  • Adult Education at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis on May 12, 2024, continued the series on the "Older Testament: The Good, the Bad, and the Uncanny" for the 2023-24 program year, exploring Jonah.
The big fish that swallows a reluctant prophet usually attracts the most attention, but Jonah’s story is really about a God whose patience and mercy are relentless. This book presents itself to us as a fable, but that doesn’t mean its subject matter is “kids’ stuff.” If we really believe, as Jonah does, in a God who is “abounding in steadfast love,” what will that mean for how we view the people who are most difficult to love? We begin by exploring what it means for Jonah and for the dreaded Assyrians.
