    Rendering quads isn't broken.

    To render the quad wireframe change this setting:
    Arnold renderer -> geometry, subdivision & hair -> Geometry Translation: always use quads (instead of automatic)

    Good to know this fix. Could have used that several months back. Ended up using Redshift as my first encounters with Arnold have been off putting.

    It's all about knowledge and thanks to let us know the cause of subdivision how interact with arnold wireframe map. There is also osl wireframe to enrich the wireframe rendering...

    I was having trouble with the subdivisions since I was using ambient occlusion and the arnold properties modifier wasn't working, so I discovered that if you go into the wireframe material in the material editor, you can choose to render them as polygons or patches rather than tris. hope this helps
