump, we will have to see. I think being an elite defender at shortstop bought Kim time to adjust to MLB pitching, and I’m not sure that would be the case for Lee being a center fielder.
    That being said, I truly hope Lee would succeed in the majors.

    • @ming-9
      @ming-9 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is because KBO has reduced the repulsion of the ball compared to when Kim hit 30 home runs.
      (KBO Avg OPS 2020: 0.758 -> 2022: 0.713)
      The important thing is that he had a higher batting level than Kim's career high during the KBO
      wrC+
      Kim: 145, 147 (2019,2020)
      Lee : 165, 182 (2021,2022)

    • @ciello___8307
      @ciello___8307 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah his velocity adjustment is the biggest thing. Kbo pitching is worse than npb so its a big jump. But lee is talented enough to adjust, if he is healthy

  • @minwhalee6630
    @minwhalee6630 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @Precomo97
    @Precomo97 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Great video! Very informative. I disagree, but would love to be wrong here. He doesn't seem to hit to the opposite field, which is necessary for someone lacking in power. That stems from a long swing that is easily exploitable in MLB. His defense will carry him long enough to get a fair chance at adapting, but I'm still not sure it happens to the degree that some hope. Side note: that Ohtani comparison is laughable and downplaying that definitely would strengthen your case; it'd show you're unbiased and reinforce your understanding of the game. Just a tidbit of constructive criticism.
    Again, I'd love to be wrong as it'd be amazing for the sport as a whole. I subbed and will be looking out for more vids!

    I am also a Yankees fan who is hoping Hal and Cashman seriously consider bringing in Lee. Every time I hear reports about the Yankees being linked to Kevin keirmaier, I’m like educating people about this guy because he’s such a younger, better option.
    I seriously think that Jung Hoo Lee could end up comparing favorable to some of the great contact hitters of the last 20-40 years. Even if you take the most pejorative stance toward teh KBO level of competition (I’ve heard some people compare it to AA), if he were putting up these numbers in AA at the ages he has been doing it, he’d be drawing comparisons to guys like Tony Gwynn, Ichiro, Derek Jeter, Wade Boggs, Louis Arraez…. I would be surprised if he doesnt become a guy with a better than .300 batting average and a better than .400 OBP in the Major leagues. He could be the Yankees leadoff hitter for the next 5-8 years.

    In 2023 Lee faced 109 pitches of 93 mph or greater and slashed .226/.273/.419 against them.
    The MLB average was .255/.341/.416 against 93+ mph in 2023.

    • @ming-9
      @ming-9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However, it recorded an average of 0.400 in 2021 and 0.462 in 2020. This is because KBO has fewer samples of fast balls over 93mph.
      On the wbc, Darvish and Imanaga's 95mph fastball made both hits.

    All this against pitchers that throw the ball, on average, 8 MPH slower than the Major leagues. He's basically a minor leaguer. MLB scouts compare the KBO to somewhere between A and AA baseball. Maybe he'll translate to the big leagues, but there's no guarantee. I expect him to be, at best, a .250 hitter with 10 HR per year pop. I hope I'm wrong.

    Great introduction of Lee Jung Hoo by @JoTalksYT. One point I disagree with him is that if Lee can't hit MLB pitching, his MLB career is over. The late Vin Scully, legendary announcer for the Dodgers, said teams don't pay outfielders for their gloves. OF, 1B, and maybe 3B are considered easier and less critical positions. That is where teams put their best hitters. Sometimes there are players like A-Rod and Johnny Bench who plays difficult and critical positions like C, SS, 2B and still hits well; but they are rare. That said, OF and 1B has to pick up the hitting. Being a gold glove alone at OF and 1B won't earn you a starting job.

      @@JoTalksYT don't get me wrong, I love Belli but Scott Boras scares me. Your window as a contender in baseball closes fast. So, a 10 year 250 contract with a dude who is 28 and shoulder problems is a problem on the back end. The only player that deserves 10 years is Otani bc he DHs and is a Ace when healthly. Cubs are known as big spenders but I honestly think you can sign 3 player for the price of Otani and 2 mayor 3 top tier for belli asking price. If they can get belli 7 years 160-180 price. That's ideal and leaves wiggle room

    I'm Korean and have watched a lot of Kiwoom's games because JHL is my favorite player. To be honest, JHL's defense and baserunning are subpar compared to MLB average player. For example, Padres' HSK had a 30-30 season in the KBO and was considered a 5-tool player, but I think JHL's only real edge is in making contact. And frankly, I don't trust KBO batting averages as a reliable predictor for MLB performance. Pitchers here typically throw mid-80s to low 90s, and I've seen HSK hit just slightly over .200 in his first year, so my trust in KBO batting stats has definitely waned. I think JHL could hit over .280 at his peak, but he'll probably end up with a WAR close to 2.5-ish. Remember Nori Aoki when he was with the Brewers? I'd say that's the best-case scenario we can expect from JHL. One more thing... He 'can' play at CF, but I think his best position is RF or LF. I don't think there are many teams those would like to see their corner outfielder hitting less than 10 HRs though

    Best international player even surpassing Ohtani? Makes me laugh like crazy. KBO is said to be an equivalent to 2A or close to 3A. Not sayings he can't be good but history tells us that only one or two hitters made it out of the KBO did aything in the bigs and it took KIm 3 years to be even a decent hitter. The chances are slim. No need to hype him up more than needed.
