"Ultra trail needs more definitions to it: Long hair, little smelly, not as serious, it's ok to walk, and generally it's a party all the way til the last person finishes" Quote of the Year by Jim The Dude Walmsley
“I just need to become one with the poles” yes Jim! yes! I don’t know that I have ever been more excited for an American male runner at UTMB, excited to watch your training through the summer in France. Best of luck!
I agree - moving to France and running parts of the trail over and over again is a great mental and physical training. I have completed the entire tour the Mt. Blanc and I bumped into many ultra runners who run sections of the trail while training for the UTMB in August. There are also many running events during that time that would be a great form of training - one day on the Swiss side there were actually 5 different running competitions. It is a true paradise for ultra runners. Good luck Jim!
I think we all hope that Jim pulls it off, but let's give credit where credit is due. Kilian, Francois and a few other Europeans are damn near unbeatable in that type of terrain. It's absolutely remarkable that they can and do make the podium at every UTMB they enter.
Wow! I was wondering why I've seen all his runs on Strava from France lately. Now I know he's living there. His vert gains in a shorter distance are definitely more than what they were in AZ. Jim is an amazing athlete!
It’s so cool how he sets his sights on one event and just digs and digs. We saw him do that with western states and now his name is so synonymous with that race, now he’s going for utmb! Go Jim!
It’s yours in 2022! - Jim! Written in the stars! - before your came into the World! Man, your focus on UTCT in 2021 made me see that side of you that when you put your heart to it - you have the steely mind to make it stick! - keep shovelling - dig to the end! I give this one to you friend! God’s blessings champ! 🙏🔥🙌🏾
Really nice video, thank you very much! I would love to see Jim Walmsley win this year but with Kilian Jornet back in town, this is going to be a very very tough one but so exciting to watch for us humble runners. Have fun training in France and enjoy the food/wine!
The digging analogy really resonates with me. Running in the high alps where I live is seldom ‘fun’ but is rewarding in the same way as a trench or large movement of earth, rock or dirt by hand. The tole on the body is similar and the determination to battle through arduous backbreaking slog is definitely required.
I am sure changing his training ground to the european mountains is gonna benefit him, but competition will be fierce. Exciting for this summer, another epic list of top level runners. Jim vs Kilian, wahoo!!
I'm a huge Jim fan and I don't exactly know why. He has a real X factor about him that you want to like. You want to see him do well. The opposite is true of some people where you secretly kind of don't like them, and you kind of get a touch a joy in seeing them not reach their goals.....but Jim. I just would love to see him take down UTMB. That would be oh so awesome!!
Satisfied is the key ! Being able to accept how far you have come and acknowledge who you are to able to achieve these remarkable goals that we set ourselves in Life That’s the reward. Nothing bets that 🙏 Fabulous !!!!
Amazing story and amazing dude Jim is. Wish him all the best and I'm so happy for him, because except for some races which were kinda difficult or disasters, in the rest Jim seems to have the time of his life, despite difficult moments which are inevitable.
That's a great film about Walmsley! Got me really through all the emotions, highs, and lows of living the life of a pro ultra runner. Outstanding work! I am hyped to go out now ;)
Actually, I think that a longer event on roads might be closer, like doing the 135 mile or 217.25 kilometer Badwater Marathon as heat is something Walmsley is practiced with for and during Western States and his Grand Canyon records or possibly the longer Spartathlon ultra running race a 245.3 kilometer or 152.4 mile running race name from Athens to the statue of King Leonidas in Sparta.
Yo Jim, how the F*CK do you find all these rad places to go running!? You're a big reason i got into the trail running scene, and I've just started to smash some local ultras! Hope to see ya on a start line some where :D

I would be in trouble with the long hair. LOL! But I got the other parts down! HA!!
Coming back to this video after Jim made history by becoming the first American man to win UTMB... I have no words

LETS GO JIM!!!!!! I'm excited to be there, dig in my first CCC, and watch you and Killian shred on the course.
It’s so cool how he sets his sights on one event and just digs and digs. We saw him do that with western states and now his name is so synonymous with that race, now he’s going for utmb! Go Jim!
Jim’s a great roll model, I always get pumped watching him do his thing. Thanks Jim. 👍🏼

Amazing story and amazing dude Jim is.
Wish him all the best and I'm so happy for him, because except for some races which were kinda difficult or disasters, in the rest Jim seems to have the time of his life, despite difficult moments which are inevitable.
Great video! Stoked to watch the next installments and looking forward to Jim killing it at UTMB this year 💪💪👏

loved this- when is part two out?
Shortly before UTMB in August.
Seems like he has a real shot of winning UTMB, but I wonder if Comrades might be a little closer to his highest skill set?
Actually, I think that a longer event on roads might be closer, like doing the 135 mile or 217.25 kilometer Badwater Marathon as heat is something Walmsley is practiced with for and during Western States and his Grand Canyon records or possibly the longer Spartathlon ultra running race a 245.3 kilometer or 152.4 mile running race name from Athens to the statue of King Leonidas in Sparta.
Now i want a 4Runner
