  • My 1994 Bonneville SSEi was having issues with the temperature control. I narrowed it down to the blend door actuator. This trick let's you move the blend door to the desired position, but doesn't let you change it out for a new part. I'll change it out eventually..

I see that this is the one that controls whether hot air or cold air comes out of your vents, but where is the one located that controls which vents the air comes out of?

Damn! I sold my 1998 SSEi with low miles because this blend door actuator repair was going to cost $1000. I let the car go cheap. If I had only know about this easy fix. I t was summer in the desert & I was being cooked to death!

Incredibly helpful! The issue on my ‘96 Bonneville was that only heat was blowing, all the time, and only out of the defrost and heater vents. After watching your video, I was at least able to move the actuator door to where only cool air blows. Even the air conditioner now blows inside, just not through the main vents. Question: have you tried getting at the actuator to replace it? Also, any idea how to direct the airflow to the dash vents? Thanks again for the video!

Glad someone was able to benefit from this info. And no I haven't tried replacing the actuator, seems like it's buried in there and I'm not particularly interested in taking the dash apart.
And with this actuator issue, it actually blows cold air through my main vents. So if you're having issue with that, you might have a secondary issue.

Chris Bridgette Thanks. Yeah, I definitely do have a secondary issue. Most likely a vacuum hose, But also not willing to rip the dash apart. Thanks again for the help.

Someone all ready said it...But do try WD 40,... PB Blaster.. Spray first each direction, let it sit a minute, then try heat to cold a few times, if that does not work better, then spray each way again as it is moving. light spray !

Wonder if putting a few drops of oil or a spritz of WD40 where the actuator arm goes into the enclosure would solve the sticking problem?

Hi William, I might try that. If that doesn't work, I suspect the blend door actuator is getting tired

I have a 99, my issue is that only my floor vents & defrost work, nothing comes out of the dash vents

Did you ever figure out the solution?

Hi! I have a 98 bonneville that is blowing cold air instead of heat..I replaced the thermostat, thinking that was the issue. But the car still blows cold air instead of heat. Would this fix possibly help the car get heat?

It is not easy to see, try to use a low power flash light and push the seat back as far as it can go to give you a good working space.

Okay I have the electronic climate control and I don't see the rod in there.
