I loved Sharpe, the books and the series.
I really love it, Major Richard Sharpe, tells Captain Fredrickson about “ luck “ he, was lucky to have such beautiful women who he falls in love with. Theresa Moreno, and Later Madam Lucille Lassan, both the very epitome of of Spanish and French Womenhood . The lucky bastard!!!! I fell for both of them. Ah unrequited love, the story of my life.

Yeah, Over the Hills.... is fantastic, but this one just gets me. It is so sad, so heartfelt, and shows the sadness of common people getting caught up in horrible things. War is such a waste, but what is one to do in the face of aggression and invasion of the heartland?
AND you can just feel it; bad times are coming again.
A lovely, caring story amidst the dreadful Napoleonic War which thankfully we helped stop. Wonderfully sung.

The British didn't take a French eagle at the Battle of Talavera. I'm assuming this song is about Sharpe.
Of course it is. Bernard Cornwall acknowledges that the first eagle wasn't taken at Talavera, apologises to the ghost of the man who took it, and pleads artistic license.
Cushla Geary He also added later on the first two people who did at the Battle of Barrosa
It was Sergeant Patrick Masterson who took the eagle at talavera
What are you on about it was the 44th (Essex) of foot who took the eagle
