      He's a great rider and did really well but I wouldn't call a win by just a few seconds a dominating performance personally

      @@localzeros he won four stages...that was my dominant reference. With most of the REAL Jumbo Visma guys not even there. 🤭

      It would have been a lot more time had Hayter’s teammate not crashed 700m from finish line on stage 5. Had the peloton not been stopped WVA would have crushed another bunch sprint, winning and adding more time to his lead.

      I wonder if Cavendish wasn't fully fit, or if the hills wore him out, because he was never outi-sprinted like that in the Tour -- even Greipel had the edge on him here.

      Yeah Cav needs to rest and go again next year. It’s been a great step to recovery this year. Hope the EB doesn’t return and he can beat the record next year.

      @@spaketticarbonada9651 Or that cav just isn't near the level of WvA. Don't forget that he also beat cav on the champs elesys, a weak sprinting field at the tour made him look a lot stronger.

    I thought Cav was finally going to get his stage win, but it seemed he just didn't have the gas. Congrats to Wout though! Fantastic victory. And great to see such good sized crowds at this race.

    The final section of the Cairn 'O Mount climb( fae the South) is a killer, but the descent is just awesome.

    Side note: Ned Boulting is emphatically far and away the best English language commentator, with brass knobs on - times a million! David Millar is a great foil to him

    Mvp used to be tiny bit better than wva.
    But wva stayed w his program. Worked and trained. Now they are equal it seems, and perhaps wva better
    Alaphillipe often cheats in sprints. Here when peeling off he had a chance to impede wva. And Alaphillipe did not do so. Way to go, for once, Alaphillipe
    Cavendish not close in speed. It is beginning to look like C great tour was not based much on talent but on great team support and placement of C, and lack of good sprinter competition. W sprinters there 2022, C may have no more tour stage wins That appears most likely scenario

    Man Wout is just a superb all round boss. He can climb, tt, sprint, cx. Poor cavendish just missing out a few times. But the unlucky award goes to Ethan Hayter

    Iv'e cycled/walked up the Cairn O Mount many a time, i never once made it to the top without having to walk. It is brutal & these guys made it look flat, lol.

    Cav was born for the Tour de France which is his natural environment, his natural habitat..:)
    He's still got at least 3 more TdF's in his legs, so he should be able to get at least one more stage win in his career to beat Merckx and become the greatest TdF stage winner of all time..:)

    Hayter let down massively by IGD, it was their's too loose. Why at 3km to go didn't they lead out with a full train at a huge pace closing down the sprint... not one of their riders put themselves to the sword for Hayter in this stage. Painful to watch.

      it is the noise of cycling. You just can't remoove this noise without removing the atmosphere of a race.

      I've heard in some races they use drones to film but they still add the helicopter noise for the atmosphere

    Alaphilippe’s lead out was a bit poor, seemed to hold Cav up more than anything. Great race though and well don Wout.
