Adjustability is what made me go from drooling in front of my monitor watching historical shows to looking up information about historical clothes and sewing my own.

It is wise not to forget what our ancestors knew for they were very careful about waste.

I made a full length one and it needed almost 3,5 meters of fabric. Also bound my hem with bias tape because I'm too lazy to fold and iron 3m of hem 😂. And whip stitched the back of the bias tape. The wide band on the front looks so good but I recommend using some stabilizer for the bit that's attached to the skirt for stability so it stays flat. Also twill tape works great for tying the back panel. Now I need to find a sheet to make a knee length version.

@@thinkingbout look at 18th cent pockets. They tie around the waist like a utility belt.

I made this! It was so easy and it worked. I could do with some help on making the pockets though, I feel I did a decent fudge but a better method for my next one would be appreciated❤

When I cut medieal clothes I have inches left. I knew you'd show one of these skirts.

Huh, I've never noticed you don't leave gaps in your editing. Having said that, I usually watch things on x2 speed because my brain works at x2 speed.
Anyway, I think you're great, and thank you for confirming to me that the only way I'd post on TH-cam is to do a specifically requested tutorial.

Also, hopefully see you at Worldcon. As a plug one of my friends is doing a talk on suffragettes, and they are non- binary so I can promise it will not be weird and terf-y (I know internalised transphobia is a thing, but it's not their thing)

I once jokingly put 2 aprons together to make a skirt. A friend said, “that’s a amazing idea. Putting a draw string on a skirt.” I told her, “this isn’t new. It’s been around since the 1700s.” I’m about to buy 2 new aprons and see them together to make a cute skirt now

This is great! I used to make replica 1812 garb, and that’s very similar to the petticoats that I made (I just pulled one twill tape length through both front and back and tied off at one side. I’d tie my separate pocket on the other side so I wouldn’t inadvertently untie a petticoat.
But I would love to see how you add a pocket, please?

I know it's so easy, anyone can do it, but I have so many hurdles for non-sewers! How do you choose a fabric? How do you hand sew? Gosh!
