I still don’t understand why in Sonic Mania there’s a past music in Metallic Madness Present. Did SEGA really forget to make the same transition as in Stardust Speedway?

Oh, the way I interpret it is that act 1 is going through an in construction part of metallic madness, whereas act 2 is in a part of the base that has already been fully constructed. As such, you can see what the past was for the main base and also recognise that this evil base isn’t even close to be finished yet.
