    Amazing, thank you for this free lesson! Also still can't wrap my head around how you make such a high quality 10 minute video without any cuts whatsoever

    This is a really good way to explain how to fix people's tone. I've always tried to help people, but I've never thought of a good way to explain what they're doing wrong. Very insightful, thank you!

    Weirdly enough, I also got a skin biopsy recently. Two to be exact. Not too worried either, but I had some spots on my back that needed to be checked out. Should find out within a week. Better safe than sorry.

    Great video man, now can you discuss going between notes and using the same vowels when compared to isolating the notes. For instance I'll play octave lip slurs on horn, pedal C to high C and it is more difficult than just playing the high C right away.

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will at some point, but it's pretty simple- you find that vowel position (and everything else, of course) for the high note, and just make sure it's all set up before you play

      @@AidanRitchie like many things in brass playing, simplicity is the best but that doesn't make it easy 😉

    Is that the leather specialties bass strap you're using? If it is, what size did you get? Im looking into buying one but im unsure of what size to buy. Great video!

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup!
      I'd probably buy a large if you use a wide slide tenor or bass. I THINK this is a large, and it's just the right size for my small ish hands. Plus, if it's too big, you just tighten it, no big deal.

    This is exactly right. Unfortunately I’m only learning that now through Doug Elliott. For years I had now high range because I was trying to do it all with my chops. Also there’s a book out there saying trombone players don’t need to use tongue level, should be like a hot potato in your mouth. That advise messed me up for so long. Good stuff, Aidan!

    My music teacher always told me to open up or widen my jaws.

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are usually a bit less than helpful- many people will just open up way too far in all ranges, which is a problem too.

    So I have this issue where I have an extremely difficult time with air attacks in the low range (around E2-B2) and it's especially prominent when playing something short or accented in that range, Would vowel shape be affecting an issue like this?

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I had the same problem forever, being really unsure of isolated low notes (and not being able to air attack them at all). I didn't really understand what my oral cavity should be like down there, so it was always wrong.

    Hey Why do you always play exercises ??? I would like to hear some music from you! Or why do you play the trombone ??? TH-cam sucks! ❤️❤️❤️

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anxiety! I usually want to play something longer and more musical for the intro, but I'll mess it up 5 or 6 times and just play something simple.

      @@AidanRitchie My parents and my uncle who does the sound equipment at my local church have claimed that they cannot hear me and I am only audible to them when playing louder on my bass trb. When i play in the lower register with the triggers they hear me partially. The problem is I play in the back in the congregation where the choir box is and I have no microphone to amplify my sound. So when i play whenever the other musicians are amped up and blaring at high volume, I can barely notice myself. But when everyone plays softly I can play low, not a problem and hear myself. My dad thinks I should play higher and not the opposite and I’m playing all over the place. How should I explain to him that it’s not that simple and the bass is designed to play low like a bass or baritone singer. I tried to tell him that it’s quite difficult to play high and at full capacity where tenor horns can play at that range with no challenge at all. It is as if he expects me to sound like the greats like trombone shorty, Wycliffe Gordon, Joe Alessi and the list goes on. It is a different animal. Lol
