I love your diagnostic videos. It’s better than a TV mystery. I use two parts trays - one for small parts and one for large parts. They are magnetic but that’s not necessarily a good idea.. Great job of resurrecting this Okuma! Today I worked on the strangest and most difficult spinning reels I’ve ever serviced. It is a Berkley Castamatic. There are a lot of springs in this reel. It was totally seized when I got it and it was new in the box. Turned out to be solidified very hard old grease. The reel casts by lifting a lever mounted on the top of the housing right behind the rotor. This lever pulls the spool completely back into the cup of the rotor and opens the bail halfway. You release that lever and the spool pops up and line comes out. It is just plain weird and the devil to work on. I’m proud to say the reel is totally working as good as new now and I plan to try casting with it tomorrow. The bearings in the reel were in great shape. The reel was grinding when I first tried tried it after 3 hours of work. I saw I had not put a thick washer back on the spindle of the main gear for the handle. When I put it back on the reel it turned very smoothly with no noise. Both the housing and the side plate have springs so it took four tries to get the reel back together correctly. It was a reel balancing act! I am thrilled with this strange reel now but I was very concerned when I first got it. I would have had a tough time without the schematic so thanks again Dennis!
Hi Dennis, Looks like the main gear shaft and dried grease were the culprits ! If and when shafts are difficult to remove, I tend to repolish the shaft with Flitz polish and then relube, similar to your steel wooling. Pinion gear seemed be a bit squirrely w ridgeing too. Reel nice save... Continued Best Wishes, Cons
Wait til you hear this. The fellow picked up the reel and left me with another Titus. This one is the TI50 and it is a reel in a bag in a box project that he says is missing parts. Stay tuned! Dennis
I actually enjoy fixing or troubleshooting unfamiliar reels. Just adds to experience in repairing adventures. Thanks Dennis!
Me too. Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis

Thank you
I just bought a
Akuma Titus TS 50 II speed reel. What size fish can I catch on that. Says it can hold 275’ 80lb line. Thank you
Yes - you can catch BIG fish. Yellow tail tuna come to mind. Enjoy
